  6. 1. O (10/10) 2. Always in My Head (9/10) 3. Midnight (8.5/10) 4. Oceans (8.5/10) 5. Another’s Arms (8.0/10) 6. Ink (7.0/10) 7. A Sky Full of Stars (6.5/10) 8. True Love (5.5/10) 9. Magic (3.5/10) My least favorite album by them for sure. I can't complain though, I'm glad they're willing to do something different every album. If it wasn't for said mentality we wouldn't have Viva and they'd be like The Fray, making the same music every album which is not thrilling :P Besides, there's still the bonus tracks.
  7. This. Will's voice is beautiful.
  8. It's probably true that it's unfair to put any album up against VlVoDaAHF. ;) The only album I can think of that stands a chance is ARoBttH. Now that's a match-up, Ghost Stories doesn't stand a chance, I'm afraid
  9. This song makes me feel like I've reached spiritual nirvana :wings:

I think it would sound better without the bombastic beat, I don't know. Chris's vocals are awesome and the lyrics are great but that beat makes it sound too much like a OneRepublic song  edit: Although, it's not nearly as bad as it could've been. If it was anything like the beat on the remix he did of Apologize I'd be extremely upset.

May someone send me True Love as well? Please and thank you [:

Same here :/ would you be willing to specify?

That was “True Love,” which Mr. Martin described as the band’s favorite song it had ever written. He asked that everyone put their camera phones away and not record it, so that it didn’t leak to YouTube, and so that it could be just a moment shared between artist and fan. He did not request a vow of silence from music critics, though, so here goes: “True Love” is eerie and uncomfortable, a literal begging. “I wish you could have let me know/What’s really going on below/I’ve lost you now, you let me go.” At the chorus, Mr. Martin sings earnestly and without pride, “Tell me you love me/If you don’t then lie,” dragging that last word out but putting no power behind it. Onstage, Will Champion played slo-mo prizefight percussion, and Jonny Buckland’s guitar lines near the end were dry and needy. But in total, the song lacks the pomp — nay, the arrogance — that has been Coldplay’s calling card, and its saving grace. uhhh-ohhh :anxious: On the other hand, NYT hasn't exactly been a supporter of Coldplay by any means. And since when is Coldplay arrogant? I take it this writer doesn't know them well http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/07/arts/music/coldplay-unveils-new-songs-at-the-beacon-theater.html?_r=0
  14. Us Against the World :)
  15. Thanks a bunch [: I really appreciate that. I've been writing for about seven years now, all the practice really helps- the more you do it the better you get I think. I agree that often you need the right mood to write. Bad moods inspire me as much as good ones though, as long as it's one of the extremes it comes out powerful
  16. Many of the works here are beautiful and well thought out, nice work :) I'll give it a shot Haven Two decades hastened past thine eyes, waxed and waned like the silver moon. Your parents hailed the heavens high, your blessing made the angels swoon. Alas, the world was much maligned to honor thee, though fortune bare, you threatened status quo’s designs with values, quirks woven with Time. Your sound heart, cloaked in stark despair, free-spirited, disposed to roam, may find haven betwixt the gloam and dawn of my passionate flare.
  17. I wonder what time the museum opens  it's Friday morning there, hopefully someone will find the lyrics in the next few hours :)

Almost, good sir or ma'am. You're quite right though, the lyrics are great. It just makes me that much more worried he could mess up what otherwise would be an incredible song. I mean, after all, ASFoS sounds really great without Avicii in it, I fear that kind of an outcome.
  20. This. So much better, it's sad to realize how great the song could've been if they applied the album philosophy to this song like they should have and stripped it down from its excesses
  21. :uhoh: I mean, you need to understand music in context. Yellow was as "pop" for the early 2000's as this is for 2014 which I don't see you complaining about, and it's not amazing, it's not fantastic but it's not horrible either. It's okay at best and worst. I'm much more ashamed to hear Princess of China, Magic, and Paradise with Coldplay's name on it as opposed to this. Coldplay has been a "Top 40 Act" since 2003 when Clocks charted at 29 if you want to get technical and to be honest you're wasting your time. Chris said it himself in the Zane Lowe, he doesn't care what people think of the music they're making anymore. Even if it's not the direction I'd personally desire, I'm glad they're willing to evolve musically and not remain safe and stagnant the way someone like The Fray does for example. You can't control what the band does and frankly I'm just glad we haven't had Miley Cyrus in any of the new music because Chris has talked about his admiration for less-than-great artists in the past so I'm not surprised by this, I'm just thankful it's not worse. I can't imagine who they would've collaborated with if it wasn't for Will laying down the hammer.

I'm not a fan of his, but I've certainly heard both better and worse. That's a good point, Johnny solos do make everything in life better. Part of my fear stems from how he took the original Apologize by OneRepublic and turned it into a steamlined mess, replacing their unique beat with a generic one and stripping out much of the violin. But as you said, it is only the bass drum and not production of the whole song. I suppose only time will tell. Don't let me down Will. :will:
  23. HowCouldIForget replied to Tash's topic in True Love
To begin with, that's an unfounded assumption. If I'd heard all of the songs on MX except Paradise and PoC and just assumed I'd like the last two because I liked the other twelve, I really couldn't be more wrong. In addition, a song is a delicate arrangement of disparate elements and all it takes is one element of the song to derail it, case in point the lyrics in Another's Arms when everything else about it is fantastic. If you don't believe percussion can (not always does) make or break a song, listen to When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin. :drummer: And even if you don't buy that, there's also the matter of principle. If they brought in Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber to provide backing vocals for a song, even if I couldn't tell it was them, the fact that they were on the album to begin with based on what they represent would be a travesty.

I almost had a panic attack and started crying when I read this. The only saving grace is that OneRepublic's first two albums are pretty great, so there's some hope this won't be an absolute travesty
  25. Agreed. I don't like how the drums and guitar have been pushed more to the background, I really liked how they stood out in the live versions. Johnny and Will are so talented and that shouldn't be repressed. Edit: I heard the beginning of the studio version during the interview on Zane's laptop and I'm much more happy, the guitar is less prominent in the part of the song that is up on soundcloud. Still, the drums though
