13th June 2003: MSG - Reviews & Thoughts

Brilliant show; incredibly lively and full of energy throughout...with a setlist almost identical to the Toronto show....except with the wonderfully nice surprise of an Acoustic "In My Place"

The audience sang along with the a generous young lady who supposedly had donated 350,000(?) dollars to charity for the opportunity to take the stage with Mr. Martin and Co, and give lead vocals to IMP.

Otherwise, a vibrant and wonderfully played, uptempo show that continued to showcase both Moses and World Turned Upside Down as "new" material.

Questionable as to why so many felt like sitting throughout, but all that were present were richly rewarded with a tremendously energetic and flawlessly performed show.

i agree! too many were sitting. However, I wasn't . I was right on the stage, front row, just to the right, right next to gwyneth. we were definately NOT sitting. It was an unforgettable concert!

coldplay TOTALLY ROCKED the house last night. although my seats were definitely nowhere near any celebrities, section 342, i had an awesome time. i had read mixed reviews about coldplay on this tour, but as this was their final north american stop, they seemed to pull out all the stops. i was surprised at how loud and raw they sounded- it was a very powerful and energetic sound driven by will champion. he kicked the shit out of those drums for lack of a better word, it was awesome. chris was great, he got the crowd into it. he is so intense and into his music, he is a terrific performer. in my opinion the highlights were "everything's not lost" when chris announced that "this is the last time they'll play this song for a really long time." the whole crowd was singing "come on yeah, ohhhh yeah, come on yeah- everything's not lost!" and it seemed like chris just never wanted to stop playing. i guess it is a bittersweet emotion for them ending this tour. other songs that were awesome were "god put a smile on my face," "moses," and especially "daylight" which although it was never a favorite of mine, rocked so hard. this concert proved that coldplay is one of the most talented bands out right now. i had a great time, it was worth the price of ticket Xs 2 or 3. they played pretty much everything they could, except for "shiver" which was a bit of a disappointment, but it didn't really matter in the end. so thanks to coldplay for an awesome night!

on another note. before the show, i was waiting for my friend to show up outside the garden and i was talking to a pretty cute guy in an orange shirt about coldplay and radiohead. i was too shy to ask for his name or number, and soon his friend (a girl) showed up and they left to grab a bite to eat. so if the guy in the orange shirt is out there, i'd like to talk to you, i think you're pretty cool.

I thought the show was fantastic as well! I was so happy to hear Amsterdam and Life Is For Living. And I thought the crowd had great energy during most of the songs. :) I saw some people sitting during the newer songs...

Great show! I totally hear ya on the sitting down thing... Everyone in the section next to us was sitting down... the usher even encouraged them to stand! At least we had a rockin' bunch in 119 :). Only dissapointments were that they didn't play Shiver or Warning Sign (two of my favorite songs), but Don't Panic totally made up for it! And my other slight complaint was the sound for the first opening act... I think I went deaf before Coldplay even made it out. After that first band, I went out to the Make Trade Fair table to get a bumper sticker and scared the hell out of the volunteer with my half-deaf screaming . But a really wonderful show for my first Coldplay concert :D

awsome glad it rocked for you guys! lucky lad to sing with them! thats my dream! :-D

Before the break Chris explained about a charity auction which had been taking place raising money for Robin Hood. This New York based organisation had been auctioning celebrity items to raise funds for Schools, Librairies etc. Coldplay had donated singing with them at MSG as a prize.

There had been 2 top bids as the original top bidder declined to sing, but still made the donation, with a total of $800,000 raised.
