I thou was a vegetarian for 2 years, but I needed a source of protein.

I was like "screw tofu, the only sort of meat I really don't agree with is mass farming, so I'll just buy free range". Sorted, I can eat bacon now.

Same here. My objection was never to consumption of meat, but to industrial farming, cruel housing and slaughter methods, and a completely mismanaged distribution of products. We produce more than we need, throw the rest away due to insane surplus laws, then say there isn't enough food for everyone...
