I love Harry Potter but it doesn't mean that you see me in my backyard with a fucking stick trying to conjure up Satan. It seems like we say no to everything these days. You'd think that since the U.S.'s educational system is total bullshit that we'd want a few MILLION kids to pick up a fucking book. God. In my school they banned everything. They even banned "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou. This is so retarded.

They ban the weirdest of things. When I was in primary school, we used to be able to buy books through the Puffin book club. One year, we were banned from buying the "Demon Headmaster" by Gillian Cross and anyone who bought it outside school wasn't allowed to bring it to school with them. I still don't understand exactly why. We didn't like the headmaster but even at that age I think we would have realised that he wasn't some megolamaniac set on world domination. Or maybe he was.......

There are people who call themselves Christians but give an absolutely disgraceful exhibition of what a Christian is supposed to be. You can't judge a people group by a couple members. I also get mad at those people who restrict stuff like Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Narnia bc they have a smidgen of magic or evil. There is evil and supernatural forces at work in the world. You can't just shut down books or otherwise that bring that fact to the surface and expect people to forget it.

 

That's why I am a firm believer in the "non-cutoff philosophy" I made up. It states: "Don't cut yer kids off from the rest of the world bc there is evil in it. They're gonna face it sooner or later so raise awareness in them so they won't be completely devastated when they start making their way in the world. You can only shelter them for a short time."

 

I myself have never read Harry Potter. I find LOTR the best books ever and can't imagine anything topping that. But anyhoo restricting fictional books is such a dumb waste of time. Focus on more pressing matters in the world like stopping school violence or illegal immigration or impeaching liberals.

Laura Mallory says the Harry Potter books promote evil

 

 

 

A woman who maintains that the Harry Potter books are an attempt to teach children witchcraft is pushing for the second time to have them banned from school libraries.

 

 

Laura Mallory, a mother of four from the Atlanta suburb of Loganville, told a Georgia Board of Education officer that the books by British author J.K. Rowling, sought to indoctrinate children as Wiccans, or practitioners of religious witchcraft.

Referring to the recent rash of deadly assaults at schools, Mallory said books that promote evil - as she claims the Potter ones do - help foster the kind of culture where school shootings happen.

That would not happen if students instead read the Bible, Mallory said.

She added that the books were harmful to children who are unable to differentiate between reality and fantasy.

The children, she said, try to imitate Harry Potter and cast spells on classmates.

"They're not educationally suitable and have been shown to be harmful to some kids," Mallory said.

She argued that teachers do not assign other religious books like the Bible as student reading.

It was Mallory's second public campaign against the popular fiction series, after trying to get her son's elementary school to ban the books in August 2005.

Victoria Sweeny, an attorney representing the Gwinnett County Board of Education in Atlanta's eastern suburbs, which had ruled against her in May, said that if schools were to remove all books containing reference to witches, they would have to ban mainstays like "Macbeth" and "Cinderella."

"There's a mountain of evidence for keeping Harry Potter," she said, adding that the books don't support any particular religion but present instead universal themes of friendship and overcoming adversity.

Sweeny said parents, teachers and scholars have found them a good tool to stimulate children's imagination and encourage them to read.

The hearing officer presiding over the appeal will make a recommendation to the state board, which will then decide the case at its meeting in December.

Mallory is appealing after the Gwinnett County school board ruled in favour of the books.

Wiccans consider themselves witches, pagans or neo-pagans, and say their religion is based on respect for the earth, nature and the cycle of the seasons.

Give me a break! The only thing wrong with the books is how people use them. People try to ban "offensive material" but the only thing being offensive is the way people use them. The reason kida are "casting spells" on other students is because they haven't been told that HP isn't real! Some of these kids have a choice to take it too far and they make bad ones.

Mostly it's also parent's fault when they don't enlighten their kids.And there is also a missing tolerance for those people who love to read books who maybe offend but in general it doesn't matter if you censor a book because it only results in more curiosity for the banned books. You can't change what in someboby's mind happend. In my homecountry I only heart that they banned most nationalsocialism books and also music of it which causes a lot of hate againt immigrants and coloured people-----i really hate something like that! Most people do not care about important things like fighting against hunger,poverty,AIDS,wars and so on.Why don't they change their piont of view in a new direction and be more concentrated on necessary things?! I just hope people realize not all christains are nuts. I think what is happening with christians is what is happening to muslim too. A few conservative extremist are nuts so some people view all of them as nuts.
