Featured Replies

They're saying people are dancing and singing.

They just said that celebrations broke out.

(Wow)

Anderson Cooper! That's what I'm watching.

In fact...

Videos and still pictures have been released. Youtube within minutes, probably... But yeah. I'm very glad for this. Very glad.

(and for the record, I don't support the death penalty....... but..... hey, I'm still glad. And it's over with, and it's happened. And he's dead. So now we just hold on for dear life and watch the next few days unfold. Certainly an interesting cap off to 2006.)

And how about that, there was dancing around the body. Interesting.

Oh, and I heard that they handed Saddam a "red card" before he was hung, which is what was given to all the people who were executed under his watch. Very symbolic, very appropriate and I hope it's true. Karma's a bitch.

I can't help but feel sorry for the guy. :\ Bad move by the U.S

This is a guy who had the Iraqi Olympic team tortured and killed if they didn't bring home gold. There's no doubt he was an evil man. Had he been tried and sentanced for his true crimes, this might have even been a good day. But he became a scape-goat and figure-head for all things 'anti-American' and was killed for all the wrong reasons.

I think the world is probably a better place without him in it, but it's certainly NOT a safer place, and justice has not been done here...

Thats sick.

*Edit*

Is there really any need to show dead people on tv?

I feel bad for the thousands of those who were killed under his watch. To be completely undignified, I hope he fucking fries... I know he will.

I'm never like this, but the man was evil. This, to me, is not about the war or about our own issues. We made a mistake going there, but we did. The problem is getting out, now. Arguing about the past is a dead issue. Saddam is dead and now we have to look at the future and make sure we can handle any of the possible violence thrown our way. But what I'm trying to say is that even though we made such an error going there, the man was evil and there is no mistake about it. He killed people. He was responsible for these murders. He deserved much worse than what he got.

I don't want to see any videos though

We'll see how many people are dancing when all hell breaks loose.

And I'm affraid overall that CNN is just like every other mainstream news channel, it's part of the government propaganda machine.

Although Fox News is the ultimate spin machine on a repeat cycle of white-wash and lies - it's really an absolute joke.

Yeah, I agree with Tracie.

I have a feeling that all hell's going to break lose. Like, it's night here and it's dawn over there and it's like some quiet before the storm.

I feel bad for him too, Annie. Ha, I thought I was the only one. He was a vicious tyrant but he was still human.

Dani: Yay, CNN! The best news station in my opinion.

*edit* Ok, it could be just another propaganda station, but they're handling this with class. All the other stations are being bias.

I think that there is, yes. It shows the realism of it, it gives us a sense of completion. You know the whole can't believe it unless my eyes see it.

And yeah, they just randomly showed the three who were executed standing with the black hoods over their heads, then they cut away.

Anderson just asked the best question I've ever heard "how do you know the difference between celebratory gunfire and not celebratory gunfire" LMFAO. WTF. That's true. But yeah. Apparently celebration now...

I don't pity evil. I don't condone violence, I don't condone the death penalty. But I feel no pity for a man responsible for a holocaust of his own people.

Thats sick.

They're saying that if they don't show pictures the Iraqis will get skeptical. So yeah, there is some need, unfortunately.

*edit* Dani just said that. God, I'm a slow typer.

They are reviewing the footage on CNN and they will put up a precautionary warning before any is shown. If they show it I'll watch it, but if they don't... well... I'll be ok ;) I know what happens when you get hung, I don't think it's that graphic actually. They could have done much worse. I heard this morning that they were going to use weights, not just like them swing. Too bad...

*coughs* And I thought I was a pacifist...

:laugh4:

Hey, I didn't put the noose on his neck. But I can't help feeling a bit of joy that our world is rid of someone such as this. Only human.

Coldplay Lover: They're about to show some more.

Shaftell: I agree.

This is twisted humor but one of the reporters in Bagdad (sp?) just put on a bullet proof vest. I want to be a journalist, but you couldn't pay me to go over there at a time like this. I have a bad feeling about this...

Why would they want to air it on TV?

Because people will not believe it unless their eyes see it.

I think they should, I think they should show more war on TV as well. Bring back realistic journalism and not just talking heads. I mean... I don't want to see an execution personally... but some people NEED to.

I don't want to offend anyone here, but I agree that CNN is like any other mainstream news source that will pander to the initiatives of the current govt. And will pander to people's morbid need to see carnage.

Having said that, it's also the best source we have...I can't say CNN viewers are part of the herd since I too am watcing the coverage.

A VERY evil man is dead, and that's probably a good thing...but for all the wrong reasons. To be honest, I don't have a firm opinion on this yet...too many implications.

But I am opposed to the death penalty. Killing the killers makes you a...killer...?

Take a deep breath, it's going to get interesting...

EDIT: I type too slow! That's not a direct response to an_cat's post, lol.

Yeah, I agree with everything you've said. What I'm trying to say is that... I feel no pity for him. I will not mourn him. I personally would not have killed him, I would not have put the noose around his neck. I'm opposed to it and was opposed to it up until the time when it became evident that there was nothing else that was going to happen. He was going to die. And he has. Now we can do nothing but hold on...

Interesting cap off to the year, though. Got to say....

I hate capital punishment. Although I know he was a very evil man I can't help it but feel some sort of pity for him. I don't think anyone deserves to die...

Ha ha...I have a slow computer, so by the time I posted, it looked like a reply to your post, an_cat. Sorry! It wasn't directed at anyone specifically.

Hey everybody! Let's play a game: It's called "Watch George W. Bush's Approval Rating Climb Back Up"!! If they want to start working on getting Jeb into the '08 White House, now's the time! God, I hope I'm wrong!

I'm changing my sig to include 'Killing the killers makes you a...killer...?

Ugh. If Jeb Bush becomes president I will seriously leave this country.

And Capital Punishment- that's a tough one. It's senseless to kill more, but then again, an eye for and eye.

It used to be that Canada didn't support the US govt., but now, with Harper in power, we move farther up Bush's ass avery day. Another Bush in the White House will cement my decision to leave Canada. It's a great country...for now. I don't want to know what it will become if the conservatives win the next election. Anyway, I'm off topic. It's just that all of this is scaring me.

:bigcry:

Don't get me wrong- I LOVE my country. I'm a proud American. But our government acts so stupid and now that Saddam's dead everything's going to go downhill (MORE). Our troops are in more danger and our economy is all fucked up (that's a whole 'nother story) And if another Bush takes over office....

*edit* But I seriously think our next president will be democrat. Did you hear about what happened to congress after the elections? The majority is now Democrat- YES. America has spoken and we're tired of the bullshit.

Don't get me wrong either. I love Canada. We've got alot going for us...but this conservative govt...I didn't vote for them, lol.

Your bi-elections made me soooo happy! Chances are, you're either going to have a female democrat, or a black republican in office next time around...probably the female dem. Either way, that election gave me hope! Now, if we can just vote our Bush-lovin' red-neck out of office here next year, I'll have a great contry again!

Otherwise, England here I come!

The election gave me hope, too! I'm Democrat, all the way!!!

Hmm. A black rep. or a female dem. Either way it's a win/win for me!

I don't know where I'll go, though. My mom's from Bermuda and when Bush was re-elected she seriously thought about going back. :stunned:
