  1. Sounds like more along the lines of Ghost Story maybe? GS is not heavy but it's much more guitar/drum driven than usual.
  2. I think it is both encouraging and discouraging. Since MX and GS i just can't trust the band as much; I find it partially reflective of Chris's change of music taste, from U2 to Miley Cyrus etc. :worried: Better songs on the album to them. And of course it's their album, they deserve to put whatever they please on it. But PoC instead of MtM/Christmas Lights? Magic/True Love instead of Atlas? :whaaat: It hurts me to think about these choices. I'd hate for a repeat. There is still plenty of reason to be excited though. [:
  3. I feel a liltle bad when anyone's offended; I wish they wouldn't be. I'm not religious but I sometimes find other peoples' faith beautiful and inspiring. And the great thing about music is it's up for interpretation. U2 is openly Christian but I interpret their song lyrics about God/religon as about love. If Chris speaks of his faith, was it brought on by his (albeit sometimes awkward) personal opening up on GS and will we hear more of it? I think even if it is, it sounds lovely here; ties in well (regardless of my beliefs) with the themes of the universe/our smallness in the grand scheme of things and the beauty of human vulnerability/connection. :) The melodies, with the gorgeous strings and :jonny:'s amaze shimmery guitar and the epic :guy: bass line, really enhance everything.
  4. We hope. Did Chris say horns on the new album? That would be amazing.
  5. This is why the forum wins. Thanks a bunch for understanding :)
  6. Eyes and stars? Sounds like Yellow to me. There are many infinitely simplistic yet beautiful lyrics on Parachutes and X&Y but yet no huge sticking point. What about the poetry and chaos dudeeee? This is also just the live version. From MX we know songs can be quite different live vs studio. I bet the strings will sound much better there. I noticed this with my previous account starting around the time ETiaW and Paradise came out- a growing all-or-nothing division with the middle ground shrinking. Certainly people of all opinions deserve a place here. Viva in particular was crazy- while it blew the fandom away and was imo their creative apex :viva:  it also set unrealistic expectations going forward. To me it's like hearing Kid A (your name) and then ending up at King of Limbs. Still has a couple great songs but artists seem to shed risk and creativity as they get older. But that also doesn't make the music terrible. That may be what we're seeing but who knows? AHFoD could bring back a lot of cultural influences too. :) I know not of this inescapable spiral you speak of. But to each their own.
  7. To each their own. Maybe think of it as him thanking the random, chaotic nature of the universe for everything coincidentally lining up for his rare, amazing day. Would be quite a reason to rejoice considering the general unlikelihood. From what he's said about his spiritual beliefs and lyrics from songs like Yes he does seem to believe in a god in some form, though.
  8. Nothing here is obvious. When did they say the new album would be drastically different from GS? Both albums came about from the same general recording sessions after all. Up in Flames also has the lyrics and vibe of GS but it's on MX. For one thing, Amazing Day is not nearly as empty as GS, there's much more layering and guitar and violin (Rossi's supposedly bigger role in AHFOD?) prominence. Plus the article said Coldplay were on the fence about playing it there. How could it be a stand-alone festival song if that were the case?
  9. Which albums are your favorite by them?
  10. Any way to watch on mobile? Can't seem to find the YT stream
  11. Everyone who says it's a song just for the festival is ignoring this point
  12. It could be from a number of things. But I'm thinking even upbeat albums have slower, more driving songs, just look at MX and it sounds more fleshed out/complex than the GS songs. I love how the lyrics' demeanor combine with the somewhat melancholy melody though- very Parachutes-esque. The song gets better the more we hear it (imo) :) Not sold on the hat though. Expecting him to RollBack Walmart prices with that smilie
  13. Agreed. The unforgettable reactions you get from everyone at lunch when asked what you're listening to and you say "Cemeteries of London" :speechless: :worried: :uneasy: :whaaat: :escaping2: This may relate to Chris wanting to outdo Pharrell with "the perfect happy song." The actual melody is a little melancholy though.
  14. Apologies. My knowledge of music is slim. But that is reassuring (imo) Guy's bass is much louder live to me
  15. Hmm. Mixed feels. Liking that Jonny guitar. But why the electronic drums? I thought we were passed this. :shame: Also does anyone know where I can find that long list of songs Coldplay were considering for MX?
  16. I distinctly remember the band saying they wanted to make a completely acoustic album for MX, starting with UAtW, UwtB, UFO and the early versions of Charlie Brown but then Paradise came along and they couldn't make it just acoustic or justify the several more years they would still need to complete such an album. I mean they said it would probably take 4-5 years and the quality of Ghost Stories makes it sound like it was thrown together in a couple months (imo, no offense to GS fans). 2011-2015/2016? If that's what this is going to be I may die of happiness. :D
  17. This is a good idea. Still, I'd prefer if they did album re-releases and put say the unreleased tracks from X&Y as bonus tracks for that album, that way everything is in it's right place. I've seen them do similar with Radiohead's albums. There's so much story to tell in MX, I'm eternally wishing for a second disc to complete it. I'm always hopeful for a Coldplay era where they have so many great songs the band is compelled to break the 42 minute rule. They kind of did this with Prospekt's March though.
  18. Tis a great album. But "you guys have no musical appreciation" (put down) coupled with "let's try to be open-minded" (condescending) will come off as alienating to your audience. Maybe argue for MX from an instrumental point of view- (the last) where Jonny and Will shined with their epic talent. This is something I'm desperate to see return in AHFoD. Between VlV and MX Jonny hit such a high point, just to strip out all of his amazeness save for the end of the terrible True Love and the way they completely played over/produced into near-nonexistence his riffs in ASFoS. Nonsense. Utter nonense.
  19. Same here :cry2: Not in terms of poor quality but songs that didn't make it on the album and deserved to; the disappointment when listening to Moving to Mars (or even the great lyrics on the MX cover we never heard). But replace PoC and Paradise with Moving to Mars and Christmas Lights and that's a completely different album to me. Many of Coldplay's best songs lately (Moving to Mars, Christmas Lights, Atlas, Miracles, All Your Friends and Ghost Story relegated to just the deluxe version) have been absent from their actual album releases these past five years (imo) and I'd hate to see that trend continue. :(
  20. It's a fool's LA? :laugh4: That's what it looks like and it would rhyme.
  21. I'm curious, where did people see "All I wanted was right here in my arms"? Because change a word or two and that's Depeche Mode
  22. Sounds better than almost everything from Ghost Stories already :P
  23. Same here but Hurts Like Heaven for me  Distorting the hell out of Jonny's guitar for absolutely no reason. I did like how Guy's bass sounded turned up tonight though. I definitely don't notice it as much in the studio versions of songs/other performances I've seen by them.
  24. I also got this feeling, he sounded most off in Paradise. Considering he got better as it went on, I wonder if they weren't happy the way the guy (Elvis?) basically threw something on the floor after they were kind the first time and was like "let's see if we can make them do anything like a trained dog." I found it classless. You don't treat someone like that, especially not on live tv. Maybe they decided not to play the song after that.
