The New Anti-Semitism

Who are the new anti-Semites?

The new anti-Semites do not publicly proclaim their desire to bring about a second Holocaust or to subject the Jews to mass murder or annihilation. The hatred is aimed against the state of Israel, which, according to the new anti-Semites, represents all that is evil in the world and which is the main violator of human rights and guilty of virtually every other abuse that can be conceived. This poison is now so widespread that a poll taken in Europe not too long ago found Israel to be the greatest menace to the peace of the world — far ahead of such murderous regimes as those of Iran or of North Korea.

The leaders and instigators of this new anti-Semitism are concentrated on the political left, its most active and vocal spokesmen being found in our prestige universities. Such is the anti-Zionist (anti-Semitic) focus of the left that, almost incomprehensibly, it includes a fair number of Jewish professors and other “intellectuals,” not just here in the United States, but even in Israel itself.

Those on the extreme left call for the abolition of the State of Israel outright, although they do not tell us what they propose to do with the five million Israeli Jews. They would presumably be left to the tender mercies of the Arabs, who would, of course, have no greater joy than to emulate or perhaps even to “improve” on the Nazi model and to give “final solution(!) to the Jewish problem” once and for all. That isn’t going to happen, of course, not because anybody in the world would lift a finger to prevent it, but because, fortunately, Israel is a very strong and most capable nation.

A death wish for Israel. In deference to “world opinion” and also to the wishes of the United States, Israel has allowed itself to be pressured into innumerable concessions to those who are sworn to destroy it. But it seems clear that, when the chips are really down, a most decisive response on the part of Israel can be expected. With the possible exception of Carthage during the Punic Wars, almost 2500 years ago, no country in the world, no country in recorded history, has ever been threatened with extinction. Israel is the one exception. Fueled by the extreme left, the “legitimacy” of Israel is a constant topic of discussion. The abolition of the “Zionist entity” gets serious attention, even in the hallowed halls of the United Nations. Iran feverishly pursues the Holy Grail of atomic weapons. Its president has publicly declared — not once, but repeatedly — that Israel is a “tumor” that must be excised and that it must be wiped off the map of the world. Medium-range missiles (so far, fortunately without atomic warheads) are being paraded through the streets of Teheran, with signs attached to them, shamelessly giving their destination as Jerusalem. A few eyebrows are being raised around the world, but otherwise nothing is being done about it.

Because the memory of the Nazi Holocaust still lingers after all these years, the new anti-Semitism is disguised as the socially more acceptable “anti-Zionism.” It is pursued and propagated by the radical left. Every leftist demonstration — be it about the war in Iraq, against globalization, for or against whatever else — does inevitably include appeals against “Israeli subjugation of the Palestinians,” the “occupation of Palestinian lands by Israel,” or simply asks for the elimination of Israel. Sadly, quite a few Jews, having been saturated with leftism from their early years, participate in such demonstrations.

While the propagation of the new anti-Semitism by prestige universities started in Europe (mostly in England), it has found fertile ground in the universities of the United States. The active participation in the new anti-Semitism by the American clergy (beginning with the mainline Presbyterians) is a scandalous reality.

Surely, not everybody who criticizes Israel is an anti-Semite. The actions of Israel, just as the actions of any other countries, are subject to examination and criticism. But the viciousness, volume and consistency of this criticism against Israel is such that it cannot be considered as anything but anti-Semitism — the new anti-Semitism, disguised as anti-Israelism or anti-Zionism. The foolish professors and the hypocritical preachers are besotted by their leftism and by their hatred against Israel and America. Overt vilification of America has to remain muted — it’s somewhat dangerous to be too outspoken about it — but Israel, perceived as the satrap and the handmaiden of the United States in the Middle East, is an easy target. Nobody should be fooled. Anti-Semitism is anti-Semitism in whichever way it may be disguised.

im glad u brought all these facts out to show to the members of the forum that participated in the debate of the whole israel-hizballa situation. Since everyone got mad saying "stop mixing anti semitism with us being against government actions in israel".

so i think this made it clear- u may just be critising what's going on, but some ppl really do want the destruction of israel because of anti semitism. They might not even be aware of it (just like the jews demonstrating against israel that r mentioned...)

green eyes88, I agree with you. I hate anti-semitism and I hate the situation in Israel and Lebanon.

So to disagree with the actions of the Israeli forces makes you anti-semitic? In which case, by the same logic, all germans are nazis.

That's far too black and white a look at things. Nothing in this world is clear cut, its all shades of grey.

