capdolly
Hi I am new to the site so I am sorry if this thread has already been started. Everyone I talk to seems to think that The Hardest Part was a strange choice to release as a single. I have to admit that when I first heard it was goingt to be the 4th single I was slightly surprised. But when I saw the vedio it just all seemed to make sense. I really like the song. What do you think?
Flying Sparks
First of all, welcome to the board :) It's true that this question has been discussed a lot, but it's always ok to open a thread about something you're thinking of! I agree with you, I was surprised by the choice as well because THP was my least favourite song on the album, I would have preferred White Shadows as the fourth single. I was surprised by the weird music video as well, but the more often I hear it on the radio or see it on TV, the more I like it and the more I respect their choice of releasing it =)

coldpatrix
I think that, firstly put away, now it's a good song, in Italy is having success and i think that the people appreciates the song 'cause in in REM style and in this summer is perfect! Lifelike
I thought they would've chosen something more energetic, Low or something. But Hardest Part is a pretty good choice. Not my first, but I'm glad people know more than Speed of Sound and Fix You. I love the songs but they're so overplayed.
Guest Grace
yes, i do think it was a weird move to release that song. i would've prefered "X & Y" or "Twisted Logic"... whatever, i kinda learned to love it now :nice:

farø
I did not say that it's not good. I just said that it was a strong decision (I mean that they took a song that wasn't loved as much as the most of the other songs)
capdolly
I love the song but I really didn't love it as much untill I saw the video. I think it was a great choice because it wasn't predictable. I think they chose it because they wanted it to be a single. I think some bands choose songs because they think that will sell lots of records and don't think we like this song, who cares if it doesn't become the best selling record of all time, lets just dop it. Ondes Martenot
The Hardest Part is shit. and it's not my least favourite, it's simply the worst. THP is the most unoriginal thing Coldplay have ever done. both lyrics and sound seem to be a work from 19 years old students who are listening to REM and U2 whole day long. there's nothing Coldplay in THP
ultracold
THP is an ok song, but yea, i agree there's hardly anything Coldplay in it--- it's more like a REM song.
~Vita
i loved the hardest part straight away , well at least until the moment i saw the video . After that i just prefer to pretend i never saw the video and just enjoy the song :)
musicman1990
I'm still surprised at the release. You'd think they'd release songs they've done alot on tour. So logicially, excluding Square One (as it's the opening song) and Til Kingdom Come (for obvious reasons) it should've come down to White Shadows and Swallowed In The Sea for 4th-5th singles. So I was really surprised at it. Then when I saw the video, I started to get the impression that the whole single itself was a joke of some sort. There have been some funny videos in the past (not by Coldplay), but they're all done in a serious way...I just couldn't even take THP vid seriously!!! So, I don't know. It's just such an un-obvious choice for a single for many reasons...so when it was announced, it left the entire fan base in disbelief!!! I'm still getting over it! razors_girl23
There's nothing to get over though. It's a good song, which would appeal to a wide audience. It may not please all Coldplay fantatics or purists, but the record company doesn't want to appeal to us, because we are a minority. In any case, I fucking love THP so I was happy.
