What can we really believe?

Featured Replies

Just thinking about the Mohammed cartoons, and 9/11, and a lot of other things that we rely on the media to show us...

What can we really believe?

Sometimes I feel like giving up and not having an opinion on anything, because you cant rely on anyone to report you anything unbiased. It's not the media's fault, but it's simply something that cant be controlled. In the same way if every nice person on this forum was to report the news, we wouldnt be able to help reporting the interesting stuff such as the Muslim protestors threatening to blow up most of Europe, and focussing less on how some Muslim representatives express how these violent protestors are the result of the anger of a minority of insane people within their religion.

It always pisses me off when I have a strong view and then find another source that contradicts my view completely.

I hope in the next life we have the unlimited answer to everything, every piece of information and absolute truth, that has happened in this life. That is the only way I can imagine us being sure on things, because really, in this world you have to rely on how people see's things, and everything is interepreted differently, its natural.

Some places are less biased than others....Channel 4 news is really good for instance.

In newspapers....I think they're all biased.

I do prefer Channel 4, well done.

But still, saying 'Less biased', it's not really good enough for me. I feel like any kind of bias, even a natural, un-stoppable bias that every human is built with (And therefore the media machine thats built by humans) is screwing up how I see everything, and thats unfair.

I dont think the idea of something or anyone being 'unbiased' actually exists. Everything is biased, it cant be helped.

Its a good point, Reilly...and an obvious one-Everyone is built with Bias.

There is no way to avoid it, we base are opinions on the Media, mainly. Thus, are opinions are based on the information we receive from the media. Then again, a lot of news stories are told to you, as they happen...ie they are the whole truth. Yeah, im just waffling now. :smug:

doesn't it all come down to one's own interpetation????

But your interpetating what you see/read in the media, mostly.

exactly....

you and I can read the same article, right? But based on our own influences and knowledge on the matter.. we may both interpet the article differently.... I think this is the beauty of the mind and us as human beings.. quite remarkable really.

The remarkable imagination of the human being is exactly what pisses me off, I wish we were simpler creatures that just understood things as they are.

You can take any news item, ever, and it can be seen a thousand different ways. Right down to Dick Cheney shooting his friend.

Y'see how I worded that? 'Shooting his friend'. Already, changes things...

 I wonder if they are friends lol because the media sure hasn't posed it that way, all they say is that the man is a Republican Attorney. lol

thats another crazy story :stunned:

I trust the BBC for my news sorce... News Corp is owned my Rupert Mordoch who is a right winger. Despite claims his Networks are unbaist I dont trust their spin on stories...

I watched 2 news reports pretty much at the same time once, about Honur killings... the spin sky put on it was one that would possibly turn their auidence agaisnt Muslims, the one from the BBC was to show more understanding in this area.

His news stories will always Alienate the Muslims if u ask me...

i'd like to think that all news reported is unbias but thats obviously untrue as like you've already said, everyone will be biased ...

the only way you can truly know what happened is by actually witnessing it

but then the story would be how YOU SEE it... its like when 2 people have agument, they will always tell the story on how they see and feel it

the only way you can truly know what happened is by actually witnessing it

I agree there with you Nige....................I think you always have to look at the "side" of the news source.....I mean...which political side etc.....all these things are really objectiv......you can't trust in the media........to take a little example it is the same when we had a bit trouble in out childhood.....when somebody asked what happened....everybody told something else!Maybe you can call this objectiv or interpreting..........

i believe only in those things in which i want to believe...50% of what you watch on your TV is lie

Yeah..............and if I think about the cheesy press.....uhhh.....holy shit.....for example the "Bild" in Germany (you can compare to the sun I think).......they always have those headlines....like during olympia now...........at saturday when german won two gold medals they wrote:"Yeah we are soo great.....we are the best and bla...." and on sunday we didn't win anything.....I didn't read Bild then but I'm sure they wrote then:"Oh no....Olympic games.....we are sooo bad etc...."............but this is what most of the readers want.......that's why they buy it.......that's the fault of society!
