Coldplay Mulling a Timbaland Collab For Next Album

Featured Replies

well i think Timbaland will add some sort of sick catchy beat for Coldplay's next album. I thought he was good on Furtado and Timberlake's albums (at least the selected few songs I like)

this shall be interesting and i can't wait to hear this either way :D

I agree^! The stuff he did on Nelly's album was great. I mean, Timbaland's known for hip hop beats but he's more diverse than that.

And I guess this means that the new album will be more beat-driven? Eno and Timbaland- hmm. This could be interesting...I can't wait. :D

I think its going to be interesting.... Timbo has a creative team and collabo'd with Eno... should be nice. I can't wait for #4..... should blow X&Y out of the water!!!!!

i don't know what to think atm.

on 1 hand coldplay have headed in a new direction and working on a new sound and timberland would definitely bring that and some.

on the other, what timbaland usually brings to music is a very pop-ish, electronic-like sound - the more i think about it the more i dislike the idea of them collaborating.

argh, as long as it's good music i don't care :\

Timbaland's very Hip Hop- that's a definite no no for Coldplay!:o

However, he should at least give a decent beat to songs on their new album, the 'dancability' of all Coldplay songs being poor. Eno should balance out Timblalnd to ensure some artistic integrity in Coldplay's sound so they don't turn out some radio frindly pop/ hip-hop trash (no!:veryangry2: :veryangry2:).

So much could go right for 4th album, so much could go wrong. :\

Holding thumbs:thinking:

The thing is, is that even though Timbaland is associated with hip-hop/pop-ish acts, you have to understand that he's only really worked with hip-hop/poppish acts like Furtado and Timberlake, etc. I think he wants to broaden his horizons just as much as Coldplay do, from what I can tell in the article. He's not going to turn Coldplay hip-hop, because they aren't a hip-hop band. I think the deal is him maybe providing some beats or some other little knick-knacks (Or, most likely, mix the album).

I mean, Eno is an electronic music artist, but he's also helmed albums like The Joshua Tree.

The point is, is that it is still Coldplay and Eno is producing. Timbaland collabing on it does not make it a hip-hop album.

I like Timbaland, but do I want him having anything to do with Coldplay's next album? I'm not really sure. I know he's wanted to work with them for a while. Saw him recently on Much Music. He really likes Coldplay, calling Chris "My Man". I'll gag if there's any hip hop sound. It's all right for Nelly, but please not Coldplay. We shall see.:\

I'm POSITIVE that the next album will NOT be filed under "Rap." Everyone needs like, two chill pills. :laugh3: Calm....caaaalm...

So, anyway, Timbaland likes their PREVIOUS stuff so he'll prolly try to help them improve, not point them in a completely different direction. And let's remember that Coldplay are four white men from England, I don't see them dropping a hip hop album anytime soon- or EVER. :laugh3:

I would love Timbaland to work with Coldplay for a few songs but maybe only B-Sides. Personally I'd like to see an exclusively Eno album first.

By bringing Eno and Timbaland in, you're including two very talented but very different producers whose sound and direction may conflict.

Timbaland is a genius. Some of my favorite work of his is of course with Missy Elliot. I'm not a huge fan of hip hop but the real stuff is good. You can't deny talent when you hear it no matter if you dislike the taste in music.

But this is obviously a meshing of two musical geniuses. And I think the product is going to be worth a listen. This is what you call evolution. And music as we know it isn't going to be left behind.

That is if it's true????

You're probably right. After more thought and a chill pill, I really can't see them messing too much with their style. Can't wait to see what happens. Cheers!!:)

First of all, blackchick's right, it's not gonna be hip hop OR rap and second of all, to all you coldplay ft. timbaland haters, i've said this time and again regarding any artist releasing new albums...you can't expect an artist to stay the same with every release. they need to grow as individuals and musicians and if that means experimenting with someone by the likes of timbaland then you know what, it'll be something magical because coldplay hasn't let me down yet. plus, the jay-z/chris martin thing was actually quite pleasant, "beach chair" if it hasn't already been mentioned.

Hey, I agree, artists need to grow and explore different things. I for one am not a Timbaland hater. I said so in my first post. Let's just wait and see the finished product. Cheers:)
