Sternly, here is the web site of an anti-GMO (and pro-farmer, pro-women) activist and her foundation...she's based in India, but is famous worldwide by now due to her resistance against Monsanto and others. You will get a distinctly anti-GMO opinion on that web site. I've lived with and been friends of people who are doing cutting-edge research in plant biotechnology. They're some of the nicest people around and they feel that what they are doing will ultimately lead to a second "Green Revolution" wherein crop yields will increase significantly and we will be able to feed the world. Of course, you can feed the hungry even now...there is enough grain for that. It's the lack of political will that comes in the way. :/ http://www.vshiva.net/
  2. oh, since i'm the creator of this thread, I"m allowed one more thought listing: * this thread sure has outlived all my expectations. I thought it would bomb just all a lot of my other threads...but this one's been a success!! thanks u guys for sharing your thoughts with the community! :D

  4. It's grand to celebrate July 4th sitting on the steps of Capitol Building, facing the National Mall and listening to the "Capitol 4th Concert" live and then also watching the fireworks go off near Washington Monument. Grand, I tell ya!

  7. This is the story on NPR that I heard a few months ago. I HIGHLY recommend it to you folks, if you are interested in finding out more about what a BD person suffers thru... and it's a story of a 10-year old boy. Really moving! you will need Real Player, which I assume pretty much everyone now has. http://www.npr.org/features/feature.php?wfId=1898761 for other NPR stories on BD: http://search1.npr.org/search97cgi/s97_cgi?Action=FilterSearch&filter=archive_filter_clean.hts&ResultTemplate=allow_re_sort.hts&SortSpec=Date+Desc+Score+Desc&CleanQuery=bipolar&QueryText=&how_long_ago=365&collection=ME2&x=23&y=8
  8. I don't think being Bi-polar can be compared to being depressive. It's more than just that. It's the mood swings of Bipolar that can kill you! :(
  9. 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A, A these are all terms of classification for high schools in the U.S. (generally speaking), in order to pair high schools into divisions for sports and academic competitions. You would not want a small school with fewer resources to be competing in the same league as a big school...so that's the reason for classification. Usually, the bigger the school, the higher the prestige for its sports and academic teams...but not always. Eric, in terms of economics, we two seem to think alike...pretty much center of the line! :D Which means, we don't want too much government poking its nose in our business. But we also want enough government role so that taxes get collected from everyone and public projects get taken care of using public funds. That's only fair, I guess. :D In terms of social policy, I guess you are more 'authoritarian' but not a whole lot off from the center. Which means, you like the society to behave like what you think is right (you might be against abortion and pro-death penalty, for example).
  10. hey Manders, hope you're not pulling our collective "leg" here by saying you're bipolar  but as such, 'bipolar' is not a disease that one could 'catch' from others; it's rather a disorder of the brain. I heard of it a few months ago (last year), when I found out that one of the guys working in our office had to be let go because his mood swings were just getting to be too much for others and it was not proper for his own safety. Bipolar Disorder sufferers are many in the U.S., and it's really a difficult state to be in, not just for the person suffering from it, but also for all their friends and family. There was a feature on Bipolar Disorder on the American NPR (National Public Radio) and it really opened my eyes to what this is all about. It's really aweful and sad. :( If you guys would like to learn more about BD, visit this web site: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/bipolar.cfm Bipolar Disorder A detailed booklet that describes symptoms, causes, and treatments, with information on getting help and coping.
