Posh and Becks: We lock the doors at night and wander around naked

David and Victoria Beckham have revealed that they "like to lock the doors at night and wander around naked" in an intimate interview with America's risque W magazine.

The couple also posed for an extraordinary set of sexually charged photographs, giving US audiences their first taste of what to expect ahead of their fanfare move to Los Angeles.

"I think people are really going to see me for the first time. I think they have this impression that I'm the miserable cow who doesn't smile," Victoria says.

"But I'm actually quite the opposite. I'm going to try and smile more for America."

Their move to LA also coincides with the newly redesigned Los Angeles Galaxy team jersey as modelled below by David. It is the first change in the Galaxy uniform in the team's twelve-year history.

In the most explicit of the grainy monochrome photographs, former England captain David is pictured straddling a mattress in a shadowy motel room wearing just his briefs as he strips his wife of her last remaining items of clothing - a basque and suspender belt.

In that frame just their distinctive tattoos across their backs and shoulders betray their credentials.

In another image, David lies face down spread-eagled on the mattress with the bedsheets pulled down to show his backside.

Further images show him striding through a barren rocky terrain in tight-fitting leather jeans.

Victoria, 33, is seen in another photograph hanging her head in a sultry pose with her legs spread provocatively as she wears layered undergarments.

They also pose together engaged in a sensual embrace, stripped to the waste, while for the magazine's cover image, they glare moodily down the lens from the bonnet of a Ford Mustang.

The pictures are taken by famed US photographer Stephen Klein, who recently photographed Madonna is a string of provocative poses for the same edgy magazine.

The accompanying editorial reads: "When the soccer star married the pop singer, it was a match made in British tabloid heaven. Now David and Victoria Beckham are determined to become the new American idols."

The Beckhams are intent on breaking into the American mainstream as while they are iconic figures in this country, on the other side of the Atlantic, they remain virtual unknowns.

On Friday of this week, LA Galaxy will hold a press conference to welcome David to the club - in a deal which could, if reports are to believed, net him as much as £125 million.

US TV viewers will also over the weekend be treated to the couple's fly-on-the-wall documentary about their love to LA.

In the W interview, the couple spoke openly about their marriage, including David's alleged affair with Rebecca Loos.

Victoria said: "I'm not going to lie. It was a really tough time. It was a hard time for our entire families.

"David and I got through it together. No one said marriage was going to be easy. Yes there have been bumps along the road."

"But the fact that is we've come out of everything stronger and happier."

Referring to Loos selling her story to the press, Victoria added: "I realised a lot of people have a price."

W journalist James Reginato observed that the couple became tense at the mention of the Loos drama.

He noted: "When the scandal is raised, Victoria's eyes shoot a look that could turn a man to stone.

"Looking slightly sheepish, David remains silent, but seems to grip Victoria's hand more tightly."

She also discussed their move to a multi-million pound Mediterranean-style villa in Beverly Hills, saying: "We didn't want anything too huge, too fancy, too ostentatious."

However the Mail has learnt that Kelly Hoppen - the designer who is being paid an estimated £750,000 to personally put together the Beckham's new home - has designed an indoor and an outdoor bar by the pool.

While David has ordered a state-of-the-art audio-visual system comprising the world's largest flat-screen TV, measuring 103 inches across, and costing £50,000.

When visitors walk into the living space, the flatscreen displays a picture of David and Victoria but "with a clap of the hands the plasma TV comes on" said a source.

The security technology for the mansion - which neighbours that of their friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes - allows David and Victoria to view the goings on in any room in the house from wherever they are in the would over a secure internet website.

The Beckhams will also employ an army of security guards there - 10 in total - living in a specially constructed "barracks" within the grounds of the house.

Many of the rooms such as the elaborate bathrooms and wetrooms are dripping with golden fixtures and fittings, with the tiling also sparkling with inset gemstones.

Such a design is thought to have caused mild friction between Miss Hoppen - who favours minimalist design - and the Beckhams who prefer rather more ostentatious displays of wealth.

