OK imagination the situation:

 

You have spent the last 30-40 years of your life getting completely fucked on every drug imaginable (as I probably will) and suddenly, around the retiring age, you start to realise that physically you are fucked, and mentally, you realise that those drugs are going to make you lose your mind. You will no doubt be in a vegititive state for the next 20 years until you finally die.

 

Would you shoot yourself?

 

Im sure I would, probably much earlier. I know its unhealthy for any person to seriously consider suicide at any time, but that, for me, is the one exception.

 

I dont even want to live much past 50, I dont think Thompson did either. It would pretty much come down to whether I had a family, kids and wife, that loved me too much. If I didnt, then that would be the end.

When put like that, I can understand it (and usually I really try not to sympathize towards suicide, for my own sake). My only qualm would be that Gonzo really did some amazing things in his life time, he became such a figure for so many people. I think he earned his way out of this world. But just fucking yourself up, not giving anything back to the world, then just killing yourself... To me that's sort of a waste.

 

 

So I guess if you earn your way out, while getting fucked up, well... Sure. I wouldn't do it, because I don't plan to mess around in drugs or alcohol or partying or any of that sort of lifestyle. I've definately got my eyes set on another road.

 

 

The whole thing really should change, though, if you have a family. Then it's not just you killing yourself, but a part of those people. That's just wrong.

Yes I think that I would,the thought of living in a vegetive state is not worth thinking about.

I like Reilleys threads. They actually have some actual thought behind them and are not just stupid threads about wooo i made 100 posts or something dumb like that.

I wouldn't mind if it was one every now and again, but there are about 10 just on the first page! And they always start off with an innocent "OK what do you think" opening comment, but all end up with him attacking people for their opinions.

He has a habit of laying into me just for posting in a style he doesn't "approve" of, which shows incredible arrogance IMO.

Yeah I glanced over that. I didn't miss the fact that even in debateable topics he doesn't create he insists on taking over without actually bringing anything new to the conversation, and instead repeating what people had said earlier, if only he'd bothered to actually read it
