  1. U2 is monotonous but Coldplay isn't? Sorry dude, can't agree with you here. I think U2's catalog is far more diverse than Coldplay's, though I love both bands. Are you implying that With or Without You is a bad song? Sure, lesser-knowns like The Fly and Until the End of the World are brilliant (though The Fly was a moderate hit), but so are New Year's Day, Pride, One, Mysterious Ways and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. U2 have always been a single band; most of their album-only cuts aren't exactly brilliant, especially recently (though those on the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are obvious exceptions). I'd take Beautiful Day and Vertigo over pretty much any of the other cringe-worthy songs on their respective albums. Linkin Park pretty much sucks.
  2. From another thread I posted in. I think it makes sense with the concept of the album...fighting against the governnment. I could explain each line in more detail, and how they back up my interpretation, but I'm too lazy, so unless someone cares enough to ask, I won't.
  3. Thank ya' kindly. :)
  4. Exactly. Once again, I totally understand and respect those who want to wait.
  5. Had no idea how popular this would get when I posted it. :D Thanks everyone!
  6. Haha I totally jumped when I logged on and saw this. Wow...what an honor. Congratulations Pai and Twisted Mind...Thanks so much everyone!
  7. I don't care when I hear the new stuff. First listens very rarely stick out to me anyway. There have been a few exceptions, but I didn't even like most of my favorites until I had listened to them quite a few times (Funeral, Kid A, Loveless, Daydream Nation, Agaetis Byrjun). It's how the records age that count. I can understand the excitement of popping in a CD for the first listen and being exposed to a set of entirely new songs, but I don't think it really matters now being that I've already heard at least half of the songs anyway. So I'll be listening to the stream/leak.
  8. John Mayer? No. Absolutely not. Everything else is great though.
  9. They're in my top three. Hoppipolla is the international athem. Ny batteri and Untitled 8 are some of my other favorites.
  10. Um...no. Her music sounds pretty much like all the other pop on the radio. It's her vision and instrumental talent that I admire. Mildly interesting lyrics, as well.
  11. She is undeniably a talented musician, but I just don't see what's so original about her musical style. Maybe I'm just ignorant.
  12. Famous Old Painters is kind of boring. There's just nothing even remotely interesting or original about it.
  13. Technically speaking, so is Justin Bieber. :laugh3: I do respect Lady Gaga though. Can't say the same for Biebs, I'm afraid.
  14. Lady Gaga's music is very, very unoriginal. She's all image, no substance.
  15. Off topic: Elton John is fantastic. Saw him live February...what a performer! ^ Wish that emoticon had bigger, more flamboyant shades. :laugh3:
  16. Hmm...the thing is, U2 only sounds stereotypical now because of all the bands that tried to follow in their footsteps. Listening to them in the context of the 80's...there was really nobody else like them. They basically invented the huge, stadium rock sound. It's not them that's stereotypical, but all the bands that they accidentally created simply by existing.
  17. I'm not a huge fan of recent U2 either, but I think that The Joshua Tree alone is better than all of Muse's work combined. And Muse's worst work is their Queen inspired stuff. United States of Eurasia? Seriously? To each his own, I suppose... You don't like Achtung Baby?
  18. I liked Radiohead back when they were still On a Friday. /sarcasm
  19. Radiohead are, by definition, an indie band. They are currently on an independent label. Obscure? Not so much. They're a well-known, well-respected pop band, albiet a pop band with avant-garde sensibilities.
  20. Yeah, I know what you mean. I do know people who hate U2 with a passion, though. "Edge plays the effects pedal, not guitar," "Bono is an a**hole," etc. Similar to the general dislike of Chris Martin, actually. I wish everyone I knew was familiar with Radiohead (maybe when I get to college where people listen to something other than Usher and LMFAO). Music conversations would be so much more fun. By the way, Radiohead technically ARE indie now (on an independent label), whereas they weren't before, but I do understand what you're getting at. :laugh3: True. I'm in the U.S, it seems that everyone here has heard of Muse whereas Radiohead is still a giant, Creep-shaped question mark. Twilight seems to have helped Muse along. That's entirely up to Coldplay. Their potential status as legends all depends on whether they keep on making para-paradises and wa-wa-waterfalls.
  21. 1. I never said that Radiohead weren't mainstream, only that they were less mainstream than Muse. That may not have been true ten years ago, but it is now. 2. Everyone you know owns a Radiohead record? You must not know very many people. Hardly anyone I know has even heard of them (though they recognize Creep most of the time). I realize that that sounds vaguely hipster of me...but I'm merely stating fact. I wish more people DID know and listen to them. 3. I never said I was superior to you because I like Radiohead better than Coldplay. Obviously I'm not. It's just music, dude, nobody is superior to anyone else because of their musical tastes. 4. I never said they were my band or that they weren't successful. But, to put things into perspective...Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends has sold around two thirds as many copies as all of Radiohead's albums combined. Radiohead have never had a radio hit apart from Creep (though I suppose cases could be made for Karma Police and a couple songs from The Bends). All I said in my post was that Muse are CURRENTLY more mainstream than Radiohead.
