Featured Replies

what type of organ is it for fix you? a jazz organ? thanks

on my keyboard/piano it is a drawbar organ/ rock organ

I think I read somewhere that it was Gwenyth's father's organ. That would make sense considering the meaning behind the song. Not sure exactly what type of organ though.

yeah i read that somewhere too, will have a look and see if i can find it

Here's a quote I found...

'Fix You'

"It's supposed to be a church organ but it isn't. In fact it's a keyboard that my father-in-law gave to Gwyneth my wife, and it sat in the house for ages and then I turned it on one day and it had these amazing sounds on it."

I'm sure you can get a decent emulation of it using a software synth like Native Instruments B4, or USB Charlie Retro. I've read some people complain about the sound of the organ in "Fix You". I guess you have to really put the lyrics into perspective about Gwenyth losing her father. It is absolutely brilliant how Chris could take something so tragic and create something so poignant and beautiful for her. "I will try to fix you." Truly a heartfelt line. Actually the whole song is genius...

When you try your best, but you don't succeed

When you get what you want, but not what you need

When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep

Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face

When you lose something you can't replace

When you love someone but it goes to waste

Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home

And ignite your bones

And I will try to fix you

When high up above or down below

When you're too in love to let it go

But if you never try you'll never know

Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home

And ignite your bones

And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face

When you lose something you cannot replace

Tears stream down your face

And I...

Tears stream down your face

I promise you I will learn from my mistakes

Tears stream down your face

And I...

Lights will guide you home

And ignite your bones

And I will try to fix you

in garageband, you use the jazz organ, that's the best one for the song. its almost perfect.

on my piano i tried imitating it with the "rock organ" voice and it sounded very similiar to the song... and i tried every other organ there is too :P

Hammond B3 organ like skinner alive said is pretty much the right type, and if not its probably the closest you'll get to Gwyneth's father's organ lol. I wonder how much that'd go for on eBay :stunned:

I believe it starts on some Rock/Jazz organ, but then clearly switches to a church organ of some sort. Later, of course, piano comes in to accompany the organ.
