And you would know because.....

I am close with many black friends Nick and I know from first hand accounts that you are fucking wrong here. Racism has just become more subtle. It's ugly head is still there, it's just under the surface of our national fabric.

I really didnt want to get involved in the racial aspect of this, I'm in the middle of a fairly political post and I refreshed to see this.

Nick are you sure the 30 or so kids in your class represents all of America?

And hey, even if you can say that black people are content on destroying themselves, it's only because white America has done this to them. When racism was basically abolished, they've colonised the black man, and not only have they done that, they put a gun shop and an off license in between every house in every black community, as well as failing to police these communities and letting drug dealers roam wild in them. It's a nice way to make them destroy themselves...

So Nick, if you see a black kid acting like a dick, dont think of it as being his fault, many generations have brought him up to this world (And yes, that includes the modern world which we live in).

those 30 kids are 100's throughout my years...i have about 8-10 differnet classes a year...so its not just based on that but hundreds of student. and alot of people from other schools see this aswell...so its not jsut one class but the many.

we put the blacks in this position. but we've given them a way out and most communitys havent taken it. its sad but true.

it is a kids fault if he acts as a "dick" its m fault aswell when i do...i dont beleive that at all....people need to take responsiblity for their actions and way of life. i have for me being a moron at school and getting bad grades...like i said i know black kids who try hard as hell who are poor and have sibliings in gangs and they take the blame when they fail and they are going places....they work hard and try hard and pay attention even though they come from teh same backgrounds as those who dont....

Re: d

racism is not nearly as strong as many would like to believe, i cant stand people who blame there problems on other things...take credit...we did a hell of alot of horrible things to the african americans....its a shame..but as of now alot of the problems are their own...they have a chance to fix their community's and lives...but choose not to and blame it on evil white people......

take credit for your problems....

how do they chose not to????? omg, you think they have the oportunity to live the american dream but they just chose not to???? common nick

overt racism existed for more than 200 years in america---u think in 30 years we have gotten rid of it???? NO---its just not as obvious

i live in Los Angeles which is a dominant hispanic and african american community-----I KNOW what we all go through----i see it in my family, i see it in my neighbors, i see it in my community and let me tell you something, nobody here chose to live in poverty and to live as poor as we do-----nobody prefers this style of living

ok before i start, im not racist..i have many black friends...but saying this....

my school the black kids and some white kids, and other races all goof around and dnot pay attention..i see it everyday in class they get bad grades and many fail out becaue their too busy being gangsta and cussing at teachers to learn. they are offered education but many dont take it...i have a poor black friend...trys hard as hell in school makes c's and b's...he's a great guy...he's going places...he's going to move out of the "ghetto" and maybe not be upper class but a hell alot better then his fellow black students....

my other black friend cedric who is quite poor, makes d's and a few c's, he gets in trouble the whole time and doesnt care...he's going to be stuck in the "ghetto" blaming the evil republicans for his problems....

in america for the most part they have chances to better their lives..but many live in ignoracne and blame the evil white republicans for problems, THEY CAN SOLVE...through hard work and paying attention at school...

i see this everyday. people join gangs and violence and crime...they do alot of this too themselves..thats why im a big fan of bill crobsy for sayign what he says...hes a good person for the black community to look up too. as long as these communities blame thier problems on the evil whites they wont go away, they as a whole can work together to better their lives and communities...will it happen? it hasnt yet.

you are right about this----it is true that most teenagers dont give a fuck about their education and stuff and majority people of color-------

but we get crappy teachers too, we get crappy schools that need reparations, if education was equal, then they would have never put that law (i forgot the name of it) that says that universities have to get a certain percent of color people admitance

i just dont feel like writing too much---but common nick---how can you be so blindly to not notice racism in our country-----its only been about 30 years when black people could not drink from the same fountain as white---u think it was all gone in 30 years?

