Yeah, a guy from here invented it, but i think it's a good idea. I thought it also existed in other countries, as it is on the 20th of july because of the arrival of the first man on the moon, and this made everyone on the world pay attention to the same event, so it kinda united it in some way...or whatever. Here's the story in Spanish of how it was created:

 

El día internacional del Amigo tiene origen en Argentina, y se lo debemos a Enrique Ernesto Febbraro, un profesor de Psicología, músico y odontólogo que vivía en Lomas de Zamora y que un 20 de julio, en honor a la llegada del hombre a la luna, envió mas de 1000 cartas a diferentes países. Le respondieron 700 personas y enseguida, el Día del Amigo quedó instaurado en 100 naciones diferentes.

Su iniciativa tuvo éxito ya que cada 20 de julio, en muchos países, los amigos esperan reunirse y dedican un día a la amistad.

Enrique Ernesto Febbraro fue candidato dos veces al premio Nobel de la Paz.
