RunForTheHills
Based on these UK release dates: Parachutes (July 10 2000) AROBTTH (August 26 2002) X&Y (June 6 2005) Viva La Vida (June 16 2008) The length of time between each release is as follows. Parachutes ---> AROBTTH - 777 days / 25.5 months AROBTTH ------> X&Y - 1015 days / 33 months X&Y -------------> Viva La Vida - 1106 days / 36 months Set out as shown above, Coldplay have taken progressively more time to release each album since the year 2000. The time taken for Viva La Vida to be released is 10 days shy of 3 whole years. They have maintained the tradition of releasing albums in the summer months over all four releases. Will these trends continue? Will it take the band more than 36 months to release their 5th studio album? Will they continue to release their albums during the summer in the future? Vote on the above Poll (multiple choice), and discuss.
ApproximatelyInfinite
semy! don't make me pessimistic on such a great day! :laugh1: if we have to wait longer for LP5 than we did for viva la vida (hahahaha, LP5! OMG!!), i don't think i'll have any hair left. i will have torn it all out. of course, this is probably going to be the case. i should buy a wig now, methinks. EDIT: i've just seen how optimistic you are in your own voting! wow, if i was that positive...:P

RunForTheHills
^^Haha, well its not intended to be pessimistic, but it did seem fitting to create this sort of discussion now we know the release date or LP4. I voted for "it will take less time in the future" because I can't see them touring a long for this album. And recording sessions this time around seemed to go better than with X&Y, so I can only hope they can continue this way of working.
ApproximatelyInfinite
^recording sessions seemed to be more productive and positive, yes, but almost TOO productive! all the re-records and new songs seemed to set them back a TON. you can't see them touring long? why not? i'm just wondering, because i think this will be sort of like X&Y in the sense that they'll promote it a lot like they did with that one. BTW, you know it says you're "offline"? strange...
Starlight
I think now the more music they come out with, the more pressure there is to do good and produce perfection. I don't think the next album will take four years, but they certainly won't rush it.
Space Cadet
I think it will always be long until the day Chris learns to chill out and still write well. Though it might help them in the future if they were less neurotic about it. I remember in Brian Eno's interview for Wired he seemed kind of stunned that it was taking so long and so painstaking for them.
ApproximatelyInfinite
they were so nervous for this one that they resorted to HYPNOSIS. chris just needs to chill the fuck out! i love him, but he's got to realize that he DOES have fans, loyal ones! that's not to say they can put out shit, but still. he stresses too much, it seems. then again, perhaps i should hold my tongue until i here VLV. (haha, new acronym like AROBTTH or GPASUYF or IMP!! VLV sounds almost dirty, though! :laugh4:)
RunForTheHills
^^^^ True, and maybe they can refine that recording process next time around, so there are less set backs. but from what I can gather, this 'self imposed deadline' seems to have worked ;) Yeah I'm expecting a lot of promotion, but not a tour lasting as long as X&Y. I'm sorta baing it on a hunch I suppose, but I got the impression that the South American Tour in 2007 was a late decision by the band, and that probably set back recording for a few months. So if they have it all planned out already (the tour i mean) then maybe it wont be as long a wait as last time.
ApproximatelyInfinite
true, true. i guess i didnt think about how freaking LONG they toured. when you said tour, i took it to mean "promotion," i guess. but yeah...touring two years after an album release is a bit much. i don't think they will do that again. it seemed the second leg of the tour (in USA only, i think?) was a bit of an afterthought as well. i saw them in august 05 on the "twisted logic" tour, then freaked out in happiness when i saw they were doing the "talk" tour in spring 06 and saw them again. and then they went to SA! RunForTheHills
^^^Wow, thats lucky that you got to see them twice! I'm afraid that if I don't get a ticket to see them before they go abroad, I won't be able to see them on this particular tour at all! That would be horrible. It would be my first coldplay gig, my first gig ever actually. PS: bed time for me. See you all soon hopefully.

Tnspieler1012
As much of a fan I am, I've never been to a concert. Heck I only discovered them in summer of 2005. My brother went to one in California and said that I should one day. I live in knoxville, but when they come to Atlanta or Nashville we'll try to schedule a road trip. See you all soon hopefully. ditto. i hope they come to CT and NYC before i go back to uni in mid august. i don't want to have to train/drive to philly to see them during the school year, especially when i'm so familiar with the CT and NYC venues...and i don't think there's much to worry about, but they BETTER hit around here before september 2009, because i'll be in england, which they probably will have already toured! i'm going to bend over backwards to see them, though, with AMAZING seats. never been to a gig?! wow, you're in for a treat if your first is coldplay! the first concert i went to where i legit liked and knew the artist was coldplay's, and i still cite it as the best concert i've ever been to. the amazing seats also probably helped. i still maintain that chris sweated on me a bit :D
BigFatNoises
i think it took coldplay so long because they became more popular the past couple of years:dozey:
