Do you mean you want to like, lower the strings? I did that a few days ago and i don't think you can screw your bass messing with the pickups. I THINK.

..As usual, i turned on my stereo and i was going to play along to the is this it album but then... whenever i played the E string, this weird sound came out of my amp. it sounded like a crazy distortion, but it was insanely high. I turned off my amp, tuned my bass using an electric tuner (just to make sure that everything was okay with my bass) and turned on my amp again, but the weird sound kept coming out whenever i played the E string... and all the other strings were sounding as good as before, so i kind of thought there was something wrong with my bass, so i tried to plug it in my friend's amp and it worked just fine. So hey, i'm guessing there's something wrong with my amp? I've been using it for about 3 months and it always worked great. hmm
