innocence gone?

Featured Replies

My friend and I were talking last night, and thi has been something that comes up in alot of conversations I have with ppl, so it seems to be something that's bothering alot of ppl.... But, and i know i sound like a grandma when I say this, but dont u feel like the children of today have totally lost all the innocence that a child should have?

With the internet and TV kids know all there is to know already- no more need for discussions about the birds and the bees when sex is pretty much all around.

And there's way too much violence. When I was 5 my friends and I watched shows about talking cars (Binba) and a talking snowman (Buli) and today all kids watch is those animated japanese shows. And i know many of the ppl here are into them, but they're just filled with violence.

And what bothers me most of all is those Bratz dolls. I hate those damn things. They all dress like sluts, making girls, from day one, think that make up and clothes and being pretty is the only things that matter in life...

it just really saddens me, thinking that if this is where we are today, and comparing it to how we were as children...

I once had to go to a kindergarden as a voulnteer. And one of the girls, 5 years old, came up to me and said "When you're older you and your husband will sleep together in the same bed and you'll both be naked".... what are 5 year olds gonna say in 10 years?

yeah, definitely.

we live in a world where 11-year-olds have sex and become mums.

^^I know! I went to Oktoberfest last night with my friends...and this girl in my grade got VERY VERY VERY VERY drunk! She couldn't even see or hear or walk! Everyone had to hold on to her all night, and they told me to don't tell anyone, and if anyone asked I'd say she's just 'tired.'

I mean, she's 14! She must have drank A LOT to be that drunk!

well... I don't agree...

before internet and Tv there was sex and violence between teenagers... the difference is that now when something happens the whole world is informed real quickly... which didn't happened before...

lol.

you had an Oktoberfest there?

really off topic now, but they've showed a report about aussies coming to germany to get drunk at Oktoberfest. that was just genius! :D

however.

it seems cool to kids to do all the "adult stuff". such as having serious relationships (which contains sex), drinking, smoking, ...

i don't think that TV is to blame. does have a lot to do with their environment (family, friends, where they grow up).

im not talking about sex and violence between teenagers

im saying that kids in elementary school know all there is to know about sex... maybe i was just a very naive child, but i dont remember knowing much about stuff like that when i was 8

The Oktoberfest here was like a family thing, so being drunk amongst little kids painting pumpkins is not good! But seriously, she was extremely drunk. No joke.

hhhmmm... ah ok...

in that case I think that's a result of progress... even though I think this "naive thing" you mean is more due to the personality... because I'm older than you and I was quite naive for a while too... but I can tell you that I had school mates not naive at all...

okay, those Bratz dolls are disgusting indeed. they seem to tell the kids that plastic surgery is good. lol. (i mean, look at their fucking lips! they are HUGE!)

whatever. i think it's good that kids in elementary school already know a lot about sex. so they might not get pregnant when they have sex at the age of 11 :laugh3:

hehe.

well,... it just happens.

i almost had an alcohol poisoning when i was 14. :uhoh:

not a good memory, but you learn from that. hope she learned her lesson as well.

right, boys never had any innocence

^^:P

It was stupid of that girl, though. She was with all her friends and they were going to have a good time, and she had to get drunk and ruin everone's night. I felt bad for her friends, because all they could do was hold her up and walk the whole night.

They did once, but due to the TV and internet it's gone :(

yeah sure.

especially when it was more of a family kinda celebration.

but who gave her the alcohol anyway?

^^I was wondering that. How could she get that much alcohol without getting in trouble?

perhaps she let someone else get it for her.

don't know.

well, at public events they often sell alcohol to underaged people.

trust me ;)

Probably....

Thank God I don't drink! I don't want to go through that kinda thing!

i don't remember it too...but i know kids in my school that were not naive at all at that age (like Miguel said)...i just had a conversation about that with my friends a while ago...

sure internet and tv don't help kids to be naive but some wouldn't be naive with tv or not...and in my opinion is good that sex is no longer a taboo....about those violent cartoons i agree gal, my brother always loved those and maybe because i'm girl and i'm older than him i always thought that was a bit too violent and not a good influence at all!!!

i just get really shocked when i see 5 year old kids with mobile phones and ipods and all that stuff!!! do they even really use those??

No, I don't think it's gone, although I can't deny they discover some things earlier... but, what's wrong with this? What's wrong if kids can have the opportunity of surfing on the internet? My parents have told me loads of times he'd have liked so much to have all the advantages they hadn't when they were young, such as internet.

And about sex: no more taboos anymore, as Lili said. I don't understand the hypocrisy of the parents that don't want their children to know how the real life works and all the fears they put inside their body that make them to have lots of problems which they'll have to face when they will be older. I'm not saying kids have to know everything about sex, but there is no reason for HIDING this fact and stuff related with that.

Violence: I could say this is the main problem 'cos children used to imitate what they see on the tv....

Anyway, like everything, a thing could be an advantage or not depending on the use you give it. Of course children who are all the time in front of the screen playing games, or who watch violent films or some specific sex scenes which are too "deep" for them wouldn't be good but if they've their parents by their side and explain them what's going on, I'm sure most of things can be positive.
