Do you think Chris should release a solo album?

Featured Replies

There is a thought to ponder...eventually it will happen within 5 years...

Thom Yorke has done it, Dave Matthews too, and many others....

What do you think it will sound like? I think something along the lines of sleeping sun would be great....

I imagine it will be filled with collaborations, so who would you like to hear him sing with? Bono, Noel?

mhhh ...i thought about that after yorke's first solo record

it wouldn't sound a lot like coldplay i guess ... no great guitar riffs and all that but prolly a lot with the piano and perhaps one or two collaborations ... (but not with bono ... perhaps some unknown young artists)

i expect songs like ... A Ghost or 2000 Miles ... very piano-based

I don't think so...

Ok Chris is a good singer, guitarist and pianist...

Well, Coldplay without Chris, it's like a car without wheels...

I mean Chris is as important as Jonny, Will and Guy!!!

For me they are One...not 4 guys, but One...

You're missing the point....it's not that Chris is leaving Coldplay and they will need to replace him. Lead singers do solo albums and return to their bands all the time. See examples above. No one is saying that Chris is more important than anyone else, relax.

It's just a discussion, and a solo album is inevitable...it's just a matter of time. In many cases, it gives the artist another outlet to be creative outside of "the band" and it could be good for Coldplay in the long run.

why not?

it'd be cool. heh. something like see you soon would rock. :stunned:

i'll definitely buy it.

but yeah, not for now.

i cant actually imagine chris works alone.

i mean without guy will and jonny.

I don't like that idea :\

I hope chris doing solo-songs (like with nelly furtado, kanye west) will be the closest Chris comes to going solo...

I don't think Chris would dump his friends, I know they wont have to split up just because Chris would go solo but after all I think that would make coldplay more insecure. Will, Guy and Jonny would probably feel dumped...I would if I would have been them...

Chris can get great ideas so effortlessly, his problem is that he doesn't seem to recognize what will sound good with a bit of work without help. I think he would go a little nutty without other musicians to collaborate with.

I think if he did try something solo, it would sound like Coldplay stuff, just because everything he writes ends up that way, but all the interesting little things like some of Guy's great artsy bass lines would be missing.

Not a good idea.

NO NO NO!!! not ever!!! nope. non. nar. nooooooo!! dont!!

I really hope he'll never do that.. I can imagine him doing collaborations like he already does, but I can't imagine him standing alone on a stage, doing solo songs.. To me, Chris isn't just a singer, he's part of a band..

I have to admit that I thought about it to when hearing that Thom Yorke releases a solo album, but.. Can you imagine Bono doing a solo album? I can't! And I can't imagine Chris singing solo either..

Yeah I don't think Chris will make a solo album. They agreed it was a team effort right from the start when they made the band. I have a feeling he never will

No as it stands some people don't realise Coldplay is made up of 4 band members and not just Chris Martin.

Actually, in that case I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference to them! Ha!

No, there was another singer (Well probs a few) that did that and I really hated it. Thats just my past experiences and opinion but I think he should stay with Coldplay...forever! :P

I think that'd make a great cd...Chris excellent singer, I adore piano...

As long as these two things are involved, I'm buying it.

it would be great music and he has an awesome voice but i don't think it would be the same without wil, guy and jonny, it doesn't really work they can do amazing things together, don't get me wrong, i don't think chris will go solo

Of course they should stay 2gether...but Chris should also release it. Like a hobby...:)

ummm, i dunno. i think it would be great for him to do and all, but i think he should definitely check with the band first. if i were jonny or guy or will and chris just did it, i think id get really really mad. and id totally totally buy it and probably really like it, but theres no way it would ever be as good without the whole band's input.

i think he might do it, but i dont really think its enevitable. and personally, i think that putting out a solo album makes that soloist sound more important than the rest of the band to lots of people, especially reporters and crtitics, kind of an "oh look at me do it all by myself" sort of thing (not that they mean to or want to or anything, thats just an impression that some people get), and i think that chris is so concerned about the other members of the band getting as much credit as he does that he wouldnt put out a solo record for several more years now, if they continue on this same path without their popularity waning. then he'd do it i think, or be more likely to.

so i dunno if he should or not, all i know is that id buy it either way.

I don't see a point. Some people don't even recognize Coldplay as a band. People have that 'Chris Martin and Co' mentality.

When you listen to a Coldplay album, unless you are a fan, you would think it was a solo artist.

I kind of feel like if he did a solo album it would sound like Coldplay anyway, lol. Unless... you know he did say Michael Jackson's album 'Off The Wall' was the best record he's heard...maybe he could do something like that. LOL. j/k

I know he has a lot of influences that a lot of people probably think he wouldn't have...but it's not as if he has the kind of voice that could hold the type of stuff MJ did on Off the Wall...he knows that.

No, he shouldn't go solo. :D :D

I just.. I just can't imagine Chris standing on the stage all alone, can you?? Although he's a "rock star" now, he's indeed still very shy and insecure and I don't think he can deal with the whole stage all on his own..

And I don't think that you think of a solo artist when you listen to the album and don't know the band - all fuckin' bands have one lead singer, that doesn't mean that it's JUST the lead singer.

It's basically the same thing though as being solo, he'll sing the lead and then he'll have a backing band...except this time the band won't be his friends.

If you had no idea who Coldplay were and you asked "Who's that on the radio?" and then the person told you, "Chris Martin." A lot of people would accept that.

If he goes solo the only difference will be that he doesn't have to compromise anything, he'll just do what he wants. All the lyrics and instrumentation will all be his ideas.

But I think we all know and he knows that the four of them better eachother.

Four of them work in an excellent way...I don't want them to apart (heh, tnk God, they've signed the contarct for 5 studio albums...so at least 2 more :), but,as I said b4, it wouldn't be bad when he'd do it as a hobby....
