Barbaro

Featured Replies

I was surprised that no one started a thread about this amazing colt.

But now that I think about, people on this board aren't really into the racing side of the horse industry.

I was just curious to see what everyone's thoughts were about Barbaro. He was a triple crown contender who won the Kentuckey Derby and was trying to win the Preakness when he took a bad step and broke 3 bones in his leg (the cannon, pastern, and part of his ankle-femis or something like that- I can't remember. haha It's been a long time since I looked at a horse's anatomy.). He underwent about 5 hours of surgery in New Bolton, PA, and had a steel plate inserted with 23 screw to keep his right hind leg together.

An amazing story. But he's not in the clear yet. Hopefully things will work out. :)

Yeah' date=' I saw this on the news this morning. Hope he feels better and can win again![/quote']

Sadly, he most likey won't ever race again. :embarassed:

But he is such a beautiful animal. And hopefully he'll be able to reproduce and spend some time in the pasture. He deserves that much. ;)

This is him after the surgery, getting out of the pool to prevent further injury.

He looks a bit better here. haha

Barbaro is an absolutely GORGEOUS creature. I pray that they don't have to put him down, it would be such a shame.

I just hope he can recover enough to live a peaceful life, maybe become a stud. Hell, not a bad life ;)

is he dead yet?? They said he has a 50/50 chance of survival..... I felt so bad for him... :( I hope he makes it. Sad he'll never get to race again though... maybe thats a good thing.

No he's not dead. :o

I just read that he is doing better then yesterday. I'm hoping this will be a new trend and something bad doesn't happen in the coming days.

You guys are aware that the only reason he's undergone all this surgery and whatnot is so that his owners can eventually make millions of dollars in stud fees, right? It has nothing to do with saving the life of a beautiful animal. If he was any other horse, they'd have put him down right where he broke his ankles.

Call me cynical, but I'm not half as much as that poor animal's owners.

That said, he's still a living creature, so I hope he's ok eventually. He had his surgery and is recovering at a place that's about a 10 minute drive from where I used to live as a kid. That's kinda cool, I guess.

:shocked2: Prof.Peed!!!!! You have made an appearance!!!! Bless!

Sad but true...... poor thing is going to be pimped out for his noonads!

Sure that may be a motive but even if he wasn't going to be a colt, I'm sure he'd be saved. If my horse (If I had a horse... :dozey: haha) would have broken his leg, I would have tried to save him. Simple as that. Even with the knowledge that I may not be able to ride him again.

But I think with the people who own him and the trainer, they'd take the life of the horse over little Barbaros. If the horse is in no pain, then why not try and allow him to have a little more time to enjoy just being a horse?

I'm sorry to say, and I don't want to come off sounding snobbish or anything like that, I just don't like when people automatically assume that he is just going to reproduce. Who says he will be able to even to do that with his leg. I'm sure it's pretty tough being a horse and trying to uhhh reproduce. ;)

He seems to be getting better. And he is a beautiful horse... amazing markings and colorings.

I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT THIS WITH MY FRIEND!!!! It's so true, but man, I hope he's ok. It was painful watching him hop off the track.

P.S. I love horses.

P.P.S. PEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah this was on the news in the UK. It seems the horse is in the hands of some pretty competent people.

going to be pimped out for his noonads!
going to be what for his what?! :stunned::huh:

Sounds a bit like the Seabiscuit story. That was a great film!:)

they're going to squeeze out his mojo from his hoohoo and use it to produce more little Barboro's... :wink3:

They don't even know if he'll be able to do his 'deed' on his own.. so they just may be looking into squeezing his hoohoo. :stunned:

Could you be a little more explicit??

wasn't that censored enough for you?? :P

No - quite the contrary, in fact. It was censored so much that nobody has the slightest idea what you're on about!!:laugh3:

I love how ESPN won't even post an article about him anymore.

Makes me freaking sick how all they care about is the injury and if he is going to live or die, but when they know that he has good chance of surviving, then they go back to baseball and basketball.

I know there are more pressing issues then this, but they can atleast give you an update.

This is why I hate ESPN.

It's pretty much the same with ALL news sources. Today's news is tomorrow's fish and chips paper!!
