Aids

Featured Replies

i've never read a thread about it and i thought i would be a good idea

It's one of the biggest problems in the world right now, sadly, because it's easy to prevent. A little piece of latex and sterile syringes would save an incredible amount of people, and still there isn't conscience around to use them. It makes me sad.

Agreed. Even though the HIV/AIDS epidemic affects millions of people everyday, it is a taboo topic that no one likes to discuss. Here is an informative site if anyone wants to learn more: http://www.avert.org/statindx.htm

yeah, well, but if people want to have sex you can't stop them, so it's better that they're well informed. I read about it somewhere, condoms have a 1% chance of 'malfunction', but still, the posibilities of getting aids using a condom are extremely low because the amount of virus in the fluids that could be exchanged is not enough to infect...i think

It's a shame that people don't discuss such a serious matter as HIV/AIDS, it is because of that lack of debate or information that more people get infected.

but still, the posibilities of getting aids using a condom are extremely low because the amount of virus in the fluids that could be exchanged is not enough to infect...i think

well seeing how you can get infected from the needle of syringe that was used by an infected person, even the slightest amount of fluid exchange can carry the virus...

Well I think that a monster that is killing millions...from ingorance or being passed on from hiv+ mother to child, should be openly discussed.

that happens because by using an infected needle you're injecting any viral load into your body...still,almost no one gets infected by doing it one time (not that i'm defending it).

in an infected person every fluid carries the virus, but depending in the viral load it can be contagious or not (for example, kissing someone infected with HIV/AIDS can't infect, because the virus in saliva is not enough)

^ Interesting...I didn't know that. HIV/AIDs is definitely something I should take the time to learn more about...

Well, that is true, about the kissing, kissing does not give it to you. It is an STD...sexually transmitted disease...as in have sex with someone who is hiv+ and you can POSSIBLY get it. True that it may not be with just ONE time. But why risk it...abstinance ya'll, then you can avoid painful consequences...don't trust man made materials (condoms) against something deadly and incurable.

i had to do a paper for school about stds and i learnt a lot of stuff about it. Besides being a really important subjet for evreybody to talk about, it's really interesting.

I had to do a few small projects on it too, in high school. But I don't know too much about it to get into like, timy tiny details. If it is something that interests you, and I can see it is, learn as much as you can. Then put in your part to change things in this world..you know, talk to people about it...kinda like you are doing now :)

There is a lot of myths about Aids. There is a lot of disinformation.

One of the sadest part of Aids is when kids get contagious!!!

I know, like innocent little babies who only get it out of the misfortune of having hiv+ parents! It is so very sad, because they don't even know what it is

this debate is really interesting, but i should really go to bed, continue with it and i'll check it out tomorow

bye everyone!

One of the problems is the lack of information ppl have... and other than that, in poor countries like the ones in Africa and even here in Brazil there should be a distribution of condoms and all...

Here we religion also plays a big part on taht coz because the country is still so religious and the religion is strong its not easy to just go and distribute condoms around...

Yeah, every culture...region had it's own standards set by religions. So sometimes they try to keep useful information hushed up and then people remain ignorant until someone dies or something. IT is so very difficult to bring this issue out to places like that (i.e...in Brazil, where religion plays a key factor), because people just keep trying and trying to keep it hidden.

What to do?

g'night maiu. hope this thread stays alive so this discussion can be carried on.

The church does not help a lot , his point is that it cannot yield against his credence.

But not the whole fault is of the church, we also have something of fault. If the youth was not so mixed up

Also a good point, Alfredo. It is just so difficult to persuade the youth to reform from that sort of temptation, or in the very least, get tested (both partners) before sex. And if not that...in the VERY LEAST get protected!

It is, i just feel so bad when kids have sex at 14,15 or even younger... i mean , they're not emotionally ready for sex and most arent even well-informed about the risk they're taking and its a shame cos some parents let them live that way or dont talk to them.I think dialogue between parent and children is very important to prevent this. Maybe i'm sounding very old fashioned but i dont understand the rush to do it,they miss one beautiful stage in their life that is childhood and have to deal with adult problems and i dont even want to think how it will be 10 years from now but i trust that if i ever have a child and become a father ,i'll do my best to instill the right values to my child and have an open dialogue always, that's the way i was raised and i know i sound uber conservative but oh well, its just my opinion.

For the church it is difficult, because if it yields in this, further the people are going to want that it yields in other things

No No...not old fashioned....just very wise, and this should be a more popular view...communication is key when it comes to this. Little kids are just running wild, younger than ever doing things they don't even understand; much less have the wisdom to undertake consequences for.

I wish more people thought that way. I feel like ...wrong, in this society, when i spread that opinion around.
