  1. I noticed last time as well. Last year we used both Space Cadet's and a more regular one by giving each rank one number more. The one of Space Cadet had less ties, but still has them. Maybe last year I think of another way. A friend of mine once tried to make one without ties. He managed by making a very complicating rating system. Like sometimes people vote for a song because they like the album so much but can't really choose the favorite song. To account for that he let multiple songs that were from the same album or same artist in the list get additional points (though very few compared to a higher rank). But a tiny difference like that already made the list have way less ties. I don't know if that's an idea for a next year. Sure thing. btw, thanks for making the list/count down!
  2. in the previous thread where the lists were placed there was this agreement upon 25 songs. I had 50 as well, but shortened my list to 25 songs. :( How did you make the countdown? Did you use Space Cadet's rating system? I am sorry, I don't understand the part of the songs that no one voted for but you post before the countdown. They were HUGE where? On the internet/radio? If no one voted for them - including yourself - do they matter then in a countdown of our choice? Or are you planning on comparing our list later on with the metascore list (if something like that also exist for 2012 songs) and see how much we differ? Why do some songs in the list have the youtube or soundcloud thing attached to it and some not? Is it your personal favorites or just songs you liked to highlight for another reason? (because I Gamda Style in it and don't really believe that would be a favorite of yours, hahaha!) btw, yaj for countdown!

I am getting really confused now. How come that in one source they say they used the mother's mtDNA and in another they say they used the sister's mtDNA? And why does one source say they use mtDNA of a guy that is a direct descendant and another source says it's from two women? Wait, apparently they used the sister's family tree to find a direct descendant. Then they found those women. Because this one woman died, they asked her son for a mtDNA sample to match this with the mtDNA of the skeleton. I should stop reading into this .... okay, they base their mtDNA 'evidence' conclusion on the fact that the mtDNA is haplotype 'J'. No shit, 12% of the people in Europe have that haplotype ... How much of an evidence is that?

That male/female skeleton thing was indeed weird. But I just read that this happens a lot when they investigate old skeletons. I guess programs like Bones make it look as if it is that easy to determine the sex from the shape of the skeleton, but it is not. At least I got from an article about sex determination of skeletons ... or maybe King Richard had Klinefelter syndrome :laugh3: that would at least explain female-like properties of the skeleton. That poor guy, it would be sad if he really had Klinefelter and scoliosis. Argh, I just wrote a whole piece on how unlikely it was to be so sure about a DNA match when there have been so many generations, etc. But then I read they used mitochondrial DNA of his sister and matched it with that of direct decendants in the maternal line. That's a powerful tool, because mitochondrial DNA is passed on directly from the mother which means that Richard had the same mitochondrial DNA as his sister and her daughters and their daughters too, etc, except for a bunch of mutations along the way. But then my next problem is how they were able to isolate mitochondrial DNA from the skeleton, but still make a fuss about the feminin shape of the skeleton. It's really not that hard to do a DNA test to show that it's a male. Or did they manage to isolate mitochondrial DNA, but not nuclear DNA? I want this to be published in a peer-review article, before that it's not evidence that this is Richard.
  6. She is Chris Martin! Anyway, are you still in a love-hate relationship with the Yossarian?
  7. ^ Great!
  8. Wow did you just call him an asshole? That's not very nice :( To be honest, the quote I quoted was to illustrate how obnoxious Billie Joe was at that moment - whether he was under influence or not. And that whole angry speech of him makes it look like he does have a huge ego. E.g. Is Bieber any less than him? You can feel bad about people having to go to re-hab, but in the end it was their own decision to start taking those drugs and amounts of alcohol, so I don't really care about how tough rehab is :S "A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom" -Bob Dylan

  10. Me too! Glad Paula found out in time! And Crests, do join!
  11. ^ Nah, not really, for it's people's own responsibility to wear earplugs or not during concerts. I can imagine people simply don't wear them because they don't know the loud music can cause tinitus. Actions like this can lead to awareness so that people know to wear earplugs next time if they want to prevent hearing loss. Sidenote: "and we see further developments in treating the condition” I rather have them focussing on preventing the condition than treating it. uuuugh
  12. ^ Me too. GOD UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH! The money thing ... just ... omg Thanks Linus
  13. I also don't get that. and this information might be known to you, but not the reader. We are just not getting it when a conversation gets awkward like that. Also, but that's just me, I don't believe you sat down and decided to create this bi-polar character. It sounds more like an afterwards-made-up excuse to deal with the criticism.

So what now? What about learning to write proper English :S I didn't want to start about it - people's writing doesn't have to be perfect - but then I noticed that you are from the UK ..... uhhhh, "no there" where one means "know they're" is pretty bad. It makes it unnecessary difficult to understand the post.
  15. ^ What about them having posted here a lot when they were still into Coldplay? But what was your point again? 'Lol.' ? I don't get it.
  16. I guess it's time for it. Don't expect the others to get reviewed :( Sorry Tammi, hopefully your next partner will be more considerate.
  17. Uuuuuuhg, no, it even prettier than the thing I was thinking of
  18. Yusss! Great work! (btw, you're not the eldest writer in the book, by far ;) ) Poky, you're ready for Scrappy after Fran is done with it? :D
  19. Ah yes, that's maybe where I was getting at. It is not seeing so many rude people in the story, it is perhaps the level of rudeness. It doesn't seem realistic. - About the name asking thing, well, I have too many people asking mine. But then I am the jerk by telling them my name and then trying to say something to make them stop talking to me. Trying, because usually it doesn't even work. YOU MEN  Schredder, does this mean that you've been in a situation like this? (not the shoelace situation obviously) Trying to help a stranger and then having him say dumbass/teenage queen to you? :(
  20. My boyfriend moves to a new place, his apartment is number 42 :wideeyed:
  21. Why are all these people such a jerks? Like this Mike says out of the blue "dumbass" to a worried person and then saying "No one asked, kid" when Rezzy says something. Doesn't seem like a nice person at all. But I remember that from the Haloween story as well. Why is that? Is that to 'spice up' the story or is that how you perceive people in general?

  23. ^ Ahahahha! Thank you for adding that last bit in your signature.

I got that idea as well. Too bad, I really like ABBA's 'Lay All Your Love on Me' :( (reference to another thread)