Beckham-mania! Posh and David take the US by storm

Last updated at 16:24pm on 13th July 2007 commentIconSm.gif Comments (36)

The arrival was like royalty - except that no king or queen ever had such a welcome, at least not in Los Angeles. Posh and Becks are of course much, much bigger than royalty.

In an atmosphere of fevered anticipation that went to hysteria and beyond, David and Victoria Beckham set foot on US soil together for the first time early today as they began their new life as America's Mr and Mrs Soccer.

"This is the biggest media operation since 9/11, one airport spokeswoman said, in a remark she may just possibly live to regret.

Media types pushed and shoved behind the barriers, stony-faced security men did their best to keep them at bay, and teenage girls sighed and said it was "awesome".

becksLAXpressPA_468x317.jpgThe media frenzy begins as the Beckhams arrive in an already star-studded town

Oh yes, and did we mention Austin Baker? "Who's David Beckham?" said Austin, an 11-year-old Californian boy who was waiting for his connection. There's always one.

On the plane over from Heathrow, normal celebrity rules applied: just as with some deities, ordinary mortals are not allowed to look at them directly, so with the Beckhams no member of the public was allowed to take pictures or approach them.

becksLAXwavePA_468x694.jpgHappy faces: The couple emerged from the airport holding hands, and David flashed a toothy LA style grin

On the ground it was a different story. The Beckhams walked on earth. People screamed. In particular, Dionne Barnes screamed: loudly, and happily.

"He's beautiful and he's a darling and he's the best soccer player in the world," said Dionne, a Jamaican living in LA who had waited for two and a-half hours to see Beckham. "I like his personality and I like the way he's respectful towards humanity. I just love him."

As the Beckhams made their way past the media scrum - David, 32, in blue jeans and black belted jacket, Victoria, 33, in a black dress and trademark oversized sunglasses - the children (Brooklyn, eight, Romeo, four, and two-year-old Cruz, all dressed in matching red striped shirts, white shorts and trainers) were taken out of the airport separately.

Some fans could barely contain their excitement. A girls' football team - the LA-based Cherif All Stars, who were flying out for a tour of England, stood screaming Beckham's name and clapping their hands.

"I think it's great," said 13-year-old Tiffany Greer. "Beckham is really cool. I can't wait for him to play in LA."

"It was so awesome, he looks better in person than in the magazines," said Priscilla Flores, 15. "I'm really excited to see him play his first game. He'll make soccer more popular here."

Just occasionally someone showed a different perspective. One US TV crew was overheard debating whether to use more than one camera to cover the arrival. "Nah, it's not the President is it?" was the response from a producer.

Cynicism not withstanding, one thing is certain: the American public is about to see a lot more of the Beckhams. David will today be officially unveiled as an LA Galaxy player - the highest-profile signing by a US soccer club since Pele joined the New York Cosmos in 1975.

The former England captain will earn an estimated £130 million in total salary and endorsements over five years.

Victoria, meanwhile, will hit US screens on Monday in a one-hour reality show, Victoria Beckham: Coming To America.

Just before they arrived, the couple's new cars were delivered to their £16 million Beverly-Hills home - a blacked out Cadillac Esplanade for him, a black Bentley GT cabriolet for her, with the letters VB etched into the alloy wheels and stitched into the headrests.

Flash motors by most people's standards, but as one neighbour pointed out, "it's really not that unusual to see cars like that around here."

Beckham discovers America - but will America discover him?

by ALISON BOSHOFF - More by this author » Last updated at 21:11pm on 13th July 2007 commentIconSm.gif Comments (3)

Amid fireworks and ticker-tape, David Beckham was last night given his first taste of life as an all-American soccer star.

He was welcomed to the LA Galaxy football club in a bizarre ceremony at the team's ground in Carson, California.

The former England captain was forced to make an uncomfortable speech to the crowd of fans and media in which he said: "For me, the most important thing in my life is my family. The second most important is the football."

Correcting himself he said: "Oh, the soccer. I'll get used to that, sorry."

As always with Brand Beckham, the event was as much about business as sport. Behind him on a screen, beside the names of the team's owners and sponsors, was the logo of 19 - Posh and Becks's management company.

VictoriabeckhamR_228x596.jpgVictoria, in a clinging pink dress, makes her way across the stadium

Its owner Simon Fuller received thanks for his involvement from all and sundry.

Among the crowd was Victoria Beckham, dressed all in pink.

Earlier, she and her husband were mobbed by cameramen and screaming fans as they arrived at Los Angeles airport. Becks gave a beaming smile. It looked as if Posh might almost manage a grin too, but the moment passed.

When the screams died down the pair, flanked by security men, were whisked to their £16million new home in Beverly Hills, next door to their friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

After last night's Galaxy press conference, Victoria set about raising her own profile as a guest on Jay Leno's prime-time TV chatshow.

Although the couple's arrival is being presented as a triumphant storming of America's media citadel, however, several unspinnable facts remain.

Firstly, one recent survey found that less than half the U.S. actually knows who David Beckham is, however hard Simon Fuller might seek to push him and for all the trumpeting about his supposed £128million contract.

It is no surprise, then, that there are still plenty of seats left to see him begin his footballing adventure. This week you could have made a block booking of 50 seats to see Galaxy take on Chelsea in a friendly match on the 21st - a snip at $60 each.

Rather ominously, Galaxy's director of communications Justin Pearson refuses to say how many season tickets have been sold.

Given that they are paying his wages of £5million a year, one can't help but feel that Galaxy might have expected a brisker boost to their gate receipts from the Beckham effect.

What's more, he admitted last weekend that he was heartbroken to be sold by Real Madrid and felt that he could have had a further three seasons at the top.

beckham5R_468x751.jpgA beaming Beckham arrives at the Home Depot Centre on a typically sunny LA day

victoriabeckhamAP_468x543.jpgVictoria arrived first to greet fans at LA's Home Depot Centre in California

One friend of the family in England told the Mail: "David was telling his sister Joanne that he hates having again to unsettle the boys (their sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz). He hasn't wanted to move, he's not seen the house and he's even admitted to Victoria that he's looking forward to coming back in a couple of years.

"She went mad when he said it, but he is not as signed up to the new lifestyle as she is. She is the one who wants to make it work."

Some sources this week said Beckham fears he will fail in his stated intention to transform the profile of the game in America - he thinks it is almost impossible.

It is suggested that he has agreed to go for a year or two purely to launch his football academies and make some money.

"This is all about Brand Beckham, and nothing to do with football," said a family friend. "He knows that this is a last chance to make a lot of money, and he's been persuaded to take it."

The friend added that he feels under tremendous strain and was "absolutely dreading" the prospect of public speaking last night.

"He has been rearranging the Coke cans in the fridge and doing a lot of towel folding, which are what he does when he is stressed out."

As for Victoria, she has ditched her previous diet, which was mostly edamame beans and tropical fruit platters, in favour of a lean-protein-only kick.

This has allowed her to whittle her already slender frame still further, but has resulted in an unpleasant breakout of blocked pores on her face, which were obvious at the announcement of the Spice Girls reunion the other day. Victoria was especially dismayed by the sniping which greeted the announcement of the Spice world tour, particularly the unkind words said about her own outfit as her surgically-enhanced breasts all but popped out over the top of her Roberto Cavalli bustier.

The U.S. backlash against Victoria is well under way, led by Joan Rivers, who plainly detests her. She is mocked on numerous websites for the way she looks.

Even worse, the big-circulation supermarket magazines ignore her by and large.

And at a social level, she is finding LA life hard going.

"She was at a party about a month ago and she was horrified to be offered the number of a plastic surgeon for her nose," said a source. "I guess that's just LA for you."

