Fix You, Toronto 2006 was a playback?

Featured Replies

"Coldplay can do a perfectly good performance with playback...we saw that at Live8 and with the Toronto 2006 live version of FIX YOU" - comment off youtube under the CD:UK performance of Fix You, which was mimed apart from the vocals by Chris.

The Toronto and Live 8 weren't mimed were they, they're blatantly played live???!!!

  • 1 month later...

especially obviously at the end, cause there is still piano while chris is jumping around...

i don't like that...

But i think toronto and live 8 were live, too

This one is live.. you can hear it when he sings higher.

Also live 8 was live.. as I can hear.

The piano part can be repeat with a pedal.

I tink that he is playing with a backtrack or something.

I'm sure this is live.

At all their concerts there's a backtrack that keeps playing. It does not necessarily mean that they are lip syncing.

hmm i know the cd:uk and the TOTP verson are mostly back tracked. Yet The Toronto and Live 8 Versions aren't. You can tell because just look at the hand movement on his piano, he can get that sound because of a pedal or something. I think why TOTP and cd:uk ones have a back track is most probably because the producer of the show wanted it that way. On ROVE Live in 2003 they performed God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, I think there too they had a back track for the instruments. The Instruments are back tracked, not the vocals.

It's easy for the guitarists or keyboards cos you just don't plug them in I guess, or you do but you turn the sound right down, but what about the drums? Does Will play a 'fake' kit with rubbish skins and cymbals???

PS. I guess this should me merged with the other topic about backing tracks etc.

hmm...good point Fixed, I guess I didn't think of it that way. But go on youtube then type in 'fix you cd:uk' and play the video clip with the original fix you playing in windows media player. This will show you how similar the two are. Maybe Will does play the drums part real, but on the 'fix you cd:uk' how can Jonny get that total acoustic sound with his guitar?

With an acoustic simulator. Jonnys pedalboard has one.

thanks for clearing that up bearcat25, who knows maybe on TOTP and CD:UK the sound could have been re-edited in after the show before being played back 'on air'

In TOTP it was a playback, except for the vocals cause it was exactly the like the original, I did'nt like that either

na i don't like it, i wonder who asks them to play it back?

also at toronto were some backing sounds.

you hear piano, although nobody plays it.

thats true...i only just noticed that last time i watched it

Of course it was live i think..

but all i know that his piano has a jack slot in behind that can connect with a keyboard on behind..so it look simple as chris touch the piano but the sound is from the keyboard,no wonder it' looks weird..

also the vocal when the chorus come(toronto) you 'll heard that he said " this is our last song.. our last song.." it is absolutely connect voice as he sang before....

they shouldn't play it bakc, i don't like it

  • 1 month later...

yup, it ain't playback, i mean, come on, you seriously thought that chris and band would've fallen that low?

hm.

It's half-half.

There is a hint of playback with the vocals when they are all singing. And at then end when there is piano but Chris isn't playing it. His piano is a keyboard, I have one like it, you can make it sound like a organ.

hm.

don't call them chris and band... they are just coldplay

Wow I never knew any of this, they sounded normal in Chicago though. So Chris's piano is really an electric keyboard?

With an acoustic simulator. Jonnys pedalboard has one.

An acoustic simulator will NEVER give that kind of a acoustic sound to an electric guitar!...never in a million years.

Ofcourse the CD:UK bit is playbacked by the band...chris is singing, but that's it.

They do that with nearly all bands that perform there....

It's really no big deal people.

Bye the way, toronto and Live 8 were live....no doubt.
