Eternal Happiness

Featured Replies

Does not exist.

This is an opinion, not a question, but you can respond disagreeing of course.

How can anyone be happy, consistently, all the time, for anything more then a week? There are times when we are frustrated, angry, sad, bored (Boredom is a MAJOR depression which doesnt get noticed).

Superficial Happiness:

Happiness is only a measure of the sadness you felt before it. Nobody is happy all day long. The novelty of doing anything eventually wears off, just like playing the new playstation game or getting smacked up and doing lines off a crackho.

True Happiness:

Is only achieved when you have worked very hard for it. Like losing weight or passing an exam, you feel brilliant after it. Why is that? Because you had a shit time in the name of getting further and better in life, and now it feels like happiness.

There is no such thing as happiness, you feel better after a bad time and bad after a good time.

Its the main reason I dont believe in the concept of heaven.

I can only say that I'm totally agree with it.

Does not exist.

True, so some extent.

I'm under the belief that you can't have happiness without sadness.

However, you can have eternal peace, which is different than eternal happiness. Its more of contentness.

I think sadness is happiness in a way.

Well not really sadness, more like annoyance.

Problems in life present you with something interesting, challenging and something that fights boredom.

What I am saying is that I would probably feel happy in the middle of studying for an exam or exercising to lose wieght because it means that i can get over that problem and a new one will present itself soon enough. This may just be me.

Of course a lot of problems are not good and don't make you happy, but a lot do. At least that is my opinion.

Your lucky to have that kind of attitude Sam

Surely happiness is not eternal....I never doubted that....although many people think that in particualr situations.....

But from one minute to the other it can change everyday....

And if you were happy your whole life.....then I would start thinking at one point....because this can't be natural.....

and maybe it would become a big problem in your life.....

even as you said....it can't last for one week.....no....maybe there are points in your life.....at a day.......where you don't even realise that you are sad....or depressive...or NOT happy.....

Niot being happy is for me not the same as being sad.....

Not being happy means for me that you are between sadness and happiness.....maybe like this:

Yeah I see what you mean.

It just makes me question the afterlife and how we could possibly live in Eternal happiness.

True, so some extent.

Yes there would no be happiness without sadness... there's nothing wrong with being sad its just about having and equilibrium between all the emotions in life I think. The eternal happiness in the afterlife just seem so wicked to me, no other feelings, no emotion basically: death! Biblic Heaven seems seriously a very boring place to me.

Reilly, you sound like Lemony Snicket.

And there is such a thing as eternal happiness. It's called nirvana (bliss). Of course, few people attain it, and definitely nobody who listens to Coldplay.

what about eternal depression!!??

^ That ends in death. Because only then does the soul stop suffering. :P
