MixoZ
Could you think of Chris's favourite chords, musical keys, tunings, strumming patterns, anything? What groups play similar music?
athalon012
he plays the 6th string with his thumb... i don't know if that helps you at all.
Luigio
The thumb is just a regular part of playing guitar, if I'm not mistaken.

athalon012
well you either play bar chords with your index finger as the base or use your thumb for the sixth string. chris plays his chords using his thumb for the sixth string since he usually keeps the first and second string open. maybe you two could actually answer mixoz rather than trying to disprove my post. maybe? TraceOddity
Not all guitar players use the thumb like that...I don't because my fingers aren't long enough to reach around the neck. But Chris does... ...anyway, he also uses alot of open tunings. GPASUYF is in a Drop D tuning...you detune the 1st and 6th strings from an E to a D. Green Eyes, Help Is Round The Corner, Warning SIgn to name a few are also in open tunings...altho9ugh I'm not sure withoug a guitar in my hands what they are. I think Green Eyes is also drop D. Chris also seems to love the C 7. I think it's the major 7th...the C chord but without your index finger on the 2nd string. He uses it in a few songs...Don't Panic, most notably. I think he has his thumb on the 3rd fret of the 6th string too. If I can think of anything else, I'll let you know...I know more about his piano playing than his guit5ar playing, lol.
improvisation
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face is far from drop D tuning bud...
TraceOddity
God Put A Smile Upon Your Face is far from drop D tuning bud... OK, 'bud' what is it then? My band does it in Drop D. That may not be how Chris does it, but there's no need for sarchasm!!
alyssa
Yeah, Chris really likes to grab the whole neck and play the 6th with his thumb... I can't think of a song where he doesn't, haha. Luckily, my hands are quite large so it's pretty easy to do that IMO. I don't know any of the names of the chords he frequently uses, but I just know how to play them. :/ I don't read music. I could tab them out, but that's a bitch, haha.

Trouble87
chris likes to have his chords similar to eachother, there usually really easy to get to which I'm sure makes it easier for him to play and sing. Like AROBTTH, he uses Am, then moves his ring and pinky finger to the third fret of the 5th and 6th string, so there's really not alot of moving.
