Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation... 1. Radiohead - OK Computer ...and it made me think. Will Coldplay ever make a classic album along the lines of Radiohead's Ok Computer or The Beatles Revolver? So far they have yet to make a classic album. Don't get me wrong, I think X&Y,Parachutes and A Rush of Blood To The Head are good records. But none of them will ever be considered classics. Mostly because they haven't broken any barriers musically and because they aren't ''amazing''. Of course Coldplay is a very young band, and they may very well release a classic album in the future. But do they really have it in them?
June 21, 200521 yr sure, why not. Alright....maybe not like The Beatles because comparing Coldplay to them is a little off. But they are still developing musically and didn't Chris say there would be changes? Maybe they will bring out some true gem and it will make one of those lists. However, I think they are great even if they don't make it onto those charts.
June 21, 200521 yr yeh .. i don't really understand how coldplay's Rush Of Blood aint in that list definatly better than the strokes, the white stripes and outkast to just name a few, Rush Of Blood should definatly be in there :( i mean how many albums did it sell!!!?
June 21, 200521 yr Guess the Spin editors who put together the list must not be Coldplay fans. :/
June 21, 200521 yr might be. everything lays in the eye of the beholder,r ight? I am sure if others had made the list, the outcome would have been significantly different. as long as their fans dig their albums everything is great tho, isnt it?

June 21, 200521 yr If Chris Martin pops his clogs you will find 3 classic Coldplay albums added to that list ;)

Notice they have all sorts of music and different genres. Most of those albums in that list are actually albums that have been deemed "classics" (don't ask me by whom) and people usually agree that they are. I think AROBTTH should be included.

June 21, 200521 yr It's Spin, a lot of those artists do not belong there (such as Eminem). I think Parachutes is a classic already.
June 21, 200521 yr It's Spin' date=' a lot of those artists do not belong there (such as Eminem). I think Parachutes is a classic already.[/quote'] Good point, I very much agree!
June 21, 200521 yr Listen, I am a HUGE Beatles fan, look at their career. they revolutionized music and evolved, I'm sure Coldplay will also evolve. X&Y is also a big change for them, it is different then Parachutes & AROBTTH. I will not stop listening to them, and in my opinion the band itself is classic.
June 21, 200521 yr oh my, i didnt even see Eminem was on that list. Nothing against Eminem, I used to listen to his stuff...but...uh...okay that pretty much beats my definiton of a classic album
June 21, 200521 yr How are the Strokes on that list but not Coldplay?? I love the Strokes and all...but that makes NO sense... AROBTTH should have been on that list for sure. Oh well, those lists are never that great anyway...
June 21, 200521 yr It's Spin' date=' a lot of those artists do not belong there (such as Eminem). I think Parachutes is a classic already.[/quote'] A lot of rap fans will tell you, Marshall Mathers LP is indeed a classic. I agree with that list. Just because Coldplay isn't in it doesn't mean it's not "legit" or bad.
June 21, 200521 yr I do think they'll be seen as a certain kind of classic, just for their quality. And they'll be albums people will play for their kids, and future generations. People will look to Coldplay as examples of good songwriting and they'll be influential in that way. I just dont think they'll be classics on the level of OK Computer, Nevermind, The Joshua Tree or those albums from the 60s and 70s, which is fair, because they don't reflect the times. They are sort of just timeless albums which keeps them from being revolutionary. People whose personal favorite albums are all the "classics" are boring though.
June 21, 200521 yr How are the Strokes on that list but not Coldplay?? I love the Strokes and all...but that makes NO sense... AROBTTH should have been on that list for sure. Oh well' date=' those lists are never that great anyway...[/quote'] Simple answer: because it's a rock magazine and Coldplay don't rock as hard as the Strokes. Also, because of X&Y. Coldplay were never "cool" or rock n' roll to like, but lots of people ordinarily obsessed with being seen as cool (magazines like Spin, for instance) still liked them because their music was so good. But X&Y is so mainstream sounding that it's putting some of the old fans off Coldplay. It's probably the same reason Rolling Stone refused to list REM in their "Best 100 Bands Ever" issue, when throughout the '80s and '90s REM was the band they loved more than anyone. That was absolutely crazy and unfair, when Nine Inch Nails got in! But the reason is, REM's last album wasn't up to their old stuff, and people think it's the wrong time to honor REM even for their old stuff. If Coldplay had made a raw or risk taking rock album that fit with the Spin sensibility for #3, you can bet Parachutes or Rush of Blood would have been in that list.

Oh well' date=' those lists are never that great anyway...[/quote'] Simple answer: because it's a rock magazine and Coldplay don't rock as hard as the Strokes. I disagree. There's all sorts of genres on that list, you don't have to "rock hard" to be on it, obviously. Coldplay is just not there yet. They haven't changed music or turned it into a different direction, just yet. In time, I'm pretty sure they will.
June 21, 200521 yr I would have thought that AROBTTH was their classic album... but that list is a bit jaded.. how can you have D'Angelo's Vodoo over Jeff Buckley's Grace???? Thats perposterous... albiet, they are both great albums... but over Grace????!!!!
June 21, 200521 yr Where the f**k is "Joshua Tree" on that list??  I second that notion...
June 21, 200521 yr That's why I said.. it's Spin (a shitty music magazine) I wouldn't take it too seriously.