You can disagree with an action taken by people without it being anything to do with race, creed, colour or religion.

i'd go as far to say some even want the extinction of the jews all together gal. it is true but unfortunate

that's not what he said...

the point is that some ppl just seem to be against israel without knowing many facts, without giving it alot of thought just because there's also been antisemitism in families abroad and it just goes through generations. Even unknowingly.

like i said earlier, it doesnt mean ppl who critizise israel's actions are antisemitics.

But there are who are con israel just for the sake of it, or so it seems...

why justify if there isn't anti-semitism involved?

the israeli army is a peceful one. i'm trying to remember the last time ive spoken to an ex-israeli soldier that has said they enjoyed the army because it meant they got to kill people regardless of who they were. pffft

hi josh....

do u feel any antisemitism around where live?

*gotta go back to work... bye everyone

occasionally...

not often though. i go to a jewish school so its pretty sheltered. but playing sport sometimes you get a bit from people. but you learn to mix into society. like no one would pick me to be jewish. i'm 6'5 (jews are normally short) and my dad isn't jewish. but mum is. so that makes me jewish.

So to disagree with the actions of the Israeli forces makes you anti-semitic?
No, I don't think so! But if you kill yourself e.g. in busses just to kill Israelis than that's anti-semitic for me. Or at least anti-Israel.

In which case, by the same logic, all germans are nazis.
So that's not right, of course!

And, yes, nothing is black or white.

why justify if there isn't anti-semitism involved?

whose justifying anything? I asked a question, because the way the opening post comes across is that you have to either agree with what Israel is doing or you're anti-semitic.

The point I'm making is that the world isn't that black and white. You can quite easily disagree with the Israeli response to the situation without hating all Jews. Just as easily as disagreeing with the Lebanese response doesn't make you anti-lebanese; disagreeing with the american or british response in Iraq doesn't make you anti-british or anti-american.

To disagree with the Israeli governments decision, is just that. Not all Israelis are Jews, and not all Jews are Israelis. How can you hate an entire race for a decision made by a governemnt who doesn't represent all that race?

Do you hate all the people in England because of the decisions Tony Blair has made? Do you hate all the people in Zimbabwe because of the action's Mugabe's government has taken?

You're right, Jenjie. I have been to unexact - my fault.

when you're predjudice Jen... its all black and white. You're either with'em or not. And being prejudice is exactly what that first post described... 'pre-juding' people... and their views.

i don't want to become all technical.... buttttt

all jews are israeli citizens under the right of return. that is the truth. when you establish another country that is jewish there will be no need for such war in the middle east.

israels response is only to ensure its survival and that of a jewish state for ALL jewish people.

well it is the truth... ask any jew...

thank you for acknowledging it was.

i have no idea what 6'5 means (i go by the metric system)

but ppl around here arent really short lol, guys are around the 1.75- 1.85m, and girls are 1.60 - 1.70 m

of course there are exceptionals.

if your dad is christian- wouldnt that make u christian by christian law and jewish by jewish law? (im not sure how it goes in christianity)

it's cool that u still see yourself as jewish and go to a jewish school even though you're mixed and live a broad. Many ppl mix with other ppl and lose thei jewish heritage. That's why i think it's so good there's a place for jews to be together, there arent so many jews around the world.

and about the antisemitism, that's what so scary about it- the way that before WW2 the jews mixed with society, they were like the rest but still they were hated, and all the problems were blamed on them... so it's a scary situation. Thats why i asked if u feel anything living abroad..

6'5 is 1.95m. yeah i'm fully fledged jewish had a bris and barmitzvah. i've never even been to church and dad is catholic as he was brought up with that background but is more of an aetheist. we definetly havent lost our jewish heritage over here.

melbourne (my city) has the highest number of holocaust survivors in the world for a city outside of israel, so theres definetly no loss of jewish pride.

:)

Im against israels actions against Lebanon sure, but that does, in no way, make me AS, there is a huge differance between having a political differance with the country, or group of people, than hating them, or wanting the destruction of their nation.

i hate that things/words like 'anti-semite' and 'islamophobia' even exist. hating someone based solely on religion is just wrong, and it upsets me greatly so see that so many people do base hate on that fact.

as for the anti-semitism ?-we barely have jewish people in our area, so that's hard to answer. but if i were to hear someone bashing a jewish person bc of their faith, i would kick their ass (pardon the language). it's not right in any way, shape or form, and i would like to think that other people would do the same for anyone else; regardless of religion.
