  10. Yesterday while I was out, I checked the grocery store and they were all wiped out of Hostess goods (with the exception of the holiday fruitcake, nobody likes that brick that barely qualifies as food). Today while I was out getting milk at a different grocery store, I checked there also... entire Hostess section is wiped out there too. I'm guessing the only place to possibly find these items now are vending machines. I'll check the machine at work tomorrow...
  11. I don't know who this infamous Albie is either. :| Does that qualify me as a noob as far as this thread is concerned?

  17. Hostess, the maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, is going out of business IRVING, Texas (AP) - Hostess, the maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, is going out of business, closing plants, laying off its 18,500 workers and putting its brands up for sale. The Irving, Texas, company said a nationwide worker strike crippled its ability to make and deliver its products. Its brands also include Ding Dongs, Ho Ho's and Dolly Madison. Hostess had warned employees that it would file a motion in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to unwind its business and sell assets if plant operations didn't return to normal levels by Thursday evening. The privately held company filed for Chapter 11 protection in January, its second trip through bankruptcy court in less than a decade. "Many people have worked incredibly long and hard to keep this from happening, but now Hostess Brands has no other alternative than to begin the process of winding down and preparing for the sale of our iconic brands," CEO Gregory F. Rayburn said in a letter to employees posted on the company website. He added that all employees will eventually lose their jobs, "some sooner than others." Thousands of members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union went on strike last week after rejecting in September a contract offer that cut wages and benefits. Hostess had already reached a contract agreement with its largest union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Hostess has said that production at about a dozen of the company's 33 plants has been seriously affected by the strike. Three plants were closed earlier this week. The company, founded in 1930, was fighting battles beyond labor costs. Competition is increasing in the snack space and Americans are increasingly conscious about healthy eating. Hostess also makes Dolly Madison, Drake's and Nature's Pride snacks. http://www.wxyz.com/dpp/news/hostess-the-maker-of-twinkies-and-wonder-bread-is-going-out-of-business#ixzz2CPo6S400

  19. Gulf Oil Rig Explodes Off Louisiana's Coast AP/The Huffington Post | Posted: 11/16/2012 12:48 pm EST Updated: 11/16/2012 1:05 pm EST An oil rig exploded off the coast of Louisiana on Friday morning. The oil-gas production platform, located south of Grand Isle, is owned by Black Elk Energy. A spokesman for the company confirmed to KHOU.com that the rig fire left two workers dead and sent four to a hospital. Two more are currently missing. The spokesman did not know if any oil had spilled. Addressing the oil rig fire, the Coast Guard told WWLTV that the fire may have started if some oil was let loose when workers were cutting a pipe. Associated Press story on the oil rig explosion continues below: Coast Guard spokesman Drake Foret said the fire was out in the meantime. Four people were taken to West Jefferson Medical Center near New Orleans and Coast Guard aircraft and boats were searching for two missing people. The rig, a production platform owned by Black Elk Energy, is about 25 miles southeast of Grand Isle, La. The platform is for oil production from an established well, unlike the Deepwater Horizon rig, which was drilling an exploratory well for oil giant BP in mile-deep water when it blew up and triggered a massive oil spill in 2010. That site is well to the east of Friday's explosion. Local officials said the Coast Guard has told them there was no pollution at the site. Plaquemines Parish spokeswoman Caitlin Campbell said the Coast Guard reported that the platform was intact and suffered no structural damage. Coast Guard Capt. Peter Gautier told WWL TV the platform was not producing oil at the time and no environmental threat was anticipated. Gautier said it was believed that maintenance workers were cutting a pipe and some oil may have gotten loose, causing the fire. A federal official in Washington said a team of environmental enforcement inspectors was flying to the scene. David Smith, a spokesman for the Interior Department's Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, said the team was dispatched from a Gulf Coast base by helicopter soon after the Coast Guard was notified of the emergency. Smith said the team would scan for any evidence of oil spilling and investigate the cause of the explosion. A spokesman for Black Elk Energy could not immediately be reached for comment. Black Elk is an independent oil and gas company headquartered in Houston, Texas. The company's website says it holds interests in properties in Texas and Louisiana waters, including 854 wells on 155 platforms. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/16/gulf-oil-rig-explodes-louisiana_n_2145441.html
