September 16, 200718 yr :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: I HATE Algebra 2. And Im taking an honors class. Ok, to the point: I will be REALLY grateful if anyone can help me with these problems. I failed the test and the teacher is letting us do corrections to get a higher grade. 1) x+a +b= a Solve for a b 2) a-c = m Solve for a again. x-a
September 16, 200718 yr 1) x+a --- + b = a | * b b x + a + b² = ab | - a x + b² = ab - a x + b² = a(b - 1) | : (b - 1) x+b² a = --- b-1 2) a-c --- = m | * (x-a) x-a a - c = m(x - a) a - c = mx - ma | + c | + ma a + ma = mx + c a(1 + m) = mx + c | : (1 + m) mx + c a = ------- 1 + m may contain mistakes - that was quick'n'dirty ;)

September 16, 200718 yr 1) may contain mistakes - that was quick'n'dirty ;) That my friend, was AMAZING! you do maths?or just a genius?i may come to you with biochemical problem solving :p
September 16, 200718 yr nah, I'm just a humble engineering-student, who never really had problems with maths :shy: but thanks! :nice:
September 16, 200718 yr hehe, i can do it to an extent...hence my rather rubbish attempt...SO CLOSE THOUGH...or maybe not...you go to uni in germany?
September 16, 200718 yr Author winnie! :freak: I LOVE YOU!!! I LOVE YOU BOTH!!! thank you sooo much. :bigcry:
September 16, 200718 yr hehe, i can do it to an extent...hence my rather rubbish attempt...SO CLOSE THOUGH...or maybe not...you go to uni in germany? ah, well it was a pretty good attempt, your approach was the same as mine ;) yup, I'm in my second uni-year now... @Jen: welcome! I'm always glad to help :nice:
September 16, 200718 yr now, the fact that i'm in 4th year and cant do algebra-good or bad? you could argue that it has been 2or 3 years since i did any algebra (though it doesnt bode well that i'm wanting to do a PhD) :p
September 16, 200718 yr 1) x+a --- + b = a | * b b x + a + b² = ab | - a x + b² = ab - a x + b² = a(b - 1) | : (b - 1) x+b² a = --- b-1 2) a-c --- = m | * (x-a) x-a a - c = m(x - a) a - c = mx - ma | + c | + ma a + ma = mx + c a(1 + m) = mx + c | : (1 + m) mx + c a = ------- 1 + m may contain mistakes - that was quick'n'dirty ;) that's rather scary, isn't it? ;D nah. :nice: i wished i had known you much earlier, dammiiiit! ;D  but i'm a hopeless case when it comes to maths anyway, hehe.
September 16, 200718 yr ahh! i'm happy cause i would have done it how you guys did. awesome. i haven't done maths for 3 years. and i'm only 18. i did my GCSE maths in one year, and then a year of Statistics, which just sucked. ;D
September 16, 200718 yr i wished i had known you much earlier, dammiiiit! ;D  haha, well, it's never too late to get to know the joy of maths :wacky:  and don't be scared - 90% of you will never ever see such shitty algebra again after finishing school ;D
September 16, 200718 yr ohh I just did it :wacky: and had the same result as winnie :wacky: I had math last semester but I didn't finish it :uhoh: I'll have to take math next year.. and I'll need so much help :bigcry:
September 17, 200718 yr Ugh, I hated Algebra II. Blech. I'm in pre-calc right now and so far I'm getting it. But eh... I think I might have to come here for help sooner or later! :laugh3:
September 17, 200718 yr haha, well, it's never too late to get to know the joy of maths :wacky:  LOL erm... :uhoh: :wink3: i dunno ;D
September 17, 200718 yr i suck at math. i'm happy it's all over now (no maths in present curriculum).
September 17, 200718 yr 1) x+a --- + b = a | * b b x + a + b² = ab | - a x + b² = ab - a x + b² = a(b - 1) | : (b - 1) x+b² a = --- b-12) a-c --- = m | * (x-a) x-a a - c = m(x - a) a - c = mx - ma | + c | + ma a + ma = mx + c a(1 + m) = mx + c | : (1 + m) mx + c a = ------- 1 + mmay contain mistakes - that was quick'n'dirty ;) i think you should state clearly the values for the other variables where a is defined. i mean, for the first problem; x+b² a = ------- where x,b € R and b /= 1 (b not equal to 1) b-1 and for the second one; mx + c a = ------- where m,c,x € R and m /= -1 1 + m because otherwise "a" would be undefined and the problem couldnt be solved for "a"..
September 17, 200718 yr I think, that's way too much mathematics for a Coldplay-board ;) but, well, if you mind :P
September 18, 200718 yr What have you got against imaginary numbers? Poor little i only wants to play :P
September 19, 200718 yr You can visit to math.com if you wanna get try to resolve that;) Although I'm not already learn about algebra II yet
September 19, 200718 yr i think the best subjects in maths are algebra and integrations and their inverse thing of which i don't know the name. :smug:
