Chelsea stars break FA Cup

 

Chelsea officials were forced to make an embarrassing admission to the Football Association after they broke the FA Cup.

 

The famous old trophy failed to last the pace as the Chelsea squad celebrated their extra-time win over Manchester United in last month's Wembley final.

 

Somewhere in the course of the frivolities the spike on the top of the Cup's lid snapped off.

 

However, despite the damage, Chelsea had been allowing fans to have their photo taken with the Cup - and the Carling Cup - at Stamford Bridge.

 

But when alarmed Blues supporters pointed out the Cup was broken, red-faced officials quickly despatched it to a Birmingham silversmiths for some specialist repairs.

 

An embarrassed Chelsea spokesman admitted: 'The lid of the FA Cup was broken accidentally during celebrations and is being fixed to prevent further damage.'
