I think you got to take it line by line. ask yourself why you like the song and does it make any connection with personal experiences you've had? For instance, the lines... *lights go out and I can't be saved tides that I tried to swim against have brought me down upon my knees...you are, you are... I interpret these lines as me running out of time to solve a personal problem, something that I tried to change and yet couldn't and I'm sorry for not being able to succeed, but there is that special someone that will make it okay. I hope this gets you started
