Guitarist Jonny Buckland and front man Chris Martin have a laugh during "Yellow" early in the set. The band played a variety of songs from their three albums including a Johnny Cash cover.

From the moment front man Chris Martin bounced to the front of the stage Saturday night, the energy level only increased at Alltel Pavilion. Paired with an amazing light show, Coldplay rocked through a set list jammed with old favorites and new songs from X&Y.

Nothing can be worse than dropping $50 on a ticket only to see the artist mope around on stage, think they are a total badass and never acknowledge the audience. Coldplay made the audience it's fifth member with it's sing-a-long version of the "The Scientist" and even singing Happy Birthday to guitarist Jonny Buckland.

During a remarkable version of "In My Place," Martin made a dash from the stage into the audience, giving out high fives as he sang from atop a railing in the middle of the amphitheater.

Martin was not the only member beaming with energy. Drummer Will Champion beat his drums like they owed him money every song. Champion even hopped up from behind his kit to play piano on an acoustic mini-Johnny Cash tribute which included "'Til Kingdom Come," "Ring of Fire" and "Don't Panic."

If guitarist Jonny Buckland wasn't reeling off one of Coldplay's classic riffs, he was snickering at Martin as he ran around the stage like a madman. Bassist Guy Berryman kept to himself until he accompanied "'Til Kingdom Come" with his harmonica.

A video screen spanned across the entire stage projecting images of everything from a confused bear, a massive digital clock, explosions and even the crowd made several appearances. During the classic, "Yellow," dozens of giant yellow balloons drifted down from the rafters. A few made their way onto the stage as the rest exploded sending confetti raining down on the crowd.

If the main set list wasn't enough, the encore put the show over the top. Starting off with "Swallowed by the Sea," Martin and his band mates were splashed with black and white images of a set list scribbled on a piece of paper. "In My Place" was next and this was probably the pinnacle of the show. While Martin stood in the middle of a horde of around 20,000 the crowd took over the chorus of "Yeah, how long must you wait for?"

If that still wasn't enough, the band topped off the evening with "Fix You." Accompanied by a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling, the band eased its way into the booming chorus that led the night to a close.

The crowd was all smiles as they were on their feet from "Square One" and probably never sat until they got to their cars.