atleast where i come from, i disagree..because ive made very bad choices im in classes with alot of african americans and other races...and most the teachers arent that bad...but they cant/wont teach due to the fact students wont behave and stup up so they can teach. thats a big issue kids dont pay attention and they creat so much problems we spend most the time listening to teachers yell at teh students then learn...in my school system atleast anyone can get a good teacher as long as you can do good enough and get into honors or AP classes. ive been in an honors and AP classes and the teachers are great and we learn alot...but thats only because those are kids in the class who care adn try to learn. so a black kid if he trys hard enough most of the time can get into these classes and learn alot...but the key is trying..and thats the problem with many lower class people, they dont try hard enough and blame their problems on others...

now for inner city schools where teh whole school is crappy well thats mainly the students fault...if they would be respectful and pay attention and not cause trouble. im saying all races in those schools, they could get a good school and learn more, but most dont care so the goverment and teachers dont either...why should we spend money on kids who dont care and wont try? when we can spend money on ones who do?

the goverment should help out and get students in those schools who try some money to go to a better school...every poor person who trys hard and works hard and cant make it even after that should get helped out.

racism is not gone, but its not nearly as bad as many would like to believe...

kids who wont shut up and act up in school has nothing to do with whether they are black, yellow, orange or purple.. thats all in the parenting.. in my honest opinion... if you are saying 'certain races' don't know how to act.. then thats a bit racist too, don't you think?

I know tons of black people...and its not as bad as people want it to seem.

its here, i never said it wasnt but not nearly as bad as it was...its at a all time low. and it getting lower as time goes on and as we learn to co-exist more and more...the south is still pretty racist...but as time goes on i think it wont be as racist.

Nick, go read my post on page 4. You'll see it.

I think I'll add my long post to this to make it gigantic :D

I havent really concentrated on any replies (Any political ones at least) but I'm going to write my general and vague view on what's gone on here. I wont be drawing any conclusions of my own because it seems a bit silly to at this stage. Remember, people wrote off President Bush for dealing poorly with September 11th and those same people are now defending his Homeland security ideals and believe strongly in what he's done.

But onto the Katrina crisis.

I dont think Congress passing the rather late emergency $10.5 Billion spending bill will help silence the critics. This was predicted about six years ago and widely circulated in every scientific magazine in the country. I know this Administration and many people on this board hate science and everything, but you are wrong if you think we were in the dark about what was going to happen. We knew New Orleans was going to have serious problems and we knew hurricane Katrina was going to kill a lot of people. FEMA and Bush are not bad people. However, they did a miserable job and it's just a point blank fact.

But is it just Bush's fault? It goes back even farther than just Bush's run. The federal gov. stopped providing money to N.O. to fix these problems a while back. They only had levis that were built for a level 3 storm. When this one hit it was maybe 5 when it blew through. This was bound to happen.

The levi thing is pretty nuts to me. I just think it's crazy that people have predicted this could happen, 30 years ago or more, it had been recognised to the local and federal gov. about the current levi system they had, but yet the government doesn't do anything about it, and now this disaster happens. It just goes to show you another example, that even though they are the most powerful nation, they have every resource one could need and we still clearly aren't safe.

To sum up the levi crisis: Over 30 years to acknowledge that New Orleans could not deal with a Level 4 or 5 hurricane. Then, 6-8 years of prediction that a gigantic hurricane will hit New Orleans in 2005. This could have been dealt with, within a budget of a quarter of a billion dollars, and now we are looking at thousands dead, over 10 billion in aid spent (As well as the donations which is screwing up the economy, on top of the hurricane crisis itself which is leaving oil to just about stabilise the world's economy, its been a true disaster).

Bush and FEMA could've done a much better job evacuating people BEFORE Katrina even hit. We knew this was going to be a devastating hurricane. We didn't have to wait several days after the fact to understand what Katrina was. That's fucking bullshit if I ever heard it.

