What genre is coldplay? ive heard them called rock, pop, british pop, indie. but is their an official classification for their music?

i also heard they are indie mostly but their fans use to say they are britpop... :confused:

Hmm..I uploaded the Live 2003 CD to iTunes and it calls them Alternative...

They're mostly Alternative to me...

They are Indie or soft rock.

i think their genre is one of a kind----they should come up with their very own genre :P

Indie Rock: Indie is slang for a type of guitar orientated music derived from 'punk'. Indie has generated it's own fashions as with most youth music. Originally an abb. of Independent, being a record label not affiliated to a major label such as Sony or EMI.

 

I have said this once and will say it again, Coldplay IS NOT INDIE!!!

i thought indie was like bright eyes or the killers. and bands like that, not bands derived from punk.

Indie is basically bands that are based on a non-mainstream label, killers are on a mainstream label, Island, the same one that U2 is on, right?

really? i thought island was non mainstream. but i dont know much so..

I tend to group them with Britpop.. It's just convenient considering their from Britain and the quality of their songs puts them in that category. But Wikipedia/Answers.com call them "post-Britpop"

 

And well, they won grammies under the best "Alternative Music Album" back in 2003 for the 2002 Grammy Awards. So Alternative music? along with Radiohead, Bjork & Sigur Ros?

I've tagged all my Coldplay mp3s as "Alternative".

I think it fits the best ;)

They are not indie.

They are not rock.

Coldplay are a pop band I think.

Maybe soft-rock, or melodic-rock fits te description.
