When Westdeath, killers of real music beats U2, Oasis & The Beatles, you know it's time to switch off the life saving device.

R.I.P. Real Music

Dawn of Time -> 26th November 2006.

oh and :laugh3:

Take That are a very good pop group' date=' and prob the best out of the "boy-bands" area.[/quote']

i'm still laughing

you reviewed their album' date=' so [i']you[/i] supposedly love them

If I loved them, would I have given them a 0/10?

Pitchfork boy, are you still bumming the good the bad and the queen?

Pitchfork boy

if you reviewed their album, then you listened to the album very likely so LOL :laugh3:

I listened to the first 10 seconds of "The Rose" in the car before switching over to another radio station.

A album full of covers will always be rubbish.

And what's wrong with saying Take That are a good pop band?

They are better than pretty much 90% of bands on the radio at the moment.

so you reviewed an album which you actually haven't listened to? :laugh3:

of course, it's about music tastes, but Dave for god's sake...

there's no good boy bands and very likely never be, imo

So what did the almighty Pitchfork Media whose ever word must be taken as correct say about The Love Album?

And also define "Boy Band".

why should i care what pitchfork say about the love album. it's good imo, maybe an unnecessary album, but still quite well mixed

me? you said: "they are the best of boy bands" you need to define, i guess

This thread is hilarious hahaha.

I think Dave secretly loves Westlife.

Not really, I can't stand Westlife, they are just a manufactured pile of crap which is music for housewives.

My definition of a "boy-band" is a band of males which make music for the radio, whose main appeal is girls aged between 8 and 14 & housewives. Focused more towards vocals than instruments.

Take That`s new album is fucking good, and they have written some classics in the past as well, same as East 17, anyone who denies that is an idiot.

As for no-one caring about the charts, that`s a very sweeping generalisation of all music lovers, if no-one cared, then why would they even exist.

They are not the be all and end all agreed, but it`s a shit state of affairs when Pondlife outsell 3 of the most Iconic bands in music history (I`m not keen on U2, but even I can see why they are so big).

You don`t care about them, fine, stop being a hypocrite and taking part in a discussion about them then, and let us who are pretty pissed off about this latest injustice in the chart world moan in peace.

well, it's your opinion

and yes, i do deny that they've ever written classics, although it doesn't make me an idiot

LOL!

i don't understand why you moan now when the charts have been fucked up for ages. the boy bands and "musicians" like B. Spears or J. Blunt have occupied the charts ages ago...

so why moan now after years that the charts have been "dead"? that's pretty stupid

You seem to think this is the first time I`ve moaned about the charts...I moan now because of the reason I gave in my last post, it isn`t the first time though, believe me.

Also, wether you want to agree or not, they have written classics and maybe idiot was too strong, maybe just being a little ignorant in believing a boy-band cannot write some good songs, but I suppose that`s subjective too a certain degree, although I feel it`s pretty much agreed they did produce some good music.

:laugh4:

The songs are to easy they have. And enough people like boybands..But i dont think thats because of their music.

I mean robbie williams got a lot of fans, but i really really dont like his music.

forgive me my ignorance and arrogance

charts are unnecesarry and useless imo. of course, i do understand that musicians do care about them because of financial reasons first of all, but i can't see how we, music fans should pay attention, charts are propaganda ;)

i didn't say they can't write good songs themselves, but it's just not my cup of tea. lyrically, musically etc.

boy bands have their own image, and i don't like it ;)

and yes, i pretty much generalised

Fair enough, I despise boybands, but IMO Take That have some great stuff.

The reason I sometimes keep an eye on the charts is to see how my favourite band are doing, like I said, in terms of music, they don`t have any bearing, but in terms of wanting good bands to succeed and get the acclaim they deserve, the charts are partly what people (wrongly) measures success by.

well, i used to check the charts too, but after some huge "let downs", i just don't do it anymore.

and let me quote one of the great lyricists of all time (RIP)

"the game looks easy that's why it sells"

that pretty much sums up my opinion about music charts in the 21st century ;)

Hohoho, are you having a fight ?

Well, I basically don't care about charts, because of reasons Ondes Martenot explained very well, but even if it gives some importance (much more than deserved) to many crap things, sometimes it can show the real talent of some bands, or quality of an album (I think of the wonderful Dark Side Of The Moon).

Anyway, if Dave thinks that it kills good music when a stinky disc reaches top of the charts, then music's been dead for a bunch of years I guess !

And when stemot1978 tells that Take That wrote classics, i think you should define a "classic", because if a Boys-Band wrote some classics, then every band probably has its classics, don't you think so ?

When a stinky disc beats U2, The Beatles and Oasis to the top of the charts, than that's when the musical taste of the british comes to question.

No, not at all, classics I feel, are tracks that have gone down in history so to speak, such as Take That`s Back For Good, Oasis`s Wonderwall, Coldplay`s Yellow or The Beatles A Day In The Life.

Can you honestly say that in ten years time, when the Best songs of.... lists are being compiled, people are going to look back on songs such as Westlifes cover of Uptown Girl, Crazy Frog`s Axel F song, Akons Lonely or Infernals Paris To Berlin.

It`s never going to happen.

So no, not every band has classics.
