Windows Vista - Experiences, Problems.

Anyone who was fortunate (or indead unfortunate) to install Microsoft's Windows Vista on their computer recently can share their experiences here...

Well the main reason for this thread really is anyone who is having problems with Vista, I might be able to help. Since I had to fix quite alot of problems after I installed it before getting it to work, on my own, I'll be happy to give people some pointers and solutions, within my experience.

Well, I'll be here when you need me!

I have two friends who have it. One who bought a new computer with it pre-installed, and another who bought it to put on an XP computer.

Both dislike it, and I've been on it and I can't say I do either. It's odd, and they seem to have changed so much for no apparent reason.

Also, the friend who put it on an XP computer now can't use his AOL internet or MSN Messenger.

Weird.

I'ma stick with XP.

That is odd, lots of people just seem to have obscure problems like that, mostly with the appearence and performance etc...

If your friend upgraded to Vista, as opposed to doing a clean install, he might need to download the latest version of MSN Messenger, or uninstall it and then reinstall it.

I think if you're unsure about "upgrading" to Vista, yeah its a good idea to stick to what you have.

My mom has it on her laptop, and it's fine, accept it's hard to get around. I like the sidebar, though :)

I'm sticking with XP for the time being, as I use some accounting software which won't work with Vista, and the person who wrote it for a project doesn't want to have to re-write the program to run on Vista.

People are idiots if they upgrade before the first service pack gets released.

If you must know I upgraded to Vista because my XP system was being overun by viruses I couldn't get rid of. I use graphics packages such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro, which are compatable with Vista, and everything works fine, so Vista was really one of the solutions for me. I understand that programs are not yet compatible with Vista, and there are still some security issues, however it doesn't make me an 'idiot' that I upgrade before the service pack, if I know which steps to take to protect my computer. I wouldn't have upgraded if I knew it was going to kill the system. I've done my research, thanks.

I got that quote from a computer magazine.

When I have finished with this computer, I shall be going other to the fruity side

hey

i hav problem in windows vista with games i cant play any game because its need dx9,you know widows vista working with dx10 and my vga supported to dx10 so any solution.............

Tried it out on a new laptop. It's a nightmare as far as i'm concerned.

Hogs too much resources. Not enough compatibility yet and I HATE the UAC asking me to confirm if i want to open a new window or if i ment to click the left mouse button.

My dad bought a laptop a couple of months ago and it came with an upgrade to Vista. Well, when he finally got Vista and installed it, he totally hated it and so do I. There's tons of programs that we have that just didn't work with Vista, the annoying pop ups that would come up to ask permission for just about anything and the fact that a couple of nights ago I was adding songs to iTunes for my dad on that laptop and it would just start with "iTunes has stopped working...". Ugh. I hate Vista. It's just a piece of crap and a very cheap rip off of Mac OS X.

Have you tried installing / reinstalling DX9?

Download here:

Not sure if it would work since i don't have a dx10 card, but probably worth a shot.

It is fairly annoying, there is a way to turn it off (but it means you are at a higher risk of infection):

So are u still using Vista, or have u decided to go back to XP? I've heard of this iTunes problem before, but i think it was fixed through an update microsoft released a few months back . Again you can turn off the UAC popups if u want, see the link above.

Either way, sounds like u desperately need to get a mac :P

Ive got it pre-installed in new pc and it was fucking shite!

Next day I re-installed the operating system back to XP

I'm curious to find out what happened that made you uninstall it after only one day , and being pre-installed, you're bound to get alot of uneeded software anyway, which is always a pain.

Hogs too much resources.

The same happens to me, I'm afraid you'll have to input the names and artists of the tracks yourself for the mean time. Sorry :(

I'll have a look around for a solution though, see if I can get back to you on that ;)

Cheers for that... it has been a real inconvience as I cant see what track is what for my MP3 player and all sorts of things

I have added u as a friend on myspace :)
