Coldplay Get Single Push In Forensics Cop Show CSI

Featured Replies

NEW YORK - Coldplay are to be promoted in an innovative cross-promotional deal, in which one of the songs from their platinum-selling 'X&Y' album is played on a character's mobile phone in the hit crime drama 'CSI: NY'.

During the episode, detective Danny Messer is investigating a cold case, pun probably intended, when his phone rings to the sound of Coldplay's song 'Talk'.

The US TV promotion, between CBS and Capitol Records, then offers viewers the chance to download the song to their phones, taking product placement to the next level. The ringtone will be available via a deal with a US cellular network and CBS.com.

It does not end there. Later in the episode, 'Talk' serves as background music. The promotion is believed to be a first for the music industry and, if successful, stars in other TV shows are likely to have their phones ringing with the latest songs from the Billboard 100.

In going with Coldplay, Capitol have gone for an easy first time out. 'X&Y' shot to number one around the world, with the platinum-selling album racking up sales of 7.5m, with 2.3m copies sold in the US alone.

Earlier this year, Capitol signed a deal with US mobile phone Cingular to release a 30-second ringtone of another track from 'X&Y', 'Speed of Sound', as a ringtone before it was heard anywhere else.

Coldplay were one of the first bands to sign up to the new music programme that sees fans offered ringtones of forthcoming singles before they are available to buy or download in full.

does anyone know when it will air?

Maybe someone from this forum is so nice to record the scenes on HDD and share it with us, that would be really cool.

Coldplay - always the innovators...

So maybe this is the only time I'll actually want to watch CSI. No offense to the show, but I've never been an evening tellyshow person. But to add a touch of Coldplay? I'm there. woot!

I thought this was the type of thing they said they'd never do.... :/

But hey, its still cool!!! I've quite liked CSI when i've seen it so i'll have to tune it to this episode for sure! :)

Hey, it's just a ringtone special. I heard a clip of Clocks during a football game the other day. I don't think it's breaking any of their missionary rules. ;)

No, what they'll never do is advertise in commercials their music or themselves. They've said that they think their songs in movies and tv shows are "quite cool" :D

Thanks for the info! I'm definitely buying the ring tone when it comes out.. :happy2:

If I had a cell phone, I'd buy it. :)

If I had a cell phone' date=' I'd buy it. :)[/quote']

I commend people who deviate from mainstream society. :D Seriously, that's awesome! You're probably healthier than the rest of us. ;)

Haha, thanks...

wow ure really negative..

Haha, so now not only will just about everyone I know be able to say "Ooh, I love The Who! They sing that CSI theme song right!" but they'll be able to add "And I like that Coldplay band! Weren't they on that show too!"
