Fake Coldplay @ Mathew Street Festival 2006

Featured Replies

Well I see the same"MTF" sign on the piano.:dozey:

I see a woman with blondish hair standing behind "Guy", that must be Gwyneth directing the video. ;)

i really hate it when people wanna sound and look like coldplay

i have nothing against tribute bands, but please give your own twist to it, don't just imitate

Yes it was Coldplace :) I was going to say "It really WAS Coldplay!" but thought better of it ;) I loved it as I love Coldplay :D Just to be able to actually see a band playing their music and singing their songs was a great way of coping with the withdrawal symptoms. They got a great reception and loads of people were joining in singing. Technical hitch during The Scientist though, the wire connecting Chris' piano to the speakers went faulty, but the crowd carried on singing which was amazing, and Chris was very grateful to everybody and said this was the best crowd they'd played infront of :D Setlist was something like:

Politik

Speed Of Sound

Yellow

In My Place

The Scientist

Clocks

Talk

Fix You

The singer's mannerisms are really close to Chris', the bouncing up and down on the piano stool, the way he played Yellow on the guitar, the In My Place 'YEAHHHs', interaction with the crowd, he even lay down on the stage at one point, can't remember during which song though.

Does this band have their own songs? or they just imitate Coldplay?

I don't know if they do have any of their own songs.

i bet they don't

they just copy

^^ That'd actually be pretty cool. You could *almost* have your dream come true of having 'Coldplay' play at your wedding...

There's nothing wrong with them pretending to be Coldplay - they don't say "We are Coldplay!" If there weren't any cover bands then Mathew Street would not be the same without The Mersey Beatles and Banned On The Run :P

Yeah Coldplace is the only tribute band which i really respect :)

They play really great, and the singer has a very good voice..

I hate some tribute albums..

I hate this thing when he's faking chris piano with the trade fair mark .

what a loser !!!!!

can you fake even more.

Well i don't think i agree at all :)

It's a good tribute band don't forget that, and they really copy everything, and remember. More things about make traide fair how more people they get and how more populair it will become :)

Would have been even better if there were Oxfam people getting people to sign up to Make Trade Fair :D

no we don't have any songs of our own and yes, we do just copy. we jam often in band practice but to be honest Coldplace keeps us too busy to have time to write our own stuff.

it's interesting to read other people's comments about our band and yes, even the negative ones. we understand not everyone's happy about tribute bands but please understand that we don't do this just to copy Coldplay and coz we wanna be them. as far as we're concerned, Coldplay's music is awesome and 10 times more awesome live and to be able to play them is an amazing experience. the songs are 10 times better again when you play them yourself and have other band members joining in doing the other parts. there are many times during a gig that certain parts just make my spine tingle - even tiny little things like the single guitar strum in the breakdown of speed of sound and simple but powerful drum fill after the breakdown in Talk, just before the end - you wanna see an up for it crowd at that point - it's a sight to behold. And then to have a gig where you're playing to 200 people who are all equally avid coldplay fans and just enjoy the music and sing every word of every song is just .... well .... hard to describe really but let's just say when you work in the daytime in shitty jobs like we all do it makes life worth it. Not all gigs are good. Sometimes you travel 6hrs to play to a pub of 10 people that couldn't care less. Other times you'll do the same and play to a packed house that just can't get enough of Coldplay's music. We've been all over the country, played at many venues and had some fantastic times on the road. Hell, we've even been to Malta! Twice! And one of those gigs we supported Bob Geldof and met the man himself! Maybe that gives all you naysayers some idea of the things that drive us ;)

so, believe me when i say, that's it's not about copying, or wanting to be coldplay or just making money out of it - maybe one day it can be our jobs, we keep dreaming the dream - but it's the music and for the love it.

cheers,

wayne

Do they play weddings?

yes, we do do weddings :)
