Album version vs live version

Featured Replies

yes yes, it's like the song vs song game, same rules just one difference, same song but with the album version and the live verson, and try to give us a link to the video of the live version please

so like I'm watching it, I'll post this

Spies vs Spies live glastonbury 2002

spies (album version)

arobtth (album) VS arobtth (live2003)

Spies Live In Paris (Olympia) 2002/08/27 sounds like glastonbury 2002 vers. but much better than album and the other lives...

I think spies and AROBTTH are both better live, with the intro and the piano outro...

what are your thoughts on daylight?

daylight?? i like any live version of daylight cause i can hear jonny's voice clearer...

  • Author

I like daylight because I watched it live, well on the dvd

in my opinion daylight is arguable coldplay's best live song

daylight live is better than recorded version (i think)... the guitar riff for opening is definitely superb

  • Author

and the lights are good too

yeah and I like pretty much the way chris sings it, with a lot of energy

I think god put a smile upon your face is better live than the recorded version , thue guitar solo at the end is amazing,

i love politik live

  • Author

clocks is easily better live, the laser show is outstanding, but what version do you prefer? the twisted logic tour one or the arushofblood tour one?

urmm... arobtth one

Clocks is better live, lots more energy.

Same can be said for Politik, Daylight, One I Love and definitely Life is for Living

Is it better live?

Don't Panic: AROBTTH tour, yes. all else, no.

Shiver: Close but no, I prefer the album version with the nicely layered guitars.

Spies: Yes, especially around 2003 with the intro and piano outro. brilliant.

Sparks: No, actually a little weak at times, album version is too perfect.

Yellow: close call. not a huge fan of the 2003 version, balloons saved it during the X&Y tour. I'll call it a tie.

Trouble: 2000-2003 was as brilliant live as in the album, I hated what they did with it in X&Y. tie for the early years, no for the X&Y tour.

High Speed: probably a tie as well, although did make some nice changes to the live version.

Everything's not lost: Yes. especially come 2003 and onwards there's some very nice additions, it's more of a singalong anyway.

Politik: definitely yes, pretty self explanatory actually.

IMP: The chorus is meant for a crowd, Chris almost sounds silly singing "yeah!" all by himself in the album version. I say yes.

GPASUYF:Yes.The last night on earth-esque rockout does it for me.

The Scientist:Probably yes, although their isn't a huge difference frankly.

Clocks: Yes, especially with the extended outro. but I still listen to both now and then.

Daylight: the energy, group vocals, lights imitating a sun...yes, yes, yes.

Green eyes: Varies, I think the album version wins most times around.

Warning Sign: Yes. Jonny's electric part is so much more prominent at glastonbury 05 than it was in the album, it makes the song.

AROBTTH:Yes.(See Spies)

Amsterdam:Probably a tie, not a huge difference.

Square one:Probably yes, Chris could match the album vocals if he didn't run around so much (jools holland), but it has redeeming value.

What if: No, pretty weak and out of place much of the time no matter how hard Jonny rocks out at the end.

White shadows: Tie. most of you will prefer the live version which dos have a great guitar outro but I dislike the falsetto chorus. your call.

Fix you: Probably yes, even without the acoustic guitar and piano the crowd makes up for it.

Talk: tie. I dunno ;)

X&Y: I actually think it might be better live, a darkhorse song jonny's intro and some of chris's piano additions make this song a gem live.

SOS: no, it struggles at time and jonny's guitar isn't as effective.

A message: no, I miss the piano and cleanliness of the album not an easy transition to the live show.

Low: close but yes. solid live kind of the X&Y equivalent of one I love.

Swallowed in the sea: yes, the piano makes it. especially at the end.

Til Kingdom come: yeah, great guitar tone of jonny, very heartwarming, not that the album version wasn't.

hoohoo... very brief ideas

pretty good opinins although I may differ in some

I think shivser is better live, the part of I'll always be waiting for you.... it's amazingm, johny rocks! and low I prefer the album version slightly, chris just doesn't sing it right, the problem with live versions is that in some songs coldplay runs and jumps and lies down so it's really hard to reach the high notes.

I agree especially in square one, white shadows and talk. low is a lot better though because he plays guitar at the same time. and the vocals at glastonbury 2005 were actually pretty tight.

yeah in totp and jools holland and other tv shows chris sings pretty well, cause he just stays still

I like all songs live better... because of the emotion het do..

Live is always different.. always other emotions.. that makes it much better than album versions..

Album is always same emotion he played with.

I just love when songs are different than they realy are.

As you can hear in Pour Me.

The studio version is 'dry' cant find much emotion there. But when you listen to the Castles Live version.. it is many, many emotions.. thats why i always love live versions.

COME ON, clocks live version of TL tour is absolutely amazing, the intro and the outro are incredible they give way more energy than the song already has.

  • Author

yes, both light shows are amazing, but I like more chris's voice in tl tour rather the arofbtth one, it's more uh, well it is less, how can i explain? it is better
