why do movies make people think things are cooler?

Featured Replies

ever notice how turning something into a movie always makes it cooler? people who liked x-men were always the biggest nerds ever until they made a movie out of that. and what percentage of the audience for the lord of the rings movies actually read the and liked them before they knew about the movies? (i did, but that's beside the point :P) and let's not even get started with spiderman...

ok, rant over. :D

I haven't seen any of the three movies you mentioned there right to the end :D

well maybe it's an american thing then, because spiderman was the hottest shit ever last year. and the only people i've met who had read the lord of the rings trilogy before they got hyped over the movie are either my dad or college professors. but i've talked to a few englanders who have read them. so who knows?

well I've played The Hobbit computer game if that counts :D

I'm not really much of a cinemagoer so its not just an american thing

You haven't seen Lord of the Rings Ian??

I never saw Spiderman...but i heard it was bad..

i liked spiderman! it was so nice, i saw it twice! lol.

i have yet to see lord of the rings, but yeah. that is true that things become cooler once hollywood gets a hold of it!

i know what you mean. all the media hype makes me sick! ahhhh! and i can't stand product placements. can't we just watch the movie without subtle ads being put in trying to make us buy things we don't need and have never wanted before?

Never seen any of these films. I have Lord of the Rings on VCD but I don't wanna watch it. It's the same with Titanic. I boycott the hype :P

omg i know exactly what you mean!! before LOTR came out, i had to go through hell to find 'the silmarillion'. and then the movie came out and suddenly, the book was everywhere!

Ok...spiderman sucked. Lord of the Rings was amazing. Don't know about X-Men. But when you think about it, really once everything goes into a movie, then its all really cool and everyone wants to do it. Like take Half Baked for example, that movie was hilarious, but after that, a whole bunch of people I know got all into weed. That movie made it even more the 'cooler'. It always happens.

the title of the thread should have been "Why do movies make people think sci-fi is cool?"

star trek films still give the nerd image while star wars gives cooler than ice
