I read it! :awesome: Congratulations!!!!- Attention All Teachers or Wannabe Teachers
With shy kids, it really depends on the kid and how well you know him/ her. Some are just waiting for you to address them directly since they feel they want to participate but they find it difficult to start. So you may ask them what they think instead of just waiting for them to put up their hand and they will talk that way, but not everybody is like that and, as Raphaele said, it may take a long time. What I found useful, for example with discussing certain topics is dividing the class into groups and ask them to discuss the topic among the people in the group and you go monitoring each group. You will find that many shy kids who don't feel comfortable talking in front of the whole class are able to express themselves with less difficulty within a smaller group :) And remember, if one of the shy kids is putting up their hand or you see they want to say something but some other kid interrupts them, do not let that opportunity go, please. If they had the courage to speak willingly and they are ignored, they may feel even more insecure in the future. As regards games, they are an excellent way to keep them interested since that's basically how a child relates to the world, by playing. However, in the classroom they should be measured. If the games keeps on and on, it may diverge from the goal it had and they will eventually lose interest in it( children have a short attention span) so don't hesitate in finishing it. They may feel you're ruining the fun, but if you see a large group is no longer involved it's better to move on to another thing.- Attention All Teachers or Wannabe Teachers
Hi! I don't know what subject you will be teaching, so I can help you with some general things like: -use a lot of visual elements (posters, flashcards, even real objects) - If it's a language class or literature class, you may want to take advantage of their playful nature by asking them to perform something or act something out for the class, generally they love it and it's a good way of getting the clowns of the class involved. -You may want to change the sitting arrangement according to the task they wll be carrying out. It's not necessary that they look at the board at all times. Sometimes semi-circles work best and everyone's looking at each other. - You can make some rules with them about what kind of behaviour is accepted in the classroom and what isn't. You can make this the first day and let them take part in creating the agreement. It has to be something created by you and the kids, like a pact, and then you can all write your names to seal it. They tend to respect it if they took part of the decision. I hope you find them useful.- Post piccies of the sexy Mr Berryman..
He looks so focused! You could hear him really well today! His bass playing cannot be fully appreciated on the studio version but it was really nice today! I wish he had said something :D- The Buckland Religion~Official Thread
