The NEW 2024 Leaks Thread
Had to dust off the old coldplaying account after learning about these songs - anyone know where I can check them out? I've found one or two, but would be cool to check more of them out. Wild to finally hear the vocals to Famous Old Painters ~15 years after the original leak of it. I can see why it wasn't released, Chris seems a little unsure with that melody and lyrics but even so, I've listened to it so any times in the last few days. Even in that state, would've been great of Prospekt. The direction they were going back then with that and Spanish Rain, and that "The Dubliners" song (as people called it - did a recording of that ever leak) was a really tantalizing direction for the band. I remeber Chris said the latter would be part of a post Prospekt's March EP (?) we used to speculate on. I'm fascinated to hear the Wedding Bells recording you all are talking about. Any connection to Wedding Song? Interesting how public Chris was with that unfinished song, with the website update back then, etc, when it seems it wasn't even done yet. He must've really liked it I guess, but very forward in a way - he was basically giving a glimpse into songwriting in front of live/tv audiences. Didn't know about the accordion based Charlie Brown until now. Hilarious even with these massive leaks people still did not get Car Kids hahaha - I remember how weirdly crazy everyone on this board used to want that song; I still a not sure what about it caused such hype haha. Last thing - I saw someone asking what other band released unreleased songs to combat bootleggers. Well, I'm sure many (Bob Dylan bootleg series comes to mind, even the Basement Tapes was released for that reason), BUT it brought to mind The Beatles anthology. That came out just a little after the 30th anniversary of their first album. We're only 4 years from the 30th anniversary of Parachutes, so we are roughly at the timeframe for something similar. Might have been what the files in these leaks were compiled for? Just speculating.

The Awesome Random Posting Thread
@coldplayer#16 I hear ya there! I just logged in for the first time in God knows when (maybe I was here for a post or two AHOD release? But other than I haven't been active here since MX ), just to check out the response to the new song. No profile picture anymore, navigation and profile are different...I wonder if anyone from my days here still posts. It's crazy, I used to spend so much time on here but I don't think I was ever noticed haha! Guess forums weren't for me!

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I haven't posted here in a while, but just wanted to say I quite enjoy the new album. Yeah, I'll never like it better than Viva or X&Y, but I still enjoy it more than almost everything else out today. It's creative and I like that aspect, even if it's different. It took a while to catch on for me, but as different as it is, it's still Coldplay. I never got around to writing a review of the album, and I haven't posted a lot, but I just wanted to voice my opinion to show people that not EVERYONE hates the album; fans like me are just silent. I feel like the "silent fans" who do like the album often feel underrepresented, but it's merely cause many of us don't share our opinion. So don't worry AHFOD fans, you're not alone!

Plan The Ultimate Super Bowl Half-Time Show for Coldplay
Ah okay, that's what I figured. Thanks for clearing that up!

Plan The Ultimate Super Bowl Half-Time Show for Coldplay
I just saw a commerical that said a new "Hawaii Five-0" episode will feature "4 new Coldplay songs". This is the first I'm hearing of this. Can anyk e clear this up? Are we indeed getting 4 new songs soon, or they mean songs from the new album? I don't watch the show so I don't know how it does things.

When will the North American tour of AHFOD happen?
The US leg of the tour seems pecularily short to me. Especially considering that this will possibly be their last tour for a while. For the MX tour they had two nights at many locations, and hit more states. Now, I get that they may not want to do such a massive tour again, but I feel these will sell out really fast, missing out on potential revenue not only from big fans, but also from casual fans who may want to see them live after their super bowl performance. By the time the super bowl hits, it seems like this tour may already be sold out.

If anyone is interested is interested, I converted the youtube video into an mp3 mixtape format for my own personal collection. I don't usually zip files, but it should work :P I'm sure someone will put up a better quality one soon, but in the meantime if you want the mp3s just PM me. :) I can also post in in MM if nothing better comes up

That cover of imagine is truly beautiful, and that's not something I say often. There have been a lot of Imagine covers over the years, but Chris's is just so filled with emotion...the best cover I've heard. Bravo boys.

[2015-11-10] Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland interview on Magic in the Morning
Chris mentioning The Stones and The Clash as big influences on the band made me really happy. Everyone is going on about how they're influenced by pop now, but clearly they are still influenced by the music they grew up with. Personally, I'd love to hear Coldplay due some Clash style numbers in the future. Something that sounds like "Straight To Hell" (though obviously with more Chris appropriate lyrics) would be really cool I think and maybe actually work with AOAL type stuff. Also loved when he made sure everyone knew he had his Oasis history right, making sure to mention Noel changing "Rain" to "Oasis". :laugh3:

Up&Up
With Beyonce, Merry Clayton and two (!) solos on this track, I think it'll be kind of like Noel's "Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me" maybe mixed with "Stop The Clocks". A grand finale of epic proportions featuring everyone!

Colour Spectrum
So, is this the "color" song for this album? I mean, they don't actually say the name of a color, but they literally use the word "colour" and the spectrum is every color!

Regarding Jonny, Will, and Guy
^That was amazing! So glad to see them all together again! That was hilarious!

===The ultimate Oldplaying Thread===S, BS, TBR, P, AROBTTH, X&Y, VLV, PM===
Yeah the fact that Noel is on the album gives me a lot of hope actually. I can definitely see some sounds Noel would dig on AOAL, and I think he'd keep whatever track he's on from becoming too poppy. I imagine it will sound like some of the stuff on his solo albums. Danceable, but psychedelic instead of poppy. Also, just curious, what is the Gwyneth/Yoko thing?

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Anyone have any idea why the vinyl version of the album comes with two records? I'm a big vinyl buff, so I'm definitely going to buy it. Curious if the album is spread out over two records, if they are both the same, or if the second includes extra stuff such as remixes.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Oh my God this is amazing! I've been looking forward to this since I found out Noel and Chris were friends! I definitely have high, psychedelic hopes for that track!