Victoria has been at full stretch since the spring trying to make the new house just so. A nanny has been hired for an astonishing £6,000 a week to take care of Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. Her qualifications are said to include excellent manners and an ability to help with Brooklyn's homework.

Security has been a bit more of a challenge, with Victoria's father Tony, who is on the payroll, helping to put American bodyguards and security services in place. The children have their own security detail, and there is 24-hour cover to make sure that the family compound is secure. It's the kind of operation which made Madonna feel so relieved to move to London.

beckhamstad1AP_468x330.jpgBeckham mania continues to hit LA as thousands of fans wait enthusiastically for a glimpse of the new hero in town

beckhamfanAP_468x313.jpgFans wave a banner combining the film 'Bend it Like Beckham' with Victoria's pet name for her husband 'Golden Balls'

Victoria's mother Jackie will spend several months with them, to help them settle in. David will be kept busy with training and other Galaxy commitments, and Victoria has been worried that she will be lonely.

David's personal manager, Terry Byrne, the godfather of Cruz and Romeo, was with them in Madrid a great deal with his wife Jenny. But although he remains probably the greatest friend of the couple, he won't be moving to LA.

Neither will Becks's sister Joanne. And Victoria's sister Louise is no longer quite part of the close circle since Victoria fell out with her husband. Maybe the couple will find friends among Becks's teammates.

The omens, however, are not entirely positive.

Cobi Jones, up to now a star of the team, spoke in an interview last week about David being "just another player". The irritation was almost palpable.

The Beckhams are, however, planning a low-key getting-to-know-you party so they can reach out to his team mates on a social level. The fact that they are mostly paid 50 times less than he is could prove awkward.

There are other factors which will militate against any quiet settling-in period. Both he and Victoria have their own documentaries to promote, for instance.

And when that is over he will be engaged in an exercise in marketing which has never before been seen in soccer, but which bears all the hallmarks of Simon Fuller's sharp eye for turning a buck.

The Mail understands that he is planning to bring out a range of David Beckham sports clothing and other items in partnership with LA Galaxy. He will also have to do an enormous amount of travelling.

In one week in November he will fly from LA to England for an international, and then go to Sydney for a Galaxy game, before returning to LA. That's more than 20,000 miles in a week.

When the season is winding down, Victoria insists that he will come on the road with the Spice Girls, as she feels it will be his turn to trail in her wake for those 11 dates across the globe. The schedule sounds absurdly tiring.

The five women stand to gross £ 10million apiece from the tour, which will obviously be greatly reduced by costs. But if they find an audience they can expect millions more from record sales. Will anyone, though, want to buy into the hopelessly outdated, and rather fake in any case 'philosophy' of girl power?

At the moment, the plan is that each Spice Girl will travel in her own private jet with her own entourage.

It seems that some gentle tussling has begun over who will be the top dog, with Mel B as ever throwing her weight around and intimidating the others, including Victoria.

There have been ructions also about proposed schedules for tour rehearsals, which Victoria and Mel B would like to take place in Los Angeles.

Emma Bunton, who is due to give birth this month, believes any transatlantic travel would be quite unreasonable for her. Simon Fuller will once again be refereeing a five-way contest. Meanwhile for Becks, there will be a constant pressure to strike commercial deals.

The £128million contract in fact comprises £5 million a year in salary with the assumption that he will be able to raise a further £40 million a year in sponsorship and other business - which is a huge leap of faith given that his current earnings are around £25 million a year and he's just been dumped by Gillette.

Dr Simon Chadwick, of the Birkbeck Sport Business Centre, has just conducted a survey which shows that Beckham is barely recognised in the U.S.

"Ordinary people don't know who he is, and even sports fans struggle," he said.

"For instance I spent the morning with 35 sports students from Memphis and some of them didn't know who he was.

"The top comment was, 'He is married to a Spice Girl'. The next one was, 'He is a skilful footballer'. We also asked questions like, 'Is he patriotic? Is he trustworthy?' People did not have a clue