But, when developments were going on, they started 36 hrous before hand when they realized the Hurricane has changed paths and was heading somewhere else. It was thought to be staying in Florida. Even when they realized it's real path, it changed slightly again! Which is really, nuts. If you know about that sort of thing, its either crazily unlucky or a bit suspicious (As in, bullshit excuse). Apparently, there was nothing more they could have done and when they finally knew where it was headed they announced a mandatory evacuation. I dont know whether this is true or not, but thats apparently how it went down.

If it was true though, what exactly else were they suppose to do? It is not like the damn thing was on a track and was going to head for wherever and they were 100%. There is no way they could have predicted exactly where it was going to go after it hit land the first time. I dunno though, seems pretty suspicious to me.

It appears they knew the hurricane would hit over a week before it did. Of course there were periods where they felt it might not hit but if you were watching the news at all during those two weeks, as well the last few days, you would've known that it was going to hit New Orleans. If I can know by watching TV then so can Bush. Was there any preparation? None, at all. That is most insane to me.

It was predicted to head over to Pensacola at one point. It changed. They had 36 hours and it was still impossible to know exactly where the strongest part would hit and they were wrong. I know enough about hurricanes to know that a great deal of the time they are not always right about the path, but to this extent? Im still suspicious.

If I were to accept this story of events they still are wrong. That means Bush had 36 hours where he could've done something, anything, but did nothing.

So about the levees in N.O. were built for a grade 3 hurricane. About 30 years ago someone in Congress suggest that we spend some serious money on New Orleans, including some plans to move the Mississippi, but none of these were taken seriously. Read Scientific America from 2001 about this. Very interesting stuff. They could've done something about it. Bush just didn't want to spend any money. Its a big blame on his shoulders, I admit.

Well, he is taking it all for this, why is President Bush being blamed for the levee problems? Like I said, the issue of the levee has been brought up several times over the last 30 years. And many of our past presidents including former President Bill Clinton chose not to reenforce it. But I suppose now it is all President Bush's fault because he made the same decisions that many president's before him did. The haters of President Bush are out in full force and are in rare form on this. Any thing and absolutely any thing to pick him apart and they pounce on it. It is absoultely and positively ridiculous to place 100% blame on President Bush for not fixing the levees. At best he should share the blame with the past Presidents of the last 30 years. Haha I hope Nick enjoyed that paragraph.

BUT- Bush definately did have at least a 4 year warning to attempt to raise the levee's and the other preparation issues, a 4 year warning which included in great details how and when the hurricane will hit New Orleans. This was 2001, but many months before 9/11. Bill Clinton did acknowledge at this time that he was worrying about New Orleans, as did, just about EVERYONE, but President Bush. He quashed any danger by simply ignoring it.

Then, they had a fortnight in which they were given an actual date and time, yes, date and time, in which the hurricane would hit. Absolutely no preparation was taken, they could've went to the heights of evacuating people well before it was hit.

Now, breathe in and take into account that as that fortnight went by the pressure to do something got tighter, day by day, hour by hour, and nothing was done. But lets move on...

According to the Bush administration, they had 'approximately "only" 36 hours to act, which simply wasnt enough time' (-enough time, to do anything? Anything at all? Not even prepare some pick up trucks with water on the back?) despite the fact this contradicts just about every news source that isn't Fox. Anywho...

With 36 hours, they didnt do anything. This is a fact. They not only fumbled with their thumbs for 30 years, not even for 4 years, not for a fortnight, but 36 hours before they definite hurricane would strike, they still, sat back and did, absolutely nothing.

This was the biggest hurricane in the history of America, we did have warning it was going to hit, and we didn't take the proper precautions to take care of it. Bush could've moved military and aid units much, much earlier. That's a fact.

