[2016-06-04] Etihad Arena, Manchester, UK
Okay... now it's slightly worse. Also, can anyone hear an organ in the mix on The Scientist? Not heard that before.

Did you listen to the Mexico fm broadcast? This makes that one sound like soundboard quality.

The radio broadcast sounds pretty good to me.

And I thought 30 quid was a lot on the last tour. Beyond extortionate.

Coldplay World Tour 2016 - 2017 Discussion
This is true. I've listened to many bootlegs from the last few years and have noticed this, time after time.

You don't sound particularly negative, just very honest and blunt, which is your right ofc. I think your take on the state of the current tour is really interesting, if a bit disappointing. As far as arrangements go, I think it's obvious that Birds should be played on the B-stage to make room for another song we all desperately want to hear, either that or move a fan favourite into its opening quarter slot. I'm not seeing them until Wembley, but I think you're dead right about the hits overload in the latter half of the set. They should either spread them out (moving CB to the beginning like they did on the last tour would be good imho) or just drop some of them altogether, in my view. Overall it sounds to me as though you have legit complaints / reservations, for sure. In short, I agree. We're used to seeing a lot more experimentation at this stage, which is sadly missing. They need to stop resting on their laurels and get their act together.

Because when you've been timing every set you've ever played for the last decade like clockwork, flexibility / spontaneity isn't really possible (despite this being the main function of a live band). :smoking:

Exactly, it was a different, smaller piano. Nothing to do with the main / grand piano.

I say stuff the acoustic requests. We want the real deal! I counted 15 singles (out of 23 songs) in their setlist the other day. Enough of the fanfare, more rarities! EDIT: Also, about Politik. My worry these days is that there is very little balance between light and shade. I'm all for upbeat, jubilant songs, but having an abundance of light is neither doing the band justice or telling the entire story.

And to think it took a dodgy piano for them to crack out one of their best tunes. The mind does wonder...

It's not available for me (in the UK). Anyway we can extract it?

[2016-05-28 & 29] Coldplay at BBCR1 Weekend, Exeter, UK
Ha, hi there :) Nice to know I'm not the only one! That's true though. I can't believe they haven't done a tour stop here since 2008. That's right, they did indeed record most of AROBTTH there, back in 01/02 (which is now a venue in and of itself these days). I did see an interview recently where Chris mentioned how important a place Liverpool was for the band, so who knows. They're doing the stadiums this summer, who's to say they won't do an arena run in the Autumn or even next year? (Fingers crossed!)

Or Liverpool... (where I am). As he said back in 08, location-wise, playing in L'pool is the closest place he has to a homecoming gig (plus it also happens to be a very significant place for the band historically).

This is interesting.
I often think about the days "when Chris had a chip on his shoulder". I know that he feels it created a lot tension within himself and made him unable to appreciate both himself and the band, but I think that's what (for the most part) imbibed the songs with this fragile, human insecurity that so many fans were able to relate to. Don't get me wrong, I can see how flawed / monochrome X&Y was (and I'm by no means an Oldplayer) now compared to what came after, but I feel that aspect has been lost. And that's just the emotional / psychological tone of the songs. Don't get me started on the politic(k)s, or lack thereof.

This is interesting.
Sadly, I've often thought much the same thing these last few years, my friend. To paint the last decade in a more satirical light, it's almost as though VLV was the band showing the critics that they were still relevant by doing a running jump, before bounding through a wheel of fire on MX and then landing softly (albeit unexpectedly) on GS. AHFOD was always going to be the luck of the draw, only, instead of revisiting their roots as an actual band and wearing all of their colours on their sleaves (equally) they decided to jump out of a hole in the stage dressed as clowns...(or was it monkeys?)
-
This is interesting.
And to think that this is even a thing we're discussing. What happened to the days when we'd be impressed with Coldplay's musicianship and in awe of their live show, I do wonder.
-
This is interesting.
Tbh, as much as I love the song, I wouldn't mind them substituting it for something else we hardly ever hear. This just makes me want that even more.

So have people actually received their tickets for this show then? I bought mine from SeeTickets and they still haven't been posted.

See, now that's where you're mistaken. I personally think such favoritism is narrow-minded, so that's not where I'm coming from. I've been listening to Coldplay for over a decade yet some of my favourite ever songs can be found on AHFOD, in fact. Fans pay a lot of money for tickets, so I think they're entitled to want to see the band play quality shows that surpass previous tours rather than a showy orchestration of hits.
