we're on our way into inflation and a major trough in the macroeconomic spectrum. i just pray that when i graduate from college there will still BE a job market...

Im quite sane. and our economy is not doing that bad.

Not to pick a fight or anything, but if you think the US economy's soooo great, what do you do for a living that is so profitable...I'm guessing it's not a minimum wage job by which you have to support a home and family...

If I'm wrong, I'll eat dirt...or crow...or my own words, but minimum wagers I hnow in the states, and even people I know making a so-called 'good living' are struggling...and then there's the afore-mentioned DOW...etc. etc...

I dont have a official job, i hustle for a living. but i know plenty of people who are doing well because our economy is doing well. not for everyone, their will always be poor, but all in all our economy is doing good and not nearly as bad as the left would like everyone to believe. anyone who makes minimum wage will struggle NO MATTER how well our economy.

Y'know what? Although I don't agree entirely with you, I can respect what you do. I lived in the States for a year and a half with nothing to do for a living but busking...I'd give friends a few bucks to stay a night on their couch and make some toast n the morning, and in that regard, the US economy didn't really apply to me. But even a so-called respectable home-owning, 'ligitimate' haard-working American has it rough these days...just ask them!! Trying to make your way when you're 'off the Radar' is almost easier than doing the 9-5 with a family...

No, the legitimate home owner for the most part has it easy. specialy compared to most of the world. not every home owner, there are poor people as there will always be, but we have a large middle class doing just fine under the current economy. i know plenty of home owning 9-5 workers who are doing great. im about to go out and get a legititimage job next week, and do the "hustling" on the side. even though i doubt its real hustling since how i make the money is unorthodox but legal. although the new thing im doing might not so but im not sure.

I guess it all comes down to who you ask. Talk to 2 ppl with the same job, same life, same everything, and one will say it's great, one will say it's hell. It's all in a person's perception of their life, I guess...We have friends serving in the war and living in the US and we have completely different accounts of how things are from them...personally, I think the NYSE speaks for itself...but we don't have to listen...it's how you see the world...God I wish I'd come up wiht that line...

MAKE TRADE FAIR!!!

G'nite, and thanks for a good convo!

No' date=' because there are plenty of jobs out there.[/quote']

oh yes... plenty. Jobs that pay minimum wage and no benefits.. yes. tons.

in the right career fields there are plenty of jobs. we have a very low unemployment rate in america. with a college degree you can find many jobs, but thats not true for every area just like in every country. overall we doing well with our economy.

What does any of this have to do with the ban on gay marriage?

I would have to disagree....

But I'm really upset about this whole thing. It's a bit crazy. There's a reason for the separation of church and state. And we should leave it like that.

I'm sorry that I didn't back read....

I disagree that there are no jobs. There are plenty of jobs. Hell, I'm a 17-year-old kid and I've been offered three jobs that all pay $7.50/hr and above. To be unemployed is something someone can control.

However, our economy IS in the toilet. There's no way around that - the facts back it up.

lmfao, there was never any seperation of Church and State in this country. It's just something they spit out to shut us liberal queers up. Look at our dollar bill. Look at our pledge of allegiance. Look back to our Declaration of Independence. God is all over the place, if not directly referenced.

Not saying that it's right, what they're doing. But it's truly nothing new. It's just really REALLY blatantly obvious now.

Yes, but may I ask what you do at those jobs? Those jobs may be great for what education and experience you have but for a person who has an associate's degree in business or something to work at McDonald's is not a job. Being unemployed is something you can control but sometimes its something you can't control. I mean, its about many stupid things but I think people seem to lump together too much and fail to see the people who are trying to find jobs but can't find something they went to school for or are able to live off of instead having to depend on unemployment.

Just my opinion. I don't want to come across as to bashing your job. :\

Well I just think that Republicans and Liberals have called things out a bunch of times that its getting ridiculous. I just can't even stand the fact that Bush proposed this.

Honestly - the job market isn't really bad. It's just harder to get high-paying jobs. Many people I know have jobs where their degree is appreciated - it just doesn't pay a lot.

And for future reference, I work at movie theatre. Go me. =]

Sorry I'm off-topic here (but don't even get me started on the gay-marriage issue - I swear it'll make me kill myself one day). I just couldn't let this one go...

"there are poor people as there will always be, but we have a large middle class doing just fine under the current economy"... I love your thinking. So, the poor people will always be poor and we should do nothing about it? I'm not from America obviously, but do you realise that as your economy slides downwards, the proportion of 'middle class' people who were "doing just fine under the current economy" will decrease and the number of poor people will balloon upwards? Just by virtue of there being less number of jobs / lower-paying jobs now, those who were previously just about making it in the middle class will now drop into the poor category.

So no Nik, sorry for coming down so hard on this, but it is NOT ok to accept that there will always be poor people. Because when the economy is moving south, people will be hard hit and some who were previously doing ok will end up below the poverty line. Don't you realise when there are less jobs available (as is the current situation under the Bush administration) a) unemployment rates will go up; and b) available jobs will be lower paying? Your government should have an interest (ie in securing votes) as well as a social responsibility - to ensure as many of these 'poor people' get moved up from the poverty line as possible. It is not acceptable for the government n to just sit on it's ass and blame the unemployment rate on more competitive labour forces overseas as it seems to be currently doing... It needs to do something (or at least try) to help its people or else you might well see the great depression in the '20/30's happen all over again.

P.S. And thanks Kekita for the sweet compliment  It did catch me by surprise, I didn't think people noticed / it still mattered to people anymore. I'll join the gay marriage issue another day, it's late here today.

i live on planet earth in the real world. and realize in life there will ALWAYS BE poor people in EVERY nation NO MATTER what. its the way the world works. lucky for americans is our poor have it better them most of the world's middle class! not to mention they have a chance to become middle or upper class. i live in reality where i realize this is how the world works, kinda like their will always be war and death and disease.

PS our unemployment rate is very low. right now our economy is doing good, with lots of jobs. lots of bad paying jobs BUT many many good paying jobs open out there.

So, I guess we ought not upset the Status Quo then??? I've been homeless and hungry and allthough it's easier in North America, hungrer IS hunger no matter your domographic...just because it's less broken than other countries doesn't mean it doesn't need fixing.

Come visit Philadelphia or Reading one day and maybe you'll realize that what the politicians and statistics say aren't true.

And maybe if our minimum wage was raised, we wouldn't have families living below the poverty line. I think instead of accepting something, you should do something about it. Not just sit back and think that because it happens, it should be happening.
