Underated songs by: U2

Featured Replies

I am going to start a bunch of new threads here over the next couple days about certain bands and what you feel are there most underrated songs.

Maybe say why you feel the song is underrated, post a video if you want...whatever.

First up is U2 since they re-released the Joshua Tree yesterday.

Here is one from each album in my opinion:

Boy - A Day Without Me

October - Stranger In a Strange Land

War - Red Light and Surrender .....two of my favourite U2 songs.

Unforgettable Fire - Indian Summer Sky

Joshua Tree - In God's Country

Rattle and Hum - Van Diemen's Land ......great vocals by the Edge

Achtung Baby - Acrobat ...amazing lyrics

Zooropa - Dirty Day

Pop - the whole album, its criminal

All that you can't leave behind - Peace on Earth and When I Look At The World...i absolutely love these two tracks.

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - Crumbs from your table

,

One of my favourite songs by U2 is "Lemon". It's so underrated, but extremely good. :)

Leeeemonnnnnnnnn.........I love that one too.

I think the second half of The Joshua Tree is underrated because I can imagine people hearing the first 3 songs (all big hits) and then stopping. Aside from In God's Country which you already mentioned, I think One Tree Hill is the next most underrated from that album.

I never really listened to them save for this album and the best of 1990-2000 (I know, I know), but these two songs are the best. Esp. When I Look At The World.

The whole Original Soundtracks 1 album is so under-rated, yet it's their 3rd best album.

If you consider it an album.....;)

Which I don't, but thats another argument we can have at a later time.

I've actually never listened to Passengers.

One Tree Hill is one of my favourites off that album. I guess I didn't include it as underrated just because I think alot of U2 fans really like that song.

But I guess it is underrated in terms of radio play, live play, etc.

I think the people who have underrated most of the songs already mentioned are either "the average listener" or "the average U2 fan".

As for my picks...

"Running To Stand Still" from The Joshua Tree is one of my all-time favorite songs, but I can understand why it doesn't receive much radio play and such. When we had a lyrical project for my Creative Writing class, this is the song I chose to present. "Exit" is fine too, but seems to slip through the filter for most people because of the weird volume dynamic.

I feel like Zooropa is somewhat ignored as a good album; the title track, "Stay (Faraway, So Close!), and The Wanderer are all excellent in my opinion. I also love "An Cat Dubh" from Boy and "Acrobat" from Achtung Baby, but those are fan favorites unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah I think Acrobat is liked by alot of U2 fans...it just doesn't get played live enough. :(

It has never been played live...that's the problem, a soundcheck is not enough, that song is pure beauty

  • Author

it wouldn't be THAT hard for them to do it live.

I meant that for us listening it live only as a soundcheck (the one in Hersey) is not enough ;)

They're probably not satisfied of how it comes out live..I really don't know..that's one of the questions I'll ask if I ever meet them :laugh3:

Good please do. I listened to Achtung Baby again last night. What a phenomonal record. And Acrobat is amazing.

If you consider it an album.....;)

:shocked2:

It's a U2 album in my eyes, even though the record company wanted it released under a different name as it was unusual.

You should listen to it.

Do you have it and could upload it? I've only seen it in record shops around here once, and that store closed down earlier this year. It was really expensive too so I bought other stuff instead.

I know its funny, I own ever CD of theirs, most of their live DVDs, and about 10 singles, have 3 or 4 U2 books, went to a gig, but have never listened to Passengers.

Funny enough, I'm uploading it at the moment for someone.