I hope Bush is having a nice holiday though. It's sunny in them parts.

what happened to my father and his father has not affect on me and how hard i try in school....they have an oppertunity to better themselves they can live in the past and blame what we did to them on them not going anywhere or try hard and learn. i never said A student. like my good friend who's black and poor, Rodney he knows what his history is but works hard in school and does his best and gets c's and b's at best...but he's a hard worker and is going places...he didnt blame his problems on his past or racism and has overcome alot of them....

you can rise above your surrounding and change if you really want to. or you can blame others and not..its up to them....its up to me to try hard and do it..for the most part its up to you to make decisions and try hard...it always doesnt make life better but its a hell alot more likely too.

kids who wont shut up and act up in school has nothing to do with whether they are black' date=' yellow, orange or purple.. thats all in the parenting.. in my honest opinion... if you are saying 'certain races' don't know how to act.. then thats a bit racist too, don't you think?[/quote']

I dont agree with many of the things he's said, but Nick is not being racist if black people genuinely are, generally, a bad part of society. Its unfair to say so.

Reilly, some of Nick's comments have bordered on intolerance. If he had said something like he said on page 2 around some of my friends. I would hate to see what would happen.

my goodness...im intolerant because i said they wont better themselvse when they can? crying out loud...they can work hard and do better as a whole or stay the way they are....

we put the blacks in this position. but we've given them a way out and most communitys havent taken it. its sad but true. [/quote

Nick that is one, very special kid. How the hell can you expect every black person who was raised in an oppressed society to turn it around? The majority of them are bound to be rebellious against the system that has beat them down socially.

Many kids are living in situations where they cant even go home and study. Think about that.

I know! I completely agree.

But lets take an example, if you live around, Greek people ( :D ) and every Greek person you meet is an absolute asshole, obviously you will hate Greek people.

Hmm on reflection Nick IS being racist. Whether he has the right to, Im not even stepping into that...

im not being a racist...im saying alot of these things ABOUT MY OWN FRIENDS....people i care about....many of which ARE black..

not what im saying...all races do that....but when alot of times when a black person does that and fails they blame their problems on white people. when alot of white people do it from what ive seen they dont have a reason to blame it on race or poverty but they alot of time find someone to blame it on.

this comment right here..... bugs me..

you're generalizing, love. Thats not true... (in all cases) but as lilchick stated... I guarantee you.. the textbooks they have in an innercity school, where probably handed down from some rich prep school from 4 years ago. How is that fair?? And how can they not complain. No one said that the white man is the devil and what not. lol I don't thinl either is higher than the other... its society and comment like the one you posted.. that spark that type of reaction..

its all just a bit to coincidental if you ask me. Coincidence how AFTER Kanye made those comments.. they authorities wer able to evacuate the entire lot of the Superdome.. in one fucking day..... those people waited 5 days before any water was even dropped to them.. (those stuck in houses)

their not an oppressed society anymore...they have oppertunitys to better themselves...i said that if try hard and work hard and still cant do better, then the goverment should help them out....but those who do not try and dont care like many shouldnt get shit.....you can make decisions for yourself for the most part if your going to try hard and care or not....

how can they not go home and study?

im not being a racist...im saying alot of these things ABOUT MY OWN FRIENDS....people i care about....many of which ARE black..

What kind of background do you think these minority kids live in after their families have been oppressed since the dawn of time?

The police arent policing these communities. They are still oppressed.

Hell Nick, Im sorry, I was going to repeat myself again but its just not worth it man.

Nick, you are sheltered. You have been raised in a conservative sheltered world. You have NO RIGHT to talk about racism when you haven't even worked a fucking job or dealt with adults in the real world on a daily basis. You really need to watch your step Nick. Your views are liable to get your head knocked off if you don't watch it. Unitl you have lived in the rat race you can;t say shit about racism. All you know is what you see in front of you. Expand your views, expand your mind.

the've only been oppresed a few hundred years....they are not oppressed now...they have problems with crime..yes...but they can overcome that if they try hard enough...

the jewish race has been hated for a long long time, and they've for the most part atleast in israel have overcome it...they looked past their background.

what we did to african americans was horrible..truly evil...
