  1. Martin describes the record as "personal within a big framework" Coldplay look to 'outsiders' for inspiration It has taken Coldplay four albums and 10 years to get around to it, but the band have confirmed they are finally on the verge of releasing their "concept" album. The as-yet-untitled record is being produced by Brian Eno and Marcus Dravs - the same team behind the band's last album Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends - the best selling album of 2008. "It's from the point of view of two people who are a bit lost," Coldplay frontman Chris Martin says. "Two like-minded outsiders who meet in a very difficult environment and therefore have a journey together." Viva La Vida was seen by critics as a return to form after a more muted response for their previous effort - the equally commercially successful X&Y. While Viva La Vida explored grander sweeping themes of love and war, Martin said the new album will be more intimate by comparison. "It's a concept album but it's supposed to be very personal within a big framework. Does that make sense?" Much of Viva La Vida's musical experimentation came from producer Brian Eno, who began his career with Roxy Music and has produced artists including David Bowie and Talking Head's David Byrne. "Brian is the sower of seeds and ideas and experimenting, which is very liberating. Then Marcus's job is to come in after all that's been done and try and sculpt it into some kind of releasable format. They're like a tag team," says Martin. The chaotic recording sessions left them with a lot of half-formed and half-completed tracks, he adds. "We spent a year making a lot of noise. You know those things in a fairground where you have bran in a tub and in there are some hidden prizes? That's sort of where we are at," says Martin. "Like a lucky dip?," clarifies his bandmate, guitarist Jonny Buckland. "Yeah, a lucky dip," Martin agrees. While the music remains a collaborative effort between musicians and producers, the songwriting is still very much up to Martin. The singer admits bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion can be brutal in their assessment of his new lyrics. "Jonny's delightful, he's the easiest to convince," he smiles. "It's when you have to take a verse to Guy or Will that things become very tearful. "I think Guy isn't too savage with your lyrics, it's Will really," adds Buckland. "He's savage." Yet internal squabbles over lyrics aside, Martin insists he is grateful for such candour. "I'm so lucky that we have that group, in as much as there are a lot of people who don't like us in the world, but there would be a lot more without this filtering system. Think of the rubbish that doesn't get out, if you don't like the stuff that does." Later this month, Coldplay will play two sold-out gigs for UK homeless charity Crisis - a cause long-supported by the band. "I think it will be good for us to get our gig feet on for a couple of days because sometimes you can get very institutionalised in the studio," says Martin. "There's a danger that you forget that you're going to have to play this for people and that's when music can become a little bit silly." Buckland agrees that the months the four-piece have spent in the studio have taken their toll: "You can forget that there are other people in the world, you can become so focused on the small group that's around you. "It's very much like I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here in our studio," says Martin. "A lot of difficult tasks and people that you find it hard to get along with, i.e. me." Martin and Buckland say they don't have a definite date for release of the new album but add dryly that it will be "some time in the future". Rather too self-deprecatingly given their past chart success, Martin suggests that he would like to avoid a potential battle with another big UK band. "Preferably not the same week Take That are doing anything. Nowadays, if Gary says he might be possibly playing piano on a certain day, we just say, 'Ok we'll go and work in Germany that day, there's no point in us being here.'" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11961347
  2. I love the song!I would give it an 8.I love Wedding Bells and I dont know if I like the way the two lines are used in Christmas Lights. Maybe because im just use to hearing them in Wedding Bells. But I love the song and you can tell how much they have progressed with their song structures!!
  3. Love Christmas Lights!!Everything I expected and more!!Love how the song has evolved!!I cant wait to see the video!!
  4. Something small that I noticed, but did anyone notice the old Coldplay font on the art work?Pretty excited about new coldplay material!!Cant wait!!
  5. I kind of hope they dont perform a new song. They have been shaky at times during awards shows. The last AMA performance wasnt their best either. And knowing how Chris feels about playing awards shows I dont see why they would want to present a new song like that. But I guess we will just have to wait and see.Either way im pretty excited as all this news is starting to pick up and we can now do are usual speculating and getting our hopes up!!New album is almost here!!
  6. What Coldplay song gives you the most imagery when you listen to it?For me Viva La Vida's songs out of all the albums gives you the most imagery. For me its Prospekt's March/Poppyfields. Especially when he sings "here I lie on my own in a separate sky" I can just imagine laying down in a nice field with the sun setting looking up at the sky. And the Poppyfields instrumental, the first time I heard it,I told myself,"I cant think of anything but poppyfields when I hear this."What songs do it for you guys?
  7. Just looked up some videos on the guitar Jonny has and the possibilities are endless with that guitar.I cant wait to hear what Jonny does with that thing!!
  8. Rainy Day-Havent played it in a while.Forgot how awesome this song is!!

I dont know man...220 Miles Up sounds pretty damn close to Chris. And I also dont know who would go through all this trouble just to post it as a fake. These songs sounds pretty good!!Maybe we will never know...
  10. Love this album too!!One of my favorites.Ive been listening to it a lot lately too!!
  11. IneedYou23 replied to roche714's topic in Coldplay
Just heard it.Someone posted it again on youtube. To me it definately sounds like Chris. It sounds to me like this is Parachutes era.Could possibly be a demo.
  12. IneedYou23 replied to roche714's topic in Coldplay
Yea,im curious as well!!Hopefully someone will re-post it or it will re-service somewhere.I want to hear it so I can judge for myself.
  13. Oh yea how could i forget the Life In Technicolor ii vid?!?!That was pretty good!!That and Strawberry Swing were my two favorites.
  14. I persnoally think that the boys missed a golden opportunity to do something epic with their videos for the Viva La Vida album.I love the videos that they put out and obviously they put some thought into them or else they wouldnt have put them out. But I just think with the amazing lyrics and sounds of the tracks they maybe could have done something even better.I thought we might have seen some images of war in the Viva La Vida video instead of them just performing.Or something done in Japan with Lovers In Japan for examples.I think Strawberry Swing is the best video out of all of them. But even I was expecting something different for that video. Im not complaing,I guess I hold my expectations high when it comes to them.So what do you guys think? Were you expecting something different from what they put out for the vidoes?
  15. I understand the whole thing about the live shows and the backing tracks. One of the reasons I got into Coldplay was that when they played live it was just the four of them.As I can see how it would be hard to do this with Viva seeing as how many different elements are used on some of the tracks. It bugs me a little that they used a backing track of the piano for Lovers In Japan during their live shows. But I guess I am willing to overlook that kind of stuff and eventually i get over it and it doesnt bother me. Im pretty sure we will see you around here again.Later!
  16. Yea I think thats what I kind of always thought what people meant about it being overproduced. But I actually like all those electronic sounds.I actually dont even think that its too electronic of an album.Im sure they could have gone even further with the crazy sounds if they wanted too.
  17. So since X&Y came out in 2005 critics and fans often say that the album was overproduced.I love X&Y,and I dont really understand what people mean when they say it was overproduced. Is it the synths or the way Chris voice sounds? To me it sounds perfect. But I guess if you are nit picky about that stuff then you can hear the difference. But I dont really get all caught up in that stuff.I just want to enjoy the music! But if you guys could kind of give some examples as to why people state this that would be helpful! Thanks!!
  18. It would be great to get a DVD since they havent officially released one since 2003 which would be 7 years!!And I think the Viva La Vida tour would translate so well on a dvd!!And I think we all would love a documentry too!
  19. Awww that sucks!!So is that why he wears hats all the time you think?
  20. I think he is!!I think he is using Guy's other bass!!
  21. Is Jonny playing the bass??
