Buckland tone on the POD XT Live?

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me get that Jonny's tone on the POD? They do have a model for the RAT but I can't seem to find the right settings that sounds right.

Thanks

im real sorry but your post is stupid... its not an attack on you personally but i REALLY get tired of all these guitar newbies asking how they can get jonny's tone with shit gear... GET REAL STUFF! i dont see why people cant understand. You cant get his tone without using what he uses. that information is hardly a secret. now you might say "but man im poor and i cant afford the real stuff..." ok then, thats your choice. But let me tell you that you get what you pay for and you wont get a good sound out of a POD or anything like it. I just dont see the point of even asking... The fact alone that you even own a POD tells me you know nothing about tone or guitars.

sorry for the flaming guys, im just so sick of it...

Well, I'm not sure if you've ever used a POD before, but I know my stuff and am hardly a newb. You'd be surprised at how good the POD is as they react the same way the pedals/amps it models. Being a huge U2 fan and a long time admirer of The Edge, I know the ins and outs of his rig and his guitars, and spent hours of playing and listening to countless guitars/amps and researching. The Edge himself used a POD on stage during the Vertigo Tour and the DL 4 that everybody loves (and used by Jonny) is only a modeling delay unit if you havn't realized that by now. By telling me that I should get real gear, then by that terms you should own the Deluxe Memory Man and the vintage tape units that the DL4 models. The same modeling technology is used for the POD products for all the effects and amps, that you've come to love in the DL4 unit. I've been disappointed by countless Multi-FX units but I can assure you that POD is quite amazing at making some realistic tones. I, of course, without a DOUBT, realize that you possibly cannot get the real sound without the real gear. And yes, I am poor and yes, I resorted to buying a multi - FX unit, but I always wanted to get all the pedals and the real gear. Who doesn't? This thing really convinced me just by switching on the AC-30 TB model and have it played on my strat. No questions asked, it was worth every penny i paid for, and for only 400 dollars. I can truly tell you this now because I absolutely nailed the sound for "Where the Streets Have no Name." It took me several hours to get it to my exacting standards, but the end result was quite startling.

So before you bash on people, maybe you should go out build some more experience and spend some time and hear what people can do with some good multi-FX (VOX Tone Lab, POD XT) before telling me that I know nothing about tone or guitars. And you possibly cannot criticize people who truly want to play guitar and make music with whatever resources they have, because not everyone is as fortunate financially, because like I said, who WOULDN'T want to own the same gear their heroes play on?

All I wanted from this thread is to hear what settings people were using so that maybe I could save some hours trying to find that tone, all for the love of Coldplay and Jonny, so that I can play some of the beautiful music they make, even as I realize that I cannot get the exact same tone.

Thanks.

Sorry but i have used one and they are cheap. And no theirs no way it acts like a tube amp. If you say it does then your either delusional or you dont own a tube amp.

No duh... when you buy one you have to understand what it is and why jonny and guys like him use them. The DL-4 does not sound like the effects it models. It sounds like a DL-4. Most people arent open to new stuff so they bash multi effects. Also the fact that 75 percent of them are pure shit doesnt help their rep. Me and jonny and everyone else with a brain baught their DL-4 because they liked how it sounded. If you buy one because you hope that it will give you the effects it models your a moron because it wont. It might be similar but in the end its not the same.

This is the same discussion that was had with the guy saying Squiers are just as good as Fenders and such....

But to answer your question just bost the mids and pile on alot of reverb and delays and it should get you to a good starting point.

I think the problem here is from a creativity standpoint as well. You can sound like Jonny, Eddie Van Halen or Clapton ... but those riffs that they came up with was from within themselves. Hard to mimic that.
