how does that have to do with me "avoiding" questions...because i just answered the question you asked me. it has nothing to do with that...lol. you make no sense. i didnt avoid the question.

"Moazzam Begg, 36, who has been detained for 2 years without charge or trial..."

being held up in detention for 2 years without a charge or trial? oh they're so lucky, they're not treated badly at allllll! :idea2:

"... remain held in effect in a legal black hole, many without access to any court, legal counsel or family visits"

"Reports from the detainees and their lawyers suggest that many have been subjected to torture or other forms of ill-treatment in Guantánamo"

pictures do say a thousand words, and the words they say arent anything bad. they arent treated that badly, those pictures arent bad at all. and its common to hold prisoners of war fora few years during war. thats how military's work and what happens in war. im all against horrible prisons and treating people badly, but this is just pathetic. so far no one has shown any real evidence they have been treated badly, and if there is enough to show this then it should be shut down.

so you agree that someone should be held in guantanamo for several years without a single charge laid at all, or a trial? hm. so let's say you're shoved in guantanamo for 4 years, nik. no charge, no trial. and you're innocent. regardless of whether there is torture or horrid conditions at all, the fact that someone has to spend years in a cuban jail with no clue why the hell he's in there in the first place, is a violation of human rights in itself.

add torture, horrid conditions, pscyhological as well as physical trauma, and you have one lovely mix of human rights violations right there, don't you.

its called war, and during war they have prisons to keep prisoners til the wars over...if i was captured during war i would expect the same thing to happen to me. its life its how the world works, its been this way for along time and will ALWAYS be this way. armies take prisoners and hold them. they do not live in horrid conditions and are not treated badly. if they had torture and horrid conditions i'd be all for closing it. but its not the case.

there's one thing --> called censorship. the government - ie bush and co, censor information. consequently, we as the public do not have an accurate portrayal of what is taking place behind closed doors. in 20 or so years, everything will be out, records will be released, files will be there for the general public to see. as a result, the world will realise what mistakes they made whilst they sat back and assumed all was well.

if they are treated badly --> you will not know about it. do you think the government goes around saying "heeeeyyyy bushhy boy, let's release some photos of the gitmo prisoners!" :dozey:

its a war, its done by every nation and every leader during a war. nothing new....but as for now there is no reason to call for it to be closed because its possible in the future we MIGHT find out something bad was happening. thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. the only reason it should be closed if their is hard evidence proving something. and there is not. no goverment is competely open about their military prisons...its how the world works.

and current prisoner testimony stands for nothing? :dozey:

At first you can't call them prisoners because nothing against them and if they captured you during the war they should charge you first

War don't mean to be brutal, whitout sense, without soul and inhuman.By what you say you make this world like a big jungle

There is something called war morals and I didn't think those soldier know it

because they are animals [ even animals have a sense ]

you answered a question... yes. But the not the one I had posed.. as you have just admitted a few posts back... ergo, the avoidence of the question lol

woah, those pictures are pretty hard to look at. I know this is how POW are treated in other countries...... but, I guess the whole war thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I still don't know what we're fighting for.... wasn't it n retaliation for 9/11????

thats right. There are certain 'rules' in which soldiers are suppose to adide by, which is partly the reason why those Marines are being charged.

and current prisoner testimony stands for nothing? :dozey:

pretty much, seeing as how these people are going to say whatever they can to hurt america, they're willing to kill themselves just to hurt america's image...

I don't think this detention camp will ever closed.. I mean, look how long its been operating since. I'm surprised Castro hasn't said or done anything about it... lol

Hmmm, he might close it.......it would be such a crowd pleaser.......and we know he needs it.

you do know closing it wont change a thing. there are secret prisons we have that the public does not know about. but thats true for every nation, every goverment has secret prisons. theres going to be prisons like this no matter what.

  • Author

I know it wont change much. That's exactly what this thread is about.

its sad really people spend more time attacking america for this base then for the terrorist who do much much much worse things to their own people AND american soldiers....

Hahaha, America (government) are the biggest terrorists on the globe!!

I'm sick of the words 'terrorism and terrorist'. Our governments can't go 1 minute without mentioning it.....but in truth they are the biggest architects of 'terror'. Creating it, inciting it...you name it...they do it.

Haha.

^ hmm tough choice of words there Gareth... but I can where you're getting at. They like to keep us 'scared' of the unknown... and thats exactly what a terrorists does... 'creates terror'... but I don't think it fair to associate the entire US government under that term..... :/
