It's not that I don't like close-ups in general, it's just the way that it was done here. If you compare it to the previous FTB performance, it's so different. I mean, in one shot in the Staircase video all you see is hair flapping to and fro in the light. I don't wanna see that. The lighting throughout just doesn't seem, I don't know, "balanced". In many spots the lighting seems way too harsh. The first FTB performance was much more visually appealing in my opinion. Of course, the visual part isn't really what matters anyway.

Wow, I'm a bit surprised with the instant adoration of Staircase. It's good, but I'm not giving in and putting it in my top 3 (yet). Here's my current list... I think the new song is okay. Nothing spectacular, not like they reinvented the wheel and slapped some kick-ass rims on it while they were at it, or anything like that. It might grow on me though. Mmmm, that does sound a bit like it at the beginning. *prepares package*

I took a quick peek at the new FTB video during my break at work, although I'm still not able to listen to it yet (will have to do that later at home). My comments on the visual aspect: I don't like the camera work/angles. I'm hoping the rest will be different, but I highly doubt it will be. The lighting is annoying. I agree with what many of you have already said... Thomboy needs to cut his hair. And maybe he can take Ed with him. Most guys look better with shorter hair (no matter how cool they think they are being with longer hair), and that includes those two. Thom --> between HTTT/early IR era, Ed --> IR era. Please and thank you.

The first few times I listened to it I thought "well geez, this is great but they could have done so much more with the vocals". I love it now, but first impressions are usually the best representation. I know I listed it as my favorite on my YouTube playlist, but really it's not (second favorite at the time).

I doubt it's where techno was born (but maybe it is), but it is an extremely music-rich area regardless, and electronic music is big (hence the festival last month), and there are oodles of DJs from here that would probably make him all !#$&_%#(_#$*(&@#&()(%#_%$+, so I think it's only right for them to swing by. Of course I'm also being biased for selfish reasons.

With Thom being in love with all these artists [originally] from Detroit (Fly Lo, and J Dilla according to Saturday's office chart), he should put his money where his mouth is and they should come to Detroit on their next tour. It's my understanding that they've avoided us since the 90s (apparently getting robbed or whatever put a bad taste in their mouth).

Dammit I'm at work so I can't listen to it right now! I thought they weren't going to be doing FTB until July 1st? Or is that just when it is supposed to air on the tele?

I'd say the majority of the time it doesn't work. And I don't think being casual "facebook friends" really counts. In fairness though, in respect to most high school friends (I'm talking regular friends here), over time you gradually separate from almost everyone you thought you would never gradually separate from, and don't talk to them either. So it's nothing to feel bad about if you don't really talk to someone you broke up with.
