June 12, 200520 yr alright... i love the song swallowed in the sea. but i was wondering what this section of the song means... any ideas? You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me and that’s what made me see where I was going wrong You put me on a shelf and kept me for yourself I can only blame myself, you can only blame me maybe i'm not getting the picture, but what does the tree represent? :/
June 21, 200520 yr i think cutting down the tree represents making an effort for someone you are close to .. my guess is the song is about a relationship and making the other person realise what they've got and how good the relationship is ... if that makes sense, i can relate to this song but then again i can relate to most of Coldplay's songs
June 21, 200520 yr Kind of like starting to appreciate something after losing it, but without the losing it part (I think).
June 22, 200520 yr Hey, first time poster. Maybe this is a bit out there, but throughout the song, they talk about writing songs and writing books. And you write on paper, which comes from trees. Thus, the tree is the start, the inspiration. So when someone is cutting a tree for him, I think she (or he) is providing the band the inspiration. And yeah, everything else is about now appreciating what they provided. I think. Maybe it's a X-mas song about cutting down christmas trees.
June 22, 200520 yr that's wiggity wack! yea he's definitely singing about cuttiing down christmas trees, tho.
June 22, 200520 yr Hey' date=' first time poster. [/quote'] I never thought of that before, it sounds very possible though! I would have to say something like that also. And, whatever the true meaning of it is, it's still one freakin sad song :( .
June 22, 200520 yr I think. Maybe it's a X-mas song about cutting down christmas trees. Makes me hear it in a new way when you put it like that!
August 30, 200520 yr Just got something to say, it is off the subjects but i believe every Coldplay song is written and sang in a way that when you listen it would reflect everything you've done or thought about. " Not swallowed in the sea" what do you get from that....?
September 27, 200520 yr I always considered the opening line - "You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me ..." - to be decidedly sad. Who would want someone to cut down a tree and bring the severed trunk back to someone else? Presumably someone they love/want to impress? How is that a good, positive thing? The fact that the next line is "... And that's what made me see where I was going wrong ..." makes me think that the narrator of the song see the destructive edge in the relationship they are in with whoever cut the tree down and realises that it is not the kind of relationship they want. However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Fire away, kids!
October 19, 200520 yr I think. Maybe it's a X-mas song about cutting down christmas trees. thats funny! :D
October 19, 200520 yr well i really like this song, but i never really analyzed it or looked for its meaning...i mean why not just listen to the song and let it be well thats my opinion.... :D
October 31, 200520 yr i think chris just decided to make a song where the words rhymed but they don't make any sense. that's my take anyway!
November 6, 200520 yr i hate when people say that... i'm sure it has a deeper meaning than we may understand... probably makes alot of sense to chris... Xmas tree... lol :) I just really like this song, you just feel a connection to music for no apparent reason. I especially like the end: What good is it to live with nothing left to give. forget but nor forgive not loving all you see!
November 10, 200520 yr coldplay write songs that has a lot of meanings, it is for us listeners to find that meaning their words may not be deep but it is deep enough to relate it to anything that's happening to ourlives their songs can be interpreted in many different ways it is us the listeners who will interpret those great song=in our own way=universally that's what makes them coldplay=genius :)