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Sorry, I missed a lot of posts so I just want to make sure: Is the Noel Gallagher collaboration confirmed, or does the rumor at least come from a believable source? If so that would be a music dream come true!

Exactly. Production can make all the difference sometimes, it can really damage a well written song, or alternatively help a mediocre song. Thanks so much! :D

#AOAL - Please post your review
Well no one was expecting that. I have so far only listened to the song two times, so these are only my initial reactions, which may be the most honest. On "Adventure of A Lifetime" Coldplay basically go disco. It's a funky track, closer to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" or something from Earth, Wind, and Fire than even something from Ghost Stories. Funk music is not something I really listen to much. If, for example, "Get Lucky" comes on the radio, I do enjoy it. It's 70s influence break the monotony of generic radio drivel. I will occasionally go listen to it if a "funky" mood strikes me, but that isn't very often. As a Coldplay fan, clearly my "core" interests lie elseware, in rock music. However, that doesn't mean I can't enjoy funk/disco tracks. I just need to be in the right kind of mood. That being said, Adventure of a Lifetime is a good disco track. There are things I like and things I don't if I'm being completly honest, but I will get into those in a second. I think of new Coldplay tracks this way: If I had never heard Coldplay and heard this track on the radio, would I be drawn in to listen to their other work. And the only time the answer was close to a "no" was with "A Sky Full of Stars". The reason even this song would have drawn me in is it still features many classic Coldplay elements, ie. Jonny's chiming guitar riffs, Chris's complex patterns of singing (even if the lines themselves are pretty straightforward), a rocking drum part featuring real(!) drums by Will, and Guy's intericate and melodic bass lines. It's Coldplay covered in textures we don't know, but it's still Coldplay. As for the postives of the tracks, Jonny sounds great, as does Guy. To me, the song is very much a "jam" that was turned into a pop song. I could see, with different production and slight changes to the melody, this sound fitting on X&Y. Which may sound strange, but the basic outline of the song could easily have been taken in a space-rock direction, rather than a pop one. I think the Coldplaying community would have enjoyed that direction more, but even so, this song is not completely isolating to long time fans, though perhaps middling. The melody is also, while not Coldplay's best, an improvment on songs like "A Sky Full of Stars" and "ETIAW". It's a bit more of a tradional "song" rather than just serving as buildup, basically singing the background music as Chris had sort of done on those previous tracks. I especially like the part at around 3:30ish, where it starts sounding (honestly a little too) close to one of my favorite Beatles tracks "It's Only Love". That melody is arguably closer to "Oldplay". Personally I would have liked to hear more of that. And that is one of the most difficult things about this track. It's a very good disco hit, but the elements of a great Coldplay song are all there, they just weren't necessarily capitalized on. The song could have been a spacey endeavor, and in some ways still is, but instead it goes more into the group's "pop direction". Now let me talk about some of the worst thing about the track. The Production. At times, it's okay. The guitar sounds great the whole time, so that's a plus. Will's drum part is great, but is only occasionally done justice by the production. Too many times it is drowned out by the many sounds going on in the track, and that is truly a shame. The same can be said with Guy. He is prominently featured, but at times it becomes hard to distinguish even him. And while I like the first time the song fades out to just Chris and Guy, one time was enough. Revisiting that trick multiple times, as the track does, makes it sound a tad too generic, as if they are very consciously trying to get the song into the club scene. This would be fine, but admitidly it does sound forced the second time around. it's not a big issue, but I fear that the "being forced" sound may hurt the entire album when it comes out. Another issue is that, while cool, the voices in the background distract from the song at times. Personally, I wouldn't have kept them in the whole time, as i think with Jonny's guitar riff they make the whole thing a little too busy at times, and I would rather be able to closely enjoy what the band is playing. But that's a minor qualm. Speaking of the album, for all the flaws this track might have to many listeners, I believe it has the chance to sound very good on the finished album, better than it does as a single. With the background effects and the small shoegaze influence, I could see elements of this song, which are featured as "effects" being connected to the rest of the album. "Motifs" if you will. The song's production, though maligned in many areas, gives me the vibe that the album will be meant to be listened to as a whole, almost as a journey or something. I could be wrong about that, but that is the vibe I get from the production. Also, this song is unlike anything Coldplay has done. While I wouldn't want an album of tracks like this, having this one "disco" track on a super diverse album would actually be kind of cool. It may not end up being my favorite track on said album, but it would be cool that Coldplay are showing that they can make a cool song in any style, which I feel they have not done to a huge extent since Viva La Vida, which featured many styles of music. So that's my review. Final consensus: it's a great disco song, but not what Coldplay fans were expecting. Still, enough familiar attributes are there that it won't completely isolate many fans, though it may be seen as a "missed opportunity to them. Though production may raise concern for "A Head Full of Dream", the diversity of the track may mean that album could be a unique treat.

I like that the cover looks sort of indie. Don't know if that will represent the sound, but that's the vibe I get from the cover.

[2015-11-06] AOAL Premier at Nick Grimshaw Show BBC1
@I Ran Away: I know your pain. Me and some friends were at Starbucks yesterday and the same song looped for the entire hour we were there. Granted, the song was okay, but any song played for an hour straight gets annoying to me...well, except maybe Coldplay songs!;)

[2015-11-06] AOAL Premier at Nick Grimshaw Show BBC1
Just curious, will there be a way to listen to the show after it has aired? Trying to decide if I should stay up until 2:45 or just listen to a "rerun" in the morning.

I hope coldplaying is ready for the huge influx of people that will be visiting the site!:laugh3: I remember how busy this place got right before MX was released!
